THE third round of the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross-country Race Series attracted 187 finishers on Saturday.
Pupils representing schools from Wirral and West Cheshire took part in the fixture held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village organised by West Cheshire Athletic Club.
Farndon duo Molly Quinton and Zara Evans finished first and second respectively in the year three girls race ahead of third-placed Hettie Skyrme-Walker from Kings.
Upton Heath’s Jack Arnold won the year three boys event ahead of Daniel Morgetroyd (Belgrave) and Alfie Simcock (Farndon) who were second and third.
Annabelle Smith (St Martin’s) won the year four girls race ahead of Ava Holmes (Newton) and third-placed Marie-Ange Robson (Childer Thornton).
Arthur Williams (Tattenhall) finished first in the year four boys event ahead of Acresfield duo Benjamin and Joseph Stenton.
Willaston pair Emma Gauller and Isla Corran were first and second in the year five girls race ahead of third-placed Amelia Snowden (Tattenhall).
Newton’s Ben Brassington won the year five boys event ahead of runner-up Sidney Carr (Acresfield) and third placed Stanley Golding (Upton Heath).
Harriet Beattie (Farndon) won the year six girls event ahead of Anna Birkett-Evans (The Firs) and third-placed Freya Hinkley (Farndon).
Boughton Heath’s Leo Anstey won the year six boys event ahead of Christleton’s Dylan Chandler and Mickey-Jay Sewell (Whitby Heath).
Bishop Heber pair Emilia Pyper and Eleanor Wheeler finished first and second respectively in the year seven girls race ahead of Grace Andrews (Ellesmere Port C of E College).
Thomas Rimmer (Kings) won the year seven boys event ahead of Joshua Evans (Bishop Heber) and Thomas Renondeau (Upton).
Holly Coates (West Kirby) won the year eight girls race ahead of Francesca Eaton (Upton), while Daniel Walker (Tarporley) won the year eight boys race ahead of Christleton pair Joseph Smythe and Noah Woolgar.
The next round of the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series will be held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, on Saturday, November 27.
JODI BEMAND represented West Cheshire AC at the Tatton Park 10k Road Race and finished fourth woman in 41 minutes 35 seconds, ahead of her mum, Debra, who was fifth under 50 woman in 48:09. Both achieved club age group records.

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club duo Jessica Lark and Michael Young celebrated victories at the weekend.
Jessica won the under 15 girls race at the third round of the North Staffs Cross Country League at Park Hall Country Park, Stoke on Trent, where she posted nine minutes 42 seconds, while Michael grabbed glory at the Chester Zoo 10k Road Race in a time of 32 minutes 44 seconds.
Jessica was backed up by club mates Isabella Rimmer (10th in 10:54), Aimee Phillips (11th in 11:00), and Cosette Wearden (12th in 11:09) to ensure West Cheshire AC remain top of the under 15 girls team event with one round remaining on Saturday, December 18, at Betley Court Farm, Crewe.
Thomas Rimmer secured fourth spot in the under 13 boys race at Park Hall with a time of 9:40, while Ruby Phillips posted 9:51 for sixth spot in the under 13 girls event.
Henrietta Duffey clocked 13:36 for 11th position in the under 17 ladies race, and her mum, Alex, rounded the senior ladies event in 34:55, while Paul Morrison posted 28:29 in the men’s race.
Michael Young was supported at the Chester Zoo 10k by Brian Wright (third over-65 man in 46:42), and Sarah Hibbert (59:42).

