Press Report: Track Champs Are On

WEST CHESHIRE ATHLETIC CLUB will host this year’s Cheshire Track and Field Championships.

The purple and gold vested outfit will help organise the fixture to be held on August 21 and 22 at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

The original planned dates of May 8-9 are no longer suitable and, while athletics competition can still take place in May, significant Covid-19 restrictions are expected to be in place.

These include social distancing measures, rigid hygiene measures, use of PPE and a ban on spectators. Under these circumstances the organisers don’t think it is practical to hold the County Championships in May.
“We appreciate that holding the Championships in the middle of August will not suit everyone,” a post read on the Cheshire County Athletics Association Facebook page.

“However, the competition calendar is very congested and these are the only available alternative dates.”
“We expect that by August most Covid-19 restrictions will have been lifted and we will be able to hold a ‘near normal’ competition.”
