ACTION ROUNDUP

Ethan Milligan represented England North at the Welsh Under 20 International Meeting held in Cardiff and cleared 1-84m for fourth position in the high jump.
RESULTS

Lara Battersby, Imogen Pughe, Stephanie Jones and Fatoumatta Bojang combined to help us keep our place in the North Premier Division One of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League.

The quartet broke the club record for the under 13 girls 4x100m relay after clocking 54.6 seconds in the final round held at Preston. The previous record record had stood since 2010 when the quartet of Georgia Barlow, Charlotte Williamson, Amy and Olivia Williams posted 54.8 seconds.

For a full round-up of results, check out our latest press report.

WE’RE NOT SAFE YET…
We need to pull out all the stops to survive the threat of relegation in Division One of the Northern Track and Field League, after a disappointing sixth-placed performance at Wigan in round three  has left us just four and a half points clear of the relegation places with one round remaining.

It’s now important we make sure all the hard work of being promoted isn’t thrown away when we travel to Rotherham for the final round on Saturday, 5 August, so please support your club and team managers Dave McKay and Jenny Manning if you’re available for selection.

OVERALL POSITIONS (after three rounds): 1 Wigan 15 points; 2 West Cheshire 12.5; 3 City of York 12; 4 Wakefield 9.5; 5 City of Sheffield 8; 6 Preston 6.

ROAD RELAYS INVITE – GET INVOLVED!
The North West Counties Road Relays (incorporating the Cheshire Championships) is this year being held at Blackpool on Saturday 9 September. (For those of you who took part last September, this is the equivalent of the relays held in Delamere Forest).
More information

We can enter as many teams as we like, covering all age groups from under 11s upwards. You must be a fully paid up first claim member, wear your club vest, and be eligible by birth or residence for Cheshire.

Please let Ellie Robinson know ASAP if you want to take part by emailing: ellie.matt@tiscali.co.uk. Deadline for entries is Thursday 31st August.

Andy Carter celebrated a new personal best time of three hours six minutes 22 seconds at the London Marathon.
Carter was the first of six West Cheshire AC members who completed the 26.2 miles course in the capital, ahead of Ian Gloyne-Phillips (3:14:20), and Wullie McGarrell (3:17:08) who also both posted new personal bests.
Keely Smith, who warmed up for the marathon by contributing towards a women’s team victory for West Cheshire AC at the Essar Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race earlier this month, clocked 3:24:41 to better her previous best achieved at the recent Wrexham Marathon, ahead of Luke Ellis with a new personal best of 3:29:12, and Dave Bish (4:55:13).
Congratulations to sprinter Laura Turley clocked yet another personal best of 12.42 seconds in the 100m at Loughborough last weekend.
Well done both!

BORDERS LEAGUE GRAND FINALE
It’s the grand finale of the Borders Road Running League on Wednesday, 26th April, (7.15pm start), hosted by Wrexham AC.
Members will be car sharing from the Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton. If you’re interested, meet at 5.15pm and the last ca will leave at 5.30pm.
It’s also the Presentation evening and there will be plenty of prizes for us, including an almost certain 1st Women’s team, Women’s Improvers team, potentially 1st Men’s Veterans team, and various individual age category wins.  There’s also a free buffet if you stay!
We could do with a good Men’s veteran turnout at this one to try and clinch the Men’s vet team win. Wallasey are creeping up on us fast so we need to nail this one! Team members plus friends and family will get tea or coffee and a cake or biscuit.
You must be 15 or over to race and wear your club vest.

TOM BOOTH’S LATEST NEW ZEALAND ADVENTURE
Our intrepid guy down-under Tom Booth ran the Northburn 50k and after making third spot his own at 31k,  clipped a rock on the descent which led to having a race ending fall! He said: “Really have had no luck with my ultras so far this year!”
He then competed in The Loop The Lake Trail Race, a 25k trail run around Lake Rotoiti in Nelson Lakes where he managed to sneak third place after pulling back second and third at halfway and holding on for dear life through the last 10k, finishing in 1:51.58.
Tom’s next race is the Oparara Wilderness Trail Race.