JAMIE RICHARDSON and Neil Finegan have grabbed glory at Bangor.
The West Cheshire Athletic Club duo starred at a testing Treborth course at Bangor in the second round of the North Wales Cross Country League.
Richardson won the under 17 men’s race in a time of 20 minutes eight seconds, and was backed up by third-placed Henry Robinson in 22:55.
Finegan celebrated success in his over-45 men’s age group after finishing 22nd overall in the men’s race with a time of 32:44, ahead of club mates Fraser Campbell (second under 20 man in 33:10), Dave Alexander (third over-50 man in 34:36), Paul Morrison (fifth under 20 man in 34:58), Andrew Clague (fifth over-50 man in 35:52), and James Robinson (23rd senior man in 36:29).
Jodi Bemand finished second under 17 lady and was 10th overall in the senior women’s race with a time of 25:33.
She was supported by team mates Anest Muller (senior senior lady in 27:57), Ellie Robinson (ninth over-45 lady in 28:02), and Jodi’s mum, Debra (fourth over-50 lady in 31:43).
The next round of the North Wales Cross Country League is on Saturday, November 27, at Mostyn, Flint.
WEST CHESHIRE AC celebrated a double success story at this year’s Chester Marathon.
The quartet of Michael Young (2:27:32), David Shearer (2:52:37), Steve Fernyhough (2:52:45), and Steve Duffy 3:00:23), won the men’s team award.
And the trio of Keely Smith (2:58:29), Fiona Cook (3:10:25), and Jane Barker (4:49:05), won the women’s team prize.
This result followed West Cheshire AC men’s team victory at the Chester Half Marathon earlier this year thanks to the quartet of Michael Young (1:11:23), Neil Finegan (1:17:56), David Shearer (1:18:06), and Steve Fernyhough (1:22:45).

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club ladies celebrated success at the opening round of the Borders Road Running League.
Keely Smith (second in 38 minutes seven seconds), Fiona Cook (third in 38:08), Jodi Bemand (third under 20 lady in 39:36), and Matilda Hughes (fifth under 20 lady in 42:58) combined to earn the purple-vested outfit top spot in the Women’s Division One team event at Delamere Forest’s 9.5km three-lap course.
The quartet were backed up by Claire Harris (26th in 43:52), Clare Mallon (29th in 44:41), Claire Williams (42nd in 46:45), Amy Mills (49th in 47:33), Angela Tegg (54th in 47:58), Debra Bemand (55th in 48:00), and Lisa Davies (72nd in 50:01).
Michael Young headed the West Cheshire AC men’s squad, finishing sixth in 31:35, ahead of Jamie Richardson (second under 20 man in 32:22), Neil Finegan (23rd in 33:43), Graham Wells (39th in 35:05), Steve Fernyhough (45th in 35:25), Steve King (49th in 35:54), Steve Duffy (54th in 36:23), Jon Park (56th in 36:24), Fraser Campbell (sixth under 20 man in 36:46), and Andrew Clague (75th in 37:33).

RUBY PHILLIPS grabbed glory representing West Cheshire AC in the under 13 girls race at the second round of the North Staffs Cross Country League held at Stafford Common.
Jessica Lark (second), Aimee Phillips (seventh), and Cosette Wearden (10th) combined for second team position in the under 15 girls event.
Henrietta Duffey was seventh in the under 17 ladies race, while Paul Morrison was 72nd in the under 20 and senior men’s race, and Alex Duffey finished 118th in the senior and veteran women’s event.
JAMIE RICHARDSON (second in 19:54), Sammy Hollins (fifth in 21:28), and Henry Robinson (15th in 23:15) combined to earn second spot in the under 17 men’s team event at the opening round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League held at Wythenshawe Park.
Luke Parker secured second place with a time of 16:21 in the under 15 boys race, while Noah Woolgar finished 24th in the under 13 boys race, Isabella Rimmer was 49th in the under 15 girls event, Jodi Bemand was 24th in the under 17 ladies race, and Fraser Campbell finished 14th under 20 man and 106th overall in the men’s race.
George Brown clocked 34:07 for 12th spot in the senior men’s race, backed up by Neil Finegan (63rd), Mark Davies (111th), Dave Alexander (114th), Steve Fernyhough (119th), Andrew Clague (142nd), Richard Hayes (147th), Andy Carter (235th), and Julian Tegg (350th), to earn 10th team place.
Claire Harris (71st) headed the women’s charge, supported by Anna Woolgar (84th), Ellie Robinson (94th), Angela Tegg (144th), and Debra Bemand (169th), to earn 14th team position.
