Kelly Baker has powered her way into the spotlight after back to back appearances.The West Cheshire AC youngster smashed her shot put personal best twice at weekend meetings held at Liverpool and Connah’s Quay.She finished second with a put of 8.95m for second place in the under 15 girls event at Liverpool as well as winning the discus (23.69m) and claiming second spot in the hammer (23.37m).And Kelly then scored a hat-trick of personal bests as part of the West Cheshire AC squad at the opening round of the Cheshire Track and Field League, at Connah’s Quay.She bettered her shot put best to 9.17m for victory, as well as clearing a new high jump best of 1-35 for a B string win, and had sprinted to a new 100m best of 14.3 seconds earlier in the day.
Kelly was backed up at Deeside Stadium by Alice Jennings who finished third in the high jump with 1-45m, Laura Rigby who clocked 13.7 seconds in the 100m and cleared 1-20m in the high jump.
Alice McMahon (14.0), Olivia Montez-Brown (14.3), and a new 100m best from Lucy Earl (14.3) was complemented by Olivia’s 1-30m high jump clearance.
Glenys Potter made his season track debut and posted 15.7 seconds in the ladies 100m.
Amy Williams (14.0), Laura Jones (14.9), Gemma Chatterton (15.1), Charlotte Williamson (15.5), Erin McFadden (15.4), Sally Pickering (15.5), Emma Moss (15.7), Tess Corr (16.8), and Sophie Thompson (16.8) represented West Cheshire in the under 13 girls 100m races.
Amy Williams won the discus, and the long jump with 4.22m, while Sally Pickering (3:04.8), Tess Corr (3:06.6), and Emma Moss (3:16.8) completed the 800m.
Liam Renton produced an impressive performance of nine minutes 48.8 seconds in the men’s 3,000m, alongside Rob Tudor in 10:18.3.
Connor Rowbottom was second B in the under 11 boys long jump (3.08m) and added 11.6 (75m) and 2:15.3 (600m).
Cameron Thornley finished secopnd in the soft javelin (10.59) and clocked 13.9 in the 75m and 2:16.8 in his 600m.
Jamie Pearson was second B in the soft javelin (10.93m) and Elijah Montez-Brown was fourth in the long jump (3.45m) and clocked 12.2 (75m) and 2:02.6 (600m).
Olivia Williams won the under 11 girls soft javelin (14.06m) and posted 12.3 (75m) and 2:14.7 (600m), while Sophie Baker won the B soft javelin (11.36m) and posted 12.8 (75m) and 2:19.6 (600m).
Georgia Barlow posted 11.0 in the 75m and added 2:05.5 (600m) and 3.02m in the B long jump for second place.
Rosie Webber clocked 13.0 (75m) and 2:23.4 (600m), while Amy Renton posted 13.1 (75m) and 2:26.0 (600m), and Toni Lammond claimed 12.9 (75m), 2:25.4 (600m), and 3.38m for second place in the long jump.
Mia Rollins covered 75m in 13.7, 600m in 2:32.5, while Molly Sharples clocked 13.2 (75m) and 2:32.9 (600m), and Emily Titlow posted 2:24.1 in her 600m.
Russell Kirk posted 2:13 in his men’s 800m, with Alan Litter won the B high jump (1-55m) and clocked 13.3 in the 100m, and John Manning finished second in the A high jump (1-60m), won the B javelin (30.08m) and clocked 12.9 in his 100m.
Andy Earl teamed up with Alan Littler, Russell Kirk and John Manning to secure second place in the 4x100m relay.
Stephen Jones clocked 24.0 in the under 17 men’s 200m, while Tom Kellett finished second in the under 15 boys discus (18.36m), and third in his 200m (26.5), and Yousef Khalifa hit 18m for second B in the discus, 3.79m in the long jump, and 29.6 in his 200m, and Michael Bailiff scored 4.31m in his long jump.
Alex Kirk clocked 30.2 in the under 13 boys 200m, 2:47.5 in his 800m, and cleared 1-32m in the high jump.
