News Report: Championship medals flow for West Cheshire stars

SISTERS Evie and Freya Whittaker were crowned Northern Champions at Leigh.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club duo produced gold medal-winning high jump performances at the prestigious two-day fixture.

Evie won the under 16 girls title with a leap of 1.63m which equalled her personal best from the week before and followed that up in the 80m hurdles with a time of 12.82 for fifth place in her heat.

Freya completed the family double act with a magnificent personal best of 1.51m and also made the final of the under 14 girls 75m hurdles, clocking 12.94 seconds for seventh spot.

Mia Johnson posted a championship record time of 12.33 seconds for victory in the under 16 girls 100m final and added a silver medal in the 200m with 25.45 seconds.

Dylan Gledhill secured a silver medal in the under 16 boys javelin with a personal best throw of 47.32m, and added 40.24 seconds in the 300m for seventh place in his heat, and was sixth in his 200m heat with a personal best of 25.00 seconds.

Dan Crosby cleared 1.73m to pocket a bronze medal in the under 16 boys high jump, and posted 25.12 seconds for fifth spot in his 200m heat.

Lucas Sawyer clocked a personal best of 4:31.37 for a bronze medal in the under 14 boys 1500m.

Maya Jennings clocked 42.69 seconds for a bronze medal in the under 16 girls 300m final.

And Violet Thorne powered her way to a personal best throw of 31.96m for a bronze medal in the under 16 girls discus.

Reggie Medland was fifth with a new personal best of 43.75 seconds in the under 16 boys 300m hurdles final.

Amber Billington posted 49.93 seconds in the under 16 girls 300m hurdles final.

LUCCA TARDIVEL represented West Cheshire at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff.

Lucca reached the 100m and 200m A finals at the event which incorporated the Under 18 European Trials and pocketed a Welsh bronze 100m medals and Welsh silver 200m medal.

Ella Bibby reached the 200m and 400m finals, while Josh Stirling qualified for the 200m B final, and Jacob Gardner competed in both the 100m (11.11 seconds) and 200m (23.09 seconds) B finals.

Imogen Pughe clocked 59.44 seconds for sixth spot in her senior women’s 400m final after posting 58.35 seconds for third place in her qualifying heat.

Lewis Parsons achieved a new 400m personal best of 50.47 seconds for fourth position in his heat.

SOPHIE MULCASTER has won the European Biathle Championship title in Portugal.

The West Cheshire member represented Great Britain at the event which featured an 800m run, 200m swim and 800m run.

MATTHEW DOUGLASS won the latest Wirral Seaside 5k Race, at Leasowe, in a time of 16.03.

HARRIET WHEELER pocketed a bronze medal at the UK Athletics Championships.

The talented teenager produced another personal best and extended her club record to claim a podium place in the women’s javelin, throwing 51.07 metres under pressure in the last round at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Competing against some of Britain’s top senior athletes, Harriet rose to the occasion with her biggest throw to date, another one surpassing the 50m mark and improving her previous best by exactly one metre.

The result moves her closer still to the GB qualifying standard of 51.50m for this summer’s World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Eugene, USA.

Reflecting on her performance, Harriet said: β€œI’m really pleased to come away with a personal best and a bronze medal. Competing against such a strong field pushed me to produce my best throw, and it’s given me confidence going into the rest of the season.”

Harriet was joined at the prestigious event by West Cheshire team mates Niamh Le’Gall and Joseph Morrison.

Niamh clocked 23.79 seconds in her 200m heat, while Joseph rounded his 800m heat in a time of 1:49:07.

REGGIE MEDLAND posted a winning time of 15.12 seconds in the B under 16 boys 100m hurdles at Stoke on Trent in the Mason Trophy Inter Counties Track and Field Championships.

Reggie competed alongside other West Cheshire members representing their county including Evie Whittaker who cleared a new personal best of 1-63m for second place in the intermediate girls high jump and Evie Smith who cleared 1-54m for victory in the B event.

