WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club members are preparing to take part in this Saturday’s Cheshire Cross-country Championships.

The purple-and-gold vested outfit will be represented by more than 50 members at the Covid-19 secure course at Betley Court Farm, near Crewe.

The race timetable is: 10:45am: Under 11s (2km); 11:15am: Under 13s (2.5km); 11:45am: Under 15s (3.2km); 12:20pm: Under 17s (5km); 1:20pm: U20s/Seniors/Veteran Women (6.4km); 2:20pm: U20s/Seniors/Veteran Men (6.4km).

Chip timing will be used and the races will be time trials. There will be no manual timekeeping or number recording. Race information will be announced over a PA system and competitors will be called prior to each race.
The start area will be marked out so that athletes can line up in rows of five, each row two metres apart to maintain social distancing.

Races will be started in waves of 25 runners. After each wave has started, the subsequent waves will walk forward five rows and start approximately 15-30 seconds after the previous wave.

In the senior races the athletes will be seeded with the fastest runners starting first. Athletes’ bibs will be colour-coded to indicate which wave they are in.

Junior races are won’t be seeded but faster runners will be encouraged to line up at the front to minimise overtaking. In each age group, boys will start first.

CLUB TRAINING HAS RETURNED

Club training at EPSV has restarted, and training groups are now also permitted to meet off-site to help everyone get back into a routine.

The club has resumed track training in small Covid secure groups and we are operating over threeevenings (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and Saturday morning.

Athletes wanting to attend training sessions need to book through their coach. Hopefully after three months (end of June), if the situation continues to improve, we can then revert to larger groups.

Please also be aware that there will be some disruption and restrictions to the planned Track & Field meetings.

The first two YDL meetings for u13s and u15s have already been cancelled, and the Club Track and Field Trials will be held on Saturday, 24th April (10am-12 noon), and Thursday, 29th April (6-8pm).

Group track training MUST only start by implementing the same strict club rules and guidelines that were in place when we last trained. There must be NO deviations from this if we are to stay COVID safe and to avoid criticism from the public.

You must only come to training if your health allows. If for any reason you have been in contact with somebody who has tested positive for Covid-19 then you MUST NOT come to training for 10 days. Always report any problems to your coach/leader, so that others can be alerted.

Please continue to act safely and make sure you have paid your annual club membership fee, and be aware of the new Cashless system being implemented for EPSV Track Training Sessions (further details below).

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT…

Since our return to training, there has been a change to the way in which club members are asked to pay for attending training sessions at Ellesmere Port Sports Village. Rather than paying by cash, members will be asked to top up their accounts online, via a link to our club membership system.

As members attend each session, their accounts will be debited by the cost of each session.
You should have received an email in December 2020 titled “West Cheshire AC Membership. Please do not ignore!”, from club Membership Secretary Jane Pughe. This email contains a link to the top-up system. From there, you will be able to top-up by between Β£10 and Β£100, and set both regular top-up amounts and warnings to prompt you when your account is low.

The cashless payment system is provided by Nifty Entries, who maintain our current online club membership system. They also provide similar cashless training payments systems to other clubs, on the same basis of only paying for the sessions that you attend, from your own account.

Please let us know if you have any questions, by replying Dennis at: [email protected]

The purple and gold vested outfit will help organise the fixture to be held on August 21 and 22 at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

The original planned dates of May 8-9 are no longer suitable and, while athletics competition can still take place in May, significant Covid-19 restrictions are expected to be in place.

These include social distancing measures, rigid hygiene measures, use of PPE and a ban on spectators. Under these circumstances the organisers don’t think it is practical to hold the County Championships in May.
β€œWe appreciate that holding the Championships in the middle of August will not suit everyone,” a post read on the Cheshire County Athletics Association Facebook page.

β€œHowever, the competition calendar is very congested and these are the only available alternative dates.”
β€œWe expect that by August most Covid-19 restrictions will have been lifted and we will be able to hold a β€˜near normal’ competition.”

CLUB TRAINING RETURNS

The final preparations are being made to make sure that everyone stays safe when Club training resumes on Monday, 29th March.

The Club has received confirmation from Brio that track training at EPSV can restart from 29th March and training groups will also be permitted to meet off-site to help everyone get back into a routine.

The Club is resuming track training in small Covid secure groups from Monday 29th March and, as before, we will operate over threeevenings (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and Saturday morning.

You need to book through your coach to attend. Hopefully after 3 months (end of June), if the situation continues to improve so we can then revert to larger groups.

Please also be aware that there will be some disruption and restrictions to the planned Track & Field meetings. The first two YDL meetings for u13s and u15s have already been cancelled, and it is very likely that the County Track & Field Championships will be held in August, but this needs to be confirmed.

Group track training MUST only restart by implementing the same strict club rules and guidelines that were in place when we last trained.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

From January 1st 2021, there will be a change to the way in which club members are asked to pay for attending training sessions at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

ITEMS NEEDED FOR CHARITY AUCTION FOR CLUB FUNDS

Club coach, Paul Fairweather, and his wife Karen, are planning to organise a charity auction in the next 3-6 months to help raise money for Club funds.

They can host the auction and provide access to a worldwide market of buyers of vinyl and music memorabilia in addition to Sports, TV and Film memorabilia.

In May 2020 Paul and Karen raised Β£179k for the NHS & Feeding America through a charity auction of items donated by musicians associated with Island Records. There were some amazing lots that were donated and it shows the potential with the right sort of push.

In the North West we obviously have a good pool of musicians, big sporting clubs, and sports/TV stars that people may know who could donate something.

You should by now have received an email from West Cheshire AC, containing a link to the top-up system. From there, you will be able to top-up by between Β£10 and Β£100, and set both regular top-up amounts and warnings to prompt you when your account is low.

The cashless payment system will be provided by Nifty Entries, who maintain our current online club membership system. They also provide similar cashless training payments systems to other clubs, on the same basis of only paying for the sessions that you attend, from your own account.

If you can help or would like to get involved please email Dennis at: [email protected]

More information can be found at Paul and Karen’s website.
