Press Report: Nia and Amelia in Top 3

NIA MANSON and Amelia Snowden produced podium places at Rugeley on Saturday. The
West Cheshire Athletic Club pair completed the under 13 girls race at
the final round of the North Staffs Cross Country League.
Nia clocked nine minutes 35 seconds for second spot on the day and second
place overall, while Amelia posted 9:45 for third place on the day and
third spot overall. Abby Gamble represented West Cheshire AC in the under 11 girls race and finished fourth in a time of 7:31 to secure sixth position overall. Niall
Betteridge clocked 10:11 for fourth place in the under 11 boys race to
finish fourth overall in his age group, ahead of Jack Arnold who was
seventh in 10:20 on the day and fifth overall, and Logan Blackburn who
was 12th with 10:53 on the day and 18th overall.

Press Report: It’s Time to go Round the Walls Again

FINAL preparations are being made for the popular Chester Round The Walls Race being held on Boxing Day.

Entries have now closed for the 6.4km race, organised annually by West Cheshire Athletic Club with more than 500 runners expected to line-up for the 10.30am start on the grass close to the White Horse Pub.

The runners will complete approximately 2km within the confines of the Roodee before crossing the racecourse near the main entrance. After turning left onto the footpath adjacent to the hotel car park, the race turns left again on the footpath adjacent to the railway arches and then joins the riverside path.

The route follows the riverside path under Grosvenor Bridge, past the Little Roodee Car Park and towards Castle Drive.
The runners cross Castle Drive at the University building to join the City Walls at Bridgegate for an anti-clockwise circuit before returning to the Racecourse via the steps from Nuns Road. From the bottom of the steps the runners will head through the car park in front of the main stands before turning left to cross the racecourse.

After following the main access road the runners turn left onto the grass to finish close to the White Horse pub.

The Cheshire County Cross Country Championships will be held at Betley Court Farm, near Crewe, on Saturday, January 4, while the Northern Cross Country Championships, will be held at Tatton Park, on Saturday, January 25; and the English National Cross Country Championships, will be held at Parliament Hill, London, on Saturday, February 22. Press Report: Claire Takes Her Chance at Aber

CLAIRE HARRIS headed West Cheshire Athletic Club’s charge at Aberystwyth on Saturday.

Claire clocked 25 minutes 16 seconds for second spot in her over-35 age group and seventh position overall in the women’s race at the latest round of the North Wales Cross Country League.

Claire was backed up by Anest Muller who posted 28:48 for fifth place in her over-40 age group and 26th spot overall, and by Emma Nutt who clocked 29:16 for ninth place in her senior women’s age group and 29th position overall.

The trio ensured West Cheshire AC finished second in the team event on the day and are second overall in Division Two ahead of the next round to be held at the PGL Centre, Baschurch, near Shrewsbury, on Saturday, January 11.

Nia Manson secured third position with a time of 8:23 in the under 13 girls race at Aberystwyth, and Jack Arnold posted 8:52 for seventh position in the under 11 boys race.

WEST CHESHIRE AC re-elected it’s management committee at Friday night’s annual general meeting held in the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Trackside Room. Brian Wright (Chairman), Alan Morris (Vice-Chairman), Sarah Hibbert (Treasurer), and Dennis Wall (Secretary) remain officers of the club, and Mike Lamb is the Club President. 

FIXTURES this weekend include the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Races at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, on Saturday (10am start); the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Woodbank Park, Stockport, on Saturday; the English Schools Cross Country Cup Final at Leeds on Saturday; the Northern Indoor Open Track and Field Meeting, at Sheffield, on Saturday; and the Borders Road Running League at Track Mon, Anglesey, on Sunday (11am start).

Press Report: Top Run From Joe in European Trials

JOSEPH MORRISON was a top-20 hit at Sefton Park on Saturday.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club member clocked four minutes 50 seconds for the 1.5km distance to finish 13th in the European Trial Short Course Senior Men’s race at the British Cross Challenge fixture in Liverpool.

Joseph was joined at the prestigious event by 19 other West Cheshire AC members who battled against the challenging wet and muddy conditions.