Freya Whittaker claimed a bronze medal in the junior girls high jump with a new personal best of 1-49m, while Dylan Gledhill hit a new personal best of 48.62m for a bronze medal in the intermediate boys javelin.

Imogen Fives clocked a personal best of 25.54 for fourth spot in her intermediate girls 200m and helped the mixed 4x100m relay team to victory, while Rose Sheppard posted 44.61 for fourth position in the junior girls 300m, and Erin Barnard was fourth with 43.44 in the intermediate girls B 300m.

Amelia Owen hit 9.49m for fourth place in the junior girls shot put, while Kade Harris was fifth with a personal best of 24.90 in the junior boys B 200m, and Jayden Clarke cleared 1-44m for sixth spot in the junior boys high jump.

Dan Crosby cleared 1-69m in the intermediate boys high jump, while Charlie Rice hit 29.06m in the intermediate boys discus, Jayden Walls clocked a new personal best of 24.18 in the junior boys 200m, Beth Manson rounded the intermediate girls 300m in 43.12, and Amber Cogan clocked 28.38 in the junior girls B 200m. 

ARWEN THORNE and Danielle Erskine teamed up for a double success story for West Cheshire in the latest round of the Northern Track and Field League West Premier Division.

The pair hit 39.55m and 24.91m to secure maximum points for their purple and gold-vested outfit at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday.

Arwen then combined with Alba March, Beth Manson and Imogen Pughe, to celebrate a winning time of 51.2 seconds in the women’s 4x100m relay.

Alba won the 100m in 12.3 seconds, while Cosette Wearden won the B 3000m in 11:30.4, Claire Smith won the B high jump with 1-45m, Ruby Billington won the B triple jump with 9.27m, Megan Kettle won the B hammer with 38.10m, and Dave McKay won the B discus with 33.59m.

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club members will line up for Cheshire at this Saturday’s Mason Trophy Inter Counties Track and Field Championships.

Jayden Walls and Kade Harris will team up for their county in the junior boys 200m at Stoke on Trent’s Northwood Stadium, while Reggie Medland will compete in the 100m hurdles, and Jayden Clarke will participate in the high jump.

Freya Whittaker (high jump), Amelia Owen (shot put), Amber Cogan (200m), and Rose Sheppard (300m) will combine in the junior girls age group.

Dan Crosby (high jump), Charlie Rice (discus), and Dylan Gledhill (javelin), will compete in the intermediate boys age category.

And Imogen Fives (200m), Erin Barnard and Eleanor Wheeler (300m), Liliana Boelger (400m hurdles), and Evie Whittaker and Evie Smith (high jump), will team up in the intermediate girls events.

AMELIA OWEN celebrated a new Championship Best Performance on Saturday at the Cheshire Track and Field Championships held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Amelia hit 9.73m for victory in the junior girls shot put, one of several West Cheshire youngsters who delivered podium places at the event.

Imogen Fives, Alba March, Jayden Walls, Freya Whittaker and Evie Whittaker all celebrated victories at their home venue despite the challenging blustery conditions.

Imogen clocked a new intermediate girls 200m personal best of 26.1 seconds, while Alba, who has already achieved English Schools Championship qualifying times in both the Senior Girls 100m and 200m, posted winning times of 12.6 and 25.8 respectively on Saturday.

Jayden won the junior boys 200m in 24.9, ahead of club mate, Kade Harris who was second in 25.9.

Sisters, Freya and Evie, cleared winning heights of 1-48m and 1-55m respectively to win the junior and intermediate girls high jump competitions.

Dan Crosby finished second in the intermediate boys high jump with 1-60m, while Erin Barnard clocked 43.3 for second spot in the intermediate girls 300m.

Jacob Gardner posted 11.8 and 23.4 for second spot in the senior boys 100m and 200m respectively.

Dylan Gledhill hit 38.18m for second position in the intermediate boys javelin, while Abigail Morait finished third in her 100m final with a new personal best of 13.4 seconds.

ELLA BIBBY won the senior girls 200m in a time of 24.6 at Bebington Oval in the Merseyside Schools Championships.