James McMahon hit 6.13m in his shot, and posted 30.0 (200m) and 2:50.4 (800m), while Matthew Pagan posted 30.0 (200m), and debutant Chris Harrop cleared 1-10m in the high jump and posted 30.4 (200m) and 3:01.1 (800m).

Several West Cheshire AC members competed at the Tom O’Mahoney Open Meeting at Wavertree, Liverpool.
Emily Done won her 400m race in 60.10, while Tom Booth clocked 60.6 seconds for fourth spot in the 400m hurdles.
Aidan Stoakley posted 23.8 for second spot in the 200m and 54.5 for second place in his 400m, while Rob Dagnall clocked 23.4 for third place in his 200m and 12.0 for his 100m, and David Donkin posted 57.8 in his 400m.
Danielle Erskine posted 50.4 for second position in the under 17 women’s 300m hurdles, and was third in her 100m (13.7).
Leah Ferrie won her 200m in 26.7 and finished third in her 100m (13.4), while Bryony Potter finished third with 26.4 in her 200m, and third in her 100m in 12.9.
Gemma Hale clocked 13.7 for second place in the under 17 women’s 80m hurdles.
In the Ernie Gallagher Memorial Medal Meeting, Jack Johnson won his soft javelin (22.02m), and clocked 2:19.1 in his 600m.
Emma Johnson claimed 15.23m for second spot in the javelin, and Jenna Sheehy finished fourth with 14.69m, and added 14.4 for second spot in her 100m, ahead of Emma Johnson (14.8) and Lauren Darch (15.0).
Jenni Potter posted 13.4 for second spot in her 75m hurdles, and clocked 14.3 for third place in her 100m.
Alec Beaney and Laura Bestow have secured county medals at Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race.Alec came 2nd in the Cheshire Under 20 junior men’s Championships and finished third in his age group overall after posting 28 minutes 26 seconds for 13th position overall.
Laura secured a silver medal in the Cheshire Women’s Championship, clocking 32:46 for 95th position in the overall race and claiming fourth spot in the women’s race overall.
Dan Harris continued his impressive form by rounding the flat and fast five miles course in a time of 28:50 for 18th position.
Andrew Clague was next home for the purple-vested host club, clocking 30:06 for 36th place.
Jeff Kettle (48th in 30:29) finished just one second ahead of Russell Kirk in 49th position.
Max Woods completed the distance in 32:01 for 80th place, ahead of Alan Bevan, who secured 85th spot in 32:23.
Julian Clarke was West Cheshire’s next man home in 107th place with 33:15, ahead of Mark Gould (156th in 35:01), and club coach, Neil Atkinson (158th in 35:02).
Nic Ogilvie completed the course in 35:34 for 165th position, in front of under 20 junior Alan Littler (174th in 35:50), and over-60 veteran Brian Hastings who posted 35:53 for 177th position.
Christopher Cain secured 184th place in 36:04, ahead of Clive Sykes (207th in 37:14), Eleanor Robinson (209th in 37:33), and Steve Russell-Ingram (216th in 38:06).
Michael Gandy finished 224th in 38:30, ahead of Andrew Thompson (244th in 39:04), and Sacha Kendall-Woods (266th in 40:31).
Jamie Loxam (Stockport Harriers) won the race in 26:23, ahead of runner-up Richard Shearer (Southport Waterloo) in 26:57, and third placed Joshua Dixon (Abergele Harriers) in 27:00.
Nicola Bird (Ellesmere Port RC) won the ladies title in 30:11, ahead of runner-up Liz Whitfield (Spectrum Striders) in 31:00, and third placed Rebecca Harrison (Cheadle RC) in 31:17.
Fifteen West Cheshire AC youngsters sprinted their way to a memorable day at Sport City, Manchester.
A chasing Kelly Holmes continuous relay initiative to break the double Olympic champion’s best time for 1500m was easily achieved by a combined team of under 13 boys and girls from Cheshire.

