LEVEL 1 FIELD OFFICIAL COURSE
For anyone interested, there is a Level 1 Field Official course at Deeside in two parts: i) 18:30 to 20:30 on Monday 22nd May, and ii) 18:30 to 22:00 on Wednesday 24th May.
The club is happy to fund members who want to do officials’ courses and non-competing parents, etc can join the club for free.
Remember that the minimum age for these courses is 16, so athletes should consider doing them if interested. Officiating can get you to competitions that you might not get selected for as an athlete

ASSISTANT CLUB COACH COURSE UPDATE

From February this year the Coaching Assistant qualification changed to become a remote assessment process with the coach completing four on-line modules and was then asked to film some coaching activity at their local club and submit to England Athletics.

There has been a recent update that now means England Athletics are offering the Coaching Assistant course via face-to-face option, so the coach still completes the four on-line modules but then attends a practical day to complete their practical elements, so no filming required.

England Athletics has now launched a face-to-face Coaching Assistant course for the North-West, on 3^rd June at Parrs Wood High School, East Didsbury.

For the coaches who have started the journey via the remote assessment process, Carl Foster (Regional Club Coach Lead for North West England) can now offer an opportunity to be signed off face-to-face by him. This would involve the coaches and himself travelling to a mutually agreeable location. For further details email Carl at: [email protected]

CROSS-COUNTRY UPDATE

The AGM of the North Wales Cross Country League 2023-24 Season was held on Friday 5th May and the following dates and venues were agreed for the 2023/24 season:

Saturday 14th October: Treborth Track, Bangor; Saturday 28th October: Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay; Saturday 25th November: Shrewsbury (TBC); Saturday 20th January: Dolgellau; Saturday 10th February: Marches School, Oswestry.

The North Wales Cross Country Championships will be held at Wrexham on 6th January and the Welsh Inter Regions will be on 18th November at Newtown (subject to confirmation).

Both Junior and Senior Leagues will consist of all 5 fixtures with the best 4 out of 5 results to count for the overall individual titles.

Entries are now open for the annual Tattenhall Tough Team Race being held on the evening of Friday 23 June. The race is for teams of three –

Due to the Council Elections, the Club will be using the EPSV track from 5.30-7pm on Thursday 4th May. Brio are asking that all visitors use the parking bays and do not park by the fence next to the 3g pitch. Brio are open during normal hours on Saturday 6th May (Coronation Day), so training will be taking place as normal between 10am and 12 noon.

OUT OF BOUNDS

Unfortunately, due to faults with the EPSV hammer cage, the throws D area has been cordoned off and that area is now out of bounds until the dangerous situation is addressed and resolved.

The only area in use for javelin training and competition until further notice is the high jump D.

CAN YOU SPARE JUST ONE MORNING THIS YEAR TO HELP YOUR CLUB?

Can you spare a morning to help the club by volunteering as a marshal at the Chester Half Marathon this year on Sunday 21st May?

We need as many volunteers as possible for this event as it results in important support from the race organisers which is used towards equipment and facilities costs etc, helping us to keep subscriptions down.

Volunteers will be allocated to one of three zones which West Cheshire has responsibility for. Detailed arrangements will be confirmed closer to the time but individuals will be asked to help between approximately 08:15 and 12:30.

If you are able to bring friends or family to help too the extra hands would be hugely appreciated. Children are welcome but please let me know if you will have any under 16s with you so that we can allocate to suitable positions.

All volunteer marshals receive a full race goody bag, including technical t-shirt and light refreshments. Please email Ian at: [email protected] and include ‘Chester Half 2023’ in the subject line if you could help.

CHESHIRE TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE ROUND ONE @ EPSV ON SUNDAY 23RD APRIL

The Club is hosting the opening round of the Cheshire Track & Field League at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday 23rd April and needs your support. There are events for all age groups, from under 11s through to veterans and the day starts at 11.45am with a 3,000m race. If you want to compete you need to email Dennis ASAP at: [email protected]

Dennis would also be grateful if anyone is available to help set-up equipment from 9am, officiate/volunteer from 11.45am, and tidy away from 4.30pm.

GET INVOLVED AT YOUR CLUB’S 25th ANNIVERSARY TRACK & FIELD OPEN MEETINGS 

The Club is organising an open track and field meeting at Ellesmere Port Sports Village to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The meeting will be held this Sunday 26th March (middle distance running – including the mile and throws). Please don’t forget to put your clocks forward one hour on Saturday night.

Club members of all ages can enter on the day of the fixture from 9am, so please come along and get involved!!!

VOLUNTEERS are also urgently needed to make the fixture a success. Club members are needed to help set up the equipment from 8am before the fixtures, help take entries from 9am, and tidy away at the end, as well as during the event as field judges, track judges, timekeepers, and help with the results/medals.

Alan Morris and Tim Palmer are also keen to help anyone wanting to learn more about the role of Field Referee and Track Referee.

WIRRAL SEASIDE 5km RACE ENTRIES NOW OPEN

Wirral Seaside Runs is a series of six 5km races, organised by Pensby Runners. The runs are held on the last Wednesday of the month from March to August (first race is on Wednesday 29th March).
