Michael and Tom compete at U17 Indoor Combined Events Champs

Micheal Lyness and Tom Booth represented West Cheshire AC in the England Athletics Under 17 Men’s Indoor Combined Events Championships, at Sheffield.Michael finished seventh with 3,452 points, which included a 12m shot put, and Tom, in his first season as an under 17, compiled 2,446 points for 17th position.

North West Sportshall League Finals at Wigan

WEST CHESHIRE AC secured a hat-trick of team titles and a bag full of medals at the North West Sportshall League Finals at Wigan.The club grabbed glory in the under 13 girls, under 13 and Under 15 boys team events, while the under 11 boys team picked up bronze medals, and the under 11 girls and under 15 girls teams both finished fifth.

West Cheshire Award Night Winners

West Cheshire AC members received awards at the club’s annual presentation evening held at Chester Rugby Club.
Welsh International hammer thrower Stephanie Owens, retained the Ladies Cup after a memorable series of performances during the last 12 months.
UK ranked under 20 Decathlete Carl Van Schie claimed the Men’s Cup.
Bryony Potter was awarded the Wrights Cup.

Two Teams Win at Sportshall Final

Two Sportshall teams have capped their indoor league campaigns with convincing victories.
The club’s under 13 boys and girls squads celebrated success at the final round of the North West Sportshall League held at Kingsway Leisure Centre.
Adam Howell, Joseph O’Riordan, Sam Pierre-Louis, Tadgh Gregory, Michael Willis, and Paul Connor-Asteros combined to win the under 13 boys match.
Adam anchored the relay team to glory after winning the vertical jump (52), standing long jump (2.17m), and two lap race (25.4).
Joseph won his two lap (26.4) and six lap (1:41.0), and produced a winning score of 82 in the speed bounce, while Tadgh hit 6.91m for victory in the shot.
The under 13 girls squad of Alice McMahon, Alice Jennings, Jenni Potter, Jenna Sheehy, Laura Rigby, Lydia Perry, Joanne Hope, Olivia Montez-Brown, Emma Johnson, Karry Broster, and Chelsea Butler teamed up for glory.
Alice McMahon won her two-lap (26.1), while Joanne Hope (80) and Emma Johnson (79) won their respective speed bounce competitions.
West Cheshire’s under 11 girls clinched second position, just three points behind eventual winners Sale.

Success at Cheshire Cross Country Champs

WEST CHESHIRE AC have grabbed a fistful of cross country medals.The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club’s trio of Toby Palin, Alex Kirk, and James McMahon secured under 11 boys team gold medals and Shield at the Cheshire County Cross Country Championships, staged at Forest Park, Birchwood, near Warrington.
Toby earned a bronze medal after finishing third overall in the race with a time of seven minutes 23 seconds, just three seconds ahead of Alex (4th), while James McMahon completed the team victory by finishing 10th in 7:43. West Cheshire finished clear of Warrington and Vale Royal who claimed team silver and bronze medals respectively.
Other members of the West Cheshire under 11s squad included Christopher McCartney (12th in 7:55) helping the club by finishing ahead of the other team’s third scorers, and Daniel Vickers (24th in 10:47).
Harry Ellis led West Cheshire AC’s under 17 men to team silver medals.
He finished fifth in the thrilling race with a time of 23:06, and was joined by Alec Beaney (seventh in 23:35), and Louis Humphreys (eighth in 23:44).
Bradley Edwards steered West Cheshire AC to another set of silver awards in the under 15 boys race.
He negotiated the course in seventh position with a time of 16:24, and was backed up by James Ellis (eighth in 16:26), and Danny Meadows (14th in 16:47).
Other under 15 members in action included Chris Goodwin (15th in 16:55), and Michael McCormick (39th in 22:44).
Kate Titlow strode her way to a silver medal in the under 17 ladies race after posting 16 minutes 50 seconds.
She was joined in the race by club colleague Kerry Riley who finished 10th in 19:14.
Tessa McCormick and Bryony Archdeacon returned home with two medals each after impressive performances in the under 13 girls race.
Tessa finished second in the race with a time of 13:52, and Bryony claimed third spot in 14:30, and they both grabbed team bronze medals courtesy of third scoring counter Olivia Montez-Brown who merited 21st place in 17:19.
West Cheshire AC members also climbed onto the podium to receive silver team members in the veteran men’s event, and team bronze awards for their performances in the senior men’s race.
Gary Withers (10th in 41:48), Graham Jenkins (12th in 42:19), Graham Earlam (13th in 42:22), and Russell Kirk (15th in 43:02) earned veteran team medals.
Dave Alexander (10th in 39:15) headed the West Cheshire men’s squad to team bronze medals, alongside Gary Withers (24th), Graham Jenkins (28th), Graham Earlam (29th), Russell Kirk (31st), and Paul Price (56th in 46:25).
Robert Rogers (18th in 14:33) and Tim Bailey (31st in 18:32) represented West Cheshire in the under 13 boys event.

BBC North West Winners

West Cheshire win the Sport England-sponsored BBC North West Community Sport Club of the Year award.

Club chairman Dennis Wall and coaches Ellen Molloy and Jill Gore represented West Cheshire AC at the prestigious awards ceremony held at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel.

The BBC award crowns an outstanding year for the club having already won the Club of the Year prize at the Cheshire and Warrington Sport Partnership awards in October, as well as winning plenty of plaudits at the recent UK Athletics North West awards, including: Club of the Year and awards for its club development, club volunteers, as well as individual awards.
West Cheshire was also runner-up in the categories: Best Junior Club and Best Track and Field Club.

Dennis collected the BBC award on behalf of West Cheshire AC and admitted he was stunned with the announcement, I’m very honoured and proud to receive the prestigious award on West Cheshire AC’s behalf.

More awards for WCAC

In the England Athletics NW Regional awards West Cheshire were the winners of the Best Club- Inclusivity award. In addition two West Cheshire members received awards – Mike Lamb is the NW Volunteer of the Year and Eddie Gore received the Services to Club Development Award.We were also Runners Up in the Best Track & Field Club and Best Junior Club categories. The NW Region selects the best 5 award winners to go forward to the UK Athletics annual awards to be announced on 1st December.

West Cheshire AC win award.

West Cheshire AC have won the Cheshire and Warrington Sport Partnership Sports Club Of The Year Award.
Chairman, Dennis Wall, and club committee members, Eddie and Jill Gore, attended the presentation evening at Cranage Hall, Holmes Chapel.
West Cheshire AC now go forward to the BBC North West Sports Awards event to be held later in the year.