Lucy Earl, Kelly Baker, Olivia Montez-Brown, Laura Rigby, Yousef Khalifa, Tom Kellett, Alex Kirk, Matthew Pagan, Daniel Vickers, James McMahon, Elijah Montez-Brown, Charlotte Williamson, Sophie Baker, Georgia Barlow, and Gemma Chatterton joined forces with members from Halton and Frodsham to represent a Cheshire North squad.
And the youngsters returned home with individual as well as team awards after experiencing a range of different events including standing long jump, standing triple jump, shot put, tossing the caber, and weight for height, and weight for distance fun competitions.
Four West Cheshire AC distance runners were in action at 13.1 miles road races at the weekend.
Mark Povey was the first of two members to complete the Liverpool Half Marathon, posting one hour 45 minutes 10 seconds for 1,044th position. He was joined at the event by Heather Reynolds who secured 744th place in the women’s event with a time of two hours 15 minutes 40 seconds.
Bob Benson and Mike Perchard represented West Cheshire AC at the popular Wilmslow Half Marathon. Bob completed the course in one hour 31 minutes 56 seconds to finish 351st, and Mike secured a time of 1:34:21 for 437th position.
West Cheshire AC members wanting to experience jumps and throws are invited to attend a taster session at the Cheshire Oaks High School Athletics Arena, this Saturday 4th April(10am until 12 noon), and on Saturday, April 18 (10am-12 noon).
A trio of West Cheshire AC members have steered Cheshire to a podium place.
Alice McMahon, Danielle Erskine, and Alice Jennings were part of the under 15 girls county team who finished runners-up in the UK Sportshall Athletics Championships Final, at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre.
Alice McMahon finished joint 17th in the under 15 girls all-rounder individual competition, sprinting 22.9 seconds in the two lap, hitting 6.89m in the shot, and achieving 56cms in the vertical jump.
Danielle Erskine scored 84 for joint third position in the speed bounce, clocked 24.0 seconds in the two lap, and achieved 2.04m in the standing long jump.
Alice Jennings, who was recently crowned Northern Indoor
Pentathlon champion, completed the trio by securing 51.0 seconds in her four lap, hitting 7.53m in the shot, and she scored 47cms in the vertical jump.
The West Cheshire AC trio of Laura Rigby, Olivia Montez-Brown, and Lucy Earl helped push Cheshire under 13 girls to fourth position in their final.
Laura posted 24.3 seconds for the joint 13th fastest two lap time, and she cleared 1-25m in the high jump.
Olivia delivered 52.4 seconds for seventh place in the four lap, and 6.38m for seventh spot in the standing triple jump.
Lucy completed the West Cheshire AC girl;s contingent with a score of 81 in the speed bounce for seventh position.
Yousef Khalifa and Joel Langmead competed for Cheshire in the under 13 boys UK Final and helped their team finish 11th.
Yousef cleared 1-20m in the high jump, and Joel achieved 6.27m in the standing triple jump.

West Cheshire AC’s men’s squad are winning their battle to beat the drop.The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club hoisted themselves out of the relegation zone in Division One of the Borders Road Running League with a battling display at the penultimate round held at Deeside College, Connah’s Quay.
The men’s squad were staring relegation in the face just two races ago due to a series of depleted teams being fielded in the league campaign since the opening round in October.
But the appointment of road running club secretary, Chris Rhodes, and his assistant, Bob Benson, has breathed new life into the rejuvenated squad, coupled by the appearance of several debutants.
Dave Alexander, fresh from his appearance at Nottingham for Cheshire at the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships, spearheaded West Cheshire’s charge at Deeside.
He headed West Cheshire’s 24-strong squad by completing the 4.5 miles course in 25 minutes 10 seconds to secure 16th position.
Relatively new members Jeff Kettle, Darragh Staunton, Jeff McQueen and Dan Harris all provided important back-up in their club’s strong showing.
Jeff clocked 25:44 for 26th position, while Darragh posted 25:50 for 28th spot, Jeff McQueen finished 31st in 26:02, and Dan secured 34th place in 26:08.
