Press Report: WCAC Honoured for Community Work

WEST CHESHIRE AC has completed a hat-trick of North West England Regional Athletics Club of the Year titles.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based outfit has been recognised for its work throughout the year as a voluntary community organisation for a third successive year.

Club official, Dennis Wall, will receive the award on behalf of the purple-vested outfit at a ceremony scheduled to be held at Leigh Sports Village, on Monday, September 17.

“I felt very proud, honoured, and thrilled when I was informed that the club had won the regional award for a third successive year,” Wall said.

“Many dedicated athletes, parents, coaches and officials are responsible for the ongoing success at the club because they spend many voluntary hours to ensure everything clicks into place.

“We have 500 enthusiastic members aged from eight to 80 who enjoy running, jumping and throwing, and I always get a buzz from the atmosphere that creates.

“There is something for everyone to enjoy in athletics, from track and field, road running, cross country, and indoor competitions, and it’s been brilliant to see the club going from strength to strength since it was formed in 1998.

“I have been delighted to see West Cheshire AC rewarded for its continued hard work and justify itself as a well respected organisation within local schools, sports partnerships, and within the athletics community.

“But we now need to build on our success by developing a trackside facility at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village site and by encouraging more volunteers to train, compete, coach and officiate.”

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village outfit, managed by Jenny Manning and Dave McKay, will compete in the region’s top flight for a fourth consecutive campaign after a battling display from a 28-strong squad during the final round at Preston.

SATURDAY MORNING TRAINING CANCELLED
Due to holidays and competition commitments this Saturday morning’s club training session at the EPSV Track has been cancelled.

Club training will resume as normal on Tuesday, August 7 (6.30-8pm).

THIS WEEKEND
Preston (PR2 1SG) is the destination this Saturday for our final Northern Track and Field League Division One match of the season. A coach has been booked and will leave Ellesmere Port Sports Village at 9.15am.

Please come along and support YOUR club.

For those who are driving it has been suggested the best route is to by-pass Preston on the M55.
We have been told the track is open with no stand so bring what you need for the day.

PLEASE HELP!
Volunteers are needed to ensure this year’s Guilden Sutton Six Road Race, being organised by West Cheshire AC, proves a big success on Sunday, 16th September, (11am start).

If you are available to help out please contact Dennis by email at: dennis.wall1@ntlworld.com

And if you are a club member who has entered the race or is planning to run the race then please ask someone to help out on your behalf. The 10k is followed by a one mile fun run which can be entered on the day.

Please try to help out because money made from the event will be invested back into the club to subsidise transport costs and competition fees.

MANY THANKS
The Club conveys its thanks to Vikki Brett and Joanne Lark who have kindly agreed to look after the sale of club kit at the EPSV Track Office AFTER Tuesday night training sessions.

If any member requires a Vest (priced £17), Crop Top (priced £17), or a Hoodie (priced £12), they can purchase these items on a Tuesday night. Payment can be made by cash or by cheque (made payable to West Cheshire AC).

SIGN UP TO BECOME A CLUB OFFICIAL
Parents and helpers at the club wanting to provide back-up to our graded officials are being asked to support an officials course being hosted at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday, November 18.

Anyone wanting to be a field judge, track judge, timekeeper, or starter should contact Dennis Wall either at track training sessions or by email at: dennis.wall1@ntlworld.com

The club needs to strengthen it’s experienced unpaid volunteers and plan for the future if we want to remain in leagues and competitions.

ROAD RELAYS REMINDER
Two dates for your diaries are the Cheshire and North West Road Relay Championships at Delamere on Saturday, September 8, and the Northern Athletics Road Relay Championships at SportCity, Manchester, on Sunday, September 23.

Ellie Robinson has kindly agreed to do all club entries and help sort out the teams, and the club will pay the entry fees.

Please look out for the email that has been sent to all club members and let Ellie know if they want to take part in both or either of the events.

Please help Ellie by representing the club and supporting the two events.

PHYSIO SUPPORT
Club member Heather McLintock is a qualified physiotherapist and offers substantial discounted prices for West Cheshire AC members on production of their membership card. Heather can be contacted on 01244 381350 or 07885 462487.
