ENGLAND ATHLETICS RESPONSE TO GOVERNMENT’S ROADMAP

England Athletics have outlined in an ‘athletics and running roadmap’ infographic what everything means at each stage. More detailed guidance will be provided they have received further information from Sport England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Please note, all these dates are subject to the UK Government’s four-step roadmap to ease restrictions across England and the conditions which must be met before the country is able to move from one step to the next. More details here.

STAY SAFE AND FOLLOW THE LOCKDOWN GUIDELINES

All West Cheshire AC members should be following National Lockdown Guidelines and only exercising within the restrictions, so please abide by the rules and don’t bring the Club into disrepute.

Following the UK Government’s new national COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and the publication of bespoke instructions from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), England Athletics revised the current guidance for athletics and running on January 8th.

PLEASE also remember that Brio Leisure who operate Ellesmere Port Sports Village have closed the facilities until further notice. The EPSV Facility Manager has told the Club not to train at the site, so all scheduled training sessions have been cancelled and the EPSV site remains closed.

We hope you and your family all stay safe and well during this difficult period. Once we know when we can use the athletics track again, we will be back in touch with the new arrangements.

Press Report: Cash Rolls in to Charity Thanks to Wheelers

LEANNE WHEELER has raised more than £1,000 for Maggie’s Centres.

Leanne ran and jogged 50 miles in four weeks supported by her husband Nick, and daughters Harriet and Eleanor who are both West Cheshire Athletic Club members.

“Fifty Miles – it wasn’t fast or pretty and I’m definitely built for comfort, not speed,” Leanne said.

“But I ran and jogged 50 miles in four weeks. It’s been a challenge but I’ve enjoyed it and I’m so pleased to have raised funds for Maggie’s Centres who continue to support cancer patients and their families during the pandemic. Thank you to all my friends for the generous sponsorship.”

Leanne completed the 50 miles challenge alongside Nick, Harriet and Leanne, pounding the pavements mainly in the dark.

Maggie’s Centres offer the best possible support for free to anyone with cancer and anyone can visit a centre or join the online community. They help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, by helping to provide professional support for anything from treatment, side effects, to money worries.

THIS year’s English Schools Track & Field Championships has been extended to three days.

The fixture is scheduled to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 9, 10, and 11, at Sport City, Manchester.

The plan is to hold the Senior (U19s) Championships on Friday, July 9, the Intermediates (U17s) on Saturday, July 10, and the Juniors (U15s) on Sunday, July 11.

Each day of competition will start at 12.30pm and be finished by 6pm.

Press Report: Ready for Restart

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club is preparing to hit the ground running when lockdown restrictions are lifted.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based organisation will be ready to re-start whenever the Government decides to lift the current restrictions on outdoor amateur sport.

West Cheshire AC worked hard before lockdown to ensure training could take place within a Covid-19 secure environment at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track.

And club members are eager for a return of training and competition whenever a decision is made.

Club officials are busy putting provisional plans in place to embrace the local community and promote West Cheshire AC before the track and field season is allowed to start.

Life has been difficult for everyone during the last 12 months and lockdown has affected physical and mental health during the pandemic.

But West Cheshire AC want to help the local community return to sport because of it’s importance to physical, social and mental well being.

The Club is keen to organise a walking and running social group, a social event to help everyone re-engage, a Come and Try Athletics Day, a Summer Fete, as well as an Open Track and Field Meeting.

Press Report: Relays Off

WEST CHESHIRE ATHLETIC CLUB’S hopes of competing in two high profile fixtures have been ruled out because of Covid-19.

Northern Athletics has postponed the Spring Road Relays which were scheduled to be held next month, and the Welsh Castles Relay have been cancelled.

Northern Athletics said: “Following a meeting of our Board to review future competition we have reluctantly had to decide to postpone the Spring Road Relays in Redcar at the end of March. This is due in part to the situation nationally, but also because the local authority has indicated they are unable to sanction an event which would involve bringing many visitors into their area.

“We will continue to review other possibilities over the coming weeks.

“The provisional date for the Autumn Road Relays is September 18/19. It is however unlikely that we will be able to use our usual venue due to the ongoing Covid-19 testing/vaccination centre utilising part of the course at Sport City.”

News of the Welsh Castles Relay Race was announced on social media: “After much deliberation we feel we have no option but to cancel this year’s Welsh Castles Relay.”With things not looking like opening up much in the near future we cannot see how the event can go ahead. We hope you understand our decision.
“We are provisionally lining up WCR 2022 to be held on the weekend of June 11 and 12, but will keep you posted!”

WCAC Newsletter #311, 04-02-21

PLEASE HELP TO STAY IN TOUCH

During this lockdown period when all competitions are suspended, I will do my upmost in keeping the Club Newsletter information and other content going.

I would welcome any contributions from yourselves, any impending marriages, or additions to the family, any running or competing incidents, also anything to help everyone stay entertained. Currently the response has been excellent, but if you have anything that could make it into next week’s Newsletter – please email me at: [email protected]

You should by now have received an email from West Cheshire AC, containing a link to the top-up system. From there, you will be able to top-up by between £10 and £100, and set both regular top-up amounts and warnings to prompt you when your account is low.

The cashless payment system will be provided by Nifty Entries, who maintain our current online club membership system. They also provide similar cashless training payments systems to other clubs, on the same basis of only paying for the sessions that you attend, from your own account.