Dependable Andrew Clague was West Cheshire’s sixth counter in 47th position (26:39), and Russell Kirk rounded the course in 26:46 for 52nd position.
Dave Tiernan completed his race in 57th position (26:55), ahead of Gary Withers (fourth over-50 finisher and 63rd overall in 27:09), and final team counting member, Rob Tudor, who produced 27:19 for 68th position.
West Cheshire AC’s other finishers in the men’s race included Bob Benson (fifth over-55 and 85th overall in 28:09), Alan Bevan (98th in 28:49), Max Woods (101st in 28:57), Paul Price (104th in 29:06), Chris Rhodes (116th in 29:48), Clive Donovan (125th in 30:39), Neil Atkinson (126th in 30:40), Nic Ogilvie (152nd in 33:02), Brian Beattie (169th in 34:50), Tony Thackray (178th in 38:24), and Geoff Harvey (182nd in 40:30).
Ruth Hetherington was West Cheshire’s first lady home at Deeside.
The club debutant finished the race in 34:44 for 40th position in the ladies race.
Ruth was joined by Sacha Kendall-Woods who finished 54th (10th over-35 finisher), in 37:11, and debutant Cath Ogilvie (62nd and 11th over-45 finisher), in 41:22.

Alice Jennings has been crowned North of England U15 Girls Indoor Combined Events champion.The multi-talented West Cheshire AC member scored 2,862 points to finish first in the Northern event and seventh overall at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport Arena.
Alice included a new long jump best of 4.22m and new 800m best of two minutes 31 seconds in her pentathlon appearance.
Tom Booth also represented West Cheshire AC in Sheffield and finished 12th in the under 17 men’s heptathlon with 3,447 points.
Tom posted 8.05 seconds in his 60m, 5.45m in his long jump, 8.25m in the shot, 1-62m in the high jump, 9.36 seconds in the 60m hurdles, 2-31m in the pole vault, and 2:56.29 in the 1,000m.
Liam Renton finished first for Cheshire at the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships.The West Cheshire AC teenager completed the undulating under 15 boys course at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park in a time of 16 minutes 20 seconds to secure 64th position.
He completed the event in a field of 304 finishers, and was supported by other Cheshire competitors Luke Kinch (125th in 16:47), Calum Murray (141st in 16:53), Mathew Pontifex (159th in 17:01), West Cheshire’s Chris Goodwin (205th in 17:17), Luke Johnson (217th in 17:21), Andrew Miles (219th in 17:22), and Lewis Healey (240th in 17:34).
The Cheshire under 15 boys team finished in 22nd position.
Dave Alexander was part of the Cheshire senior men’s squad at Nottingham, finishing 255th with a time of 45 minutes 32 seconds.
Darragh Staunton was West Cheshire AC’s first finisher at the Farndon 10k Road Race.
He completed the course in a time of 37:03 for 12th position, one place ahead of Andrew Clague who clocked 37:09 for third place in the over 40 age group.
Alan Bevan posted 40:36 for 41st position, ahead of Max Woods (55th in 42:00), Dave Hough (102nd in 45:13), Charles Thackray (280th in 56:01), Mary Radford (second over-60 and 315th in 58:52), and Mark Povey (347th in 63:16).
West Cheshire AC is celebrating two North West regional team victories.
The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club’s under 15 girls and under 15 boys squads clinched their respective age group titles at the final of the North West Sportshall League, held at Robin Park Sports Centre, Wigan.
Joseph O’Riordan, Stephen Jones, Ryan Jones, and Sam Rimmer, Richard Farley, David Donkin, and Michael Bailiff teamed up to wrap up success for the under 15 boys squad.

James Ellis and Liam Renton earned Cheshire’s Intermediate Boys squad first team place at the Schools’ Inter-Counties Cross Country Races at Castle Park Frodsham.
James finished second and Liam secured sixth position.
Alec Beaney finished ninth in the Senior Boys event in which Cheshire won the team event against Shropshire, Leicestershire, and West Midlands.