Ella was joined at the fixture by Faith Draisey who clocked 53.5 for second place in the under 16 girls 300m hurdles, and by Josh Stirling who clocked 22.7 for second spot in the senior boys 200m.

HARRIET WHEELER and Mia Johnson grabbed glory at the Welsh Junior Track and Field Championships.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club pair impressed at the weekend fixture held at Deeside Stadium, Connah’s Quay.

Harriet powered her way to a new personal best and club record throw of 50.07m in the under 20 women’s javelin where she competed as a guest and won the event.

Harriet’s gold medal-winning performance edged her closer to the World Championships Great Britain standard of 51.50m.

Mia achieved 24.94 seconds for success in the under 16 girls 200m after winning her heat with a time of 24.67 seconds, and secured a silver medal in the 100m with a time of 12.14 seconds.

Jacob Gardner made it a quartet of medals for his purple and gold-vested club at Deeside by clocking 23.69 seconds for third spot in the under 18 men’s 200m.

WEST CHESHIRE AC pocketed three silver medals and two bronze medals at the Northern Track and Field Championships held at Hull.

Ella Bibby secured two silver medals, clocking 55.70 seconds for second spot in the under 18 women’s 400m final and 25.38 seconds for second position in the 200m final.

Kara Stoll hit 45.37m to register a silver medal performance in the under 20 women’s hammer.

Satine Wearden powered her way to a bronze medal in the under 18 women’s hammer with a new personal best of 48.09m. 

Alba March delivered a bronze medal display of 12.80 seconds in the under 18 women’s 100m final.

Ruby Billington cleared 1-50m for fourth position in the under 18 women’s high jump and achieved a new personal best of 9.71m for sixth position in the triple jump.

Amelie Bodie posted 27.64 seconds for fifth place in the under 20 women’s 200m.

Sidney Shorrock hit 26.99m for sixth spot in the under 18 women’s discus.

Josh Stirling reached his first Northern Championships final, finishing seventh in the 200m with a time of 24.01 seconds.

And Lewis Parsons clocked 51.12 seconds for eighth spot in the senior men’s 400m final.

STEVE FERNYHOUGH (fifth in 25:45) was first home for West Cheshire AC at the first round of the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix held at Shotton.

He was joined at the fixture by Luke Pearson (eighth in 26:38), Jeff Gifford (13th in 28:17), Andrew Clague (21st in 29:33), Mark Davies (28th in 31:06), Neil Field (33rd in 31:48), Sallyann Harper (42nd in 32:51), Claire Williams (59th in 36:06), Tony Kennedy (74th in 39:57), and Mark Povey (82nd in 42:33).

SIX West Cheshire Athletic Club members celebrated age group victories at Wallasey on Sunday.

Bethan Duke, Dave Gough, Sarah Hibbert, Joy Hickman, Brian Wright, and Ian-Paul Flanders grabbed success at the Wirral Running Festival.

Bethan posted 30:17 for first position in her under 16 age category in the 5k race, and Dave Gough clocked 22:23 for top spot in his over-60 men’s age group.

Sarah Hibbert won the over-55 women’s prize after registering 48:53 in the 10k event, while Joy Hickman posted 46:00 for first place in her over-60 age category, and Brian Wright claimed top spot in his over-70 age group with a time of 48:30.

Ian-Paul Flanders completed the list of winners with a time of 1:28:35 to secure first place in his over-45 age group in the half marathon.

MIA JOHNSON starred for West Cheshire AC at Wavertree, Liverpool, on Sunday.

The talented teenage sprinter secured a double success story in the under 16 girls 100m (12.10) and 200m (24.88) during the second round of the Youth Development Track and Field League.

Mia was joined in the winners circle by Dan Crosby who cleared 1-75m in the under 16 boys high jump; Maya Jennings who delivered a time of 41.13 in the under 16 girls 300m; Lucas Sawyer who rounded the under 14 boys 800m in 2:10.99; and by Faith Draisey who clocked 54.42 in the under 16 girls B 300m hurdles.
