Press Report: Training back on track

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club has received permission to restart training later this month.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based organisation has been told by site operators, Brio Leisure, that the club can run, jump and throw from Monday, March 29.

This news has been received with excitement by members of the purple and gold-vested club who are now looking forward to a summer of track and field action.

The club worked hard before lockdown to ensure training could take place within a Covid-19 secure environment at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track.

And club members are eager for a return of training and competition now a decision has been made.

Club officials are busy putting provisional plans in place to embrace the local community and promote West Cheshire AC before the track and field season is allowed to start.

Life has been difficult for everyone during the last 12 months and lockdown has affected physical and mental health during the pandemic.

But West Cheshire AC want to help the local community return to sport because of it’s importance to physical, social and mental well being.

The Club is keen to organise a walking and running social group, a social event to help everyone re-engage, a Come and Try Athletics Day, and a Summer Fete.

West Cheshire AC will prepare to compete in the Under 13s and Under 15s Youth Development Track and Field League which is scheduled to start on June 5 at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, as well as the Under 17s and Under 20s Youth Development Track and Field League which kicks off at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on May 30.

The club’s Under 17s, Under 20s and Seniors are focusing their sights on the Northern Track and Field League which begins on May 22 at Blackburn, while the opening round of the Cheshire Track and Field League takes place on May 23.

West Cheshire AC will also host the English Schools Track and Field Cup County Round at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Tuesday, May 18, and the Regional B Final South on June 9.