Abby Gamble (28th in 8:34) and Heidi Anstey (92nd in 9:30) completed the under 11 girls race contested over a 2km course.

Poppy McKenna (28th in 12:40) and Nia Manson (29th in 12:41) rounded the 3km under 13 girls course.

Cosette Wearden (48th in 18:30) and Nancy Farmer (62nd in 19:25) completed the under 17 women’s 4.4km course.

Niall Betteridge (49th in 8:11), Jack Arnold (57th in 8:19) and Max Molloy (98th in 8:35) rounded the under 11 boys 2km course, while Leon Betteridge rounded the under 13 boys 3km course in 12:20 for 50th position.

Claire Harris completed the 8km Senior Women’s race in a time of 35:53 for 73rd place.

Jodi Bemand achieved 19:11 for 78th position in the under 20 women’s race over 4.4km, while Harriet Beattie rounded the 3km under 15 girls course in 13:25 for 84th position.

Lewis Morris clocked 16:33 for 101st position in the 4.4km under 17 men’s race, backed up by Ben Newall (138th in 17:48) and Noah Woolgar (142nd in 18:22).

Sam Oliver rounded the 4.4km under 20 men’s race in 15:37 for 107th position, and Paul Morrison (191st in 33:53) and Thomas Molloy (279th in 36:50) completed the 8km Senior Men’s race.

SISTERS Evie and Freya Whittaker jumped to success at Saturday’s Deeside Indoor Track and Field Open Competition.

The West Cheshire AC pair impressed at the fixture held at the North Wales Regional Indoor Athletics Centre based at Cambria College, Connah’s Quay.

Evie won the under 15 girls high jump with a clearance of 1-35m, and Freya won the under 13 girls high jump event with a new personal best of 1-30m.

Jacob Gardner clocked a new under 17 men’s 60m personal best time of 7.65 seconds for success.

Sofia Fowler won the under 13 girls 60m in a time of 9.16 seconds, ahead of club mate Poppy McKenna who clocked a new best of 9.59 seconds and won the 60m hurdles in a time of 10.95, ahead of Sofia who posted 11.85.

Lydia Walker clocked a new under 17 women’s 60m personal best of 8.33 seconds.

NATHAN OWEN represented West Cheshire AC at the Northern Athletics Open Track and Field Competition held at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport Arena and clocked two new personal bests in the under 17 men’s 60m (7.69) and 150m (18.20).

LEWIS MORRIS and Neil Hershaw both secured podium places at the Wilmslow Festive 10k Road Race.

Lewis clocked 33:54 for second place in his under 20 men’s age group and Neil posted 37:43 for second place in his over-60 age group.

Press Report: Brassington and Brian Bag Gold

NATHAN BRASSINGTON grabbed a team gold medal in Glasgow at the weekend.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club multi-eventer represented England in the Schools International Indoor Pentathlon Championships at the Emirates Arena.

Nathan clocked 10.14 seconds in the 60m hurdles but then pulled out of the event and watched his team mates Luke Pilcher, Ruben Stovell, and Sam Newton progress to secure team gold against Ireland, Wales and host nation, Scotland.

BRIAN WRIGHT had a day to remember on Sunday at the Preston 10 miles road race which incorporated the Northern Masters 10 miles Championships.

The West Cheshire AC chairman clocked a new personal best time of 76 minutes 10 seconds to win the over-70 men’s age group prize, the Northern Masters MV70 10 miles Championship title, and posted a new club age group record.

WEST CHESHIRE AC duo Claire Harris and Joy Hickman grabbed podium places at Newtown in Saturday’s Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships.

Claire finished second in her over-35 age group with a time of 24 minutes eight seconds, while Joy, who posted 29:23, was a member of the North Wales over-55 women’s team who secured bronze medals.

SEVERAL West Cheshire AC youngsters represented Cheshire Schools in Saturday’s annual Dave Sunderland Cup Inter-Counties Cross Country Match held at Himley Park, Dudley.

And West Cheshire AC trio Poppy McKenna (5th), Amelia Snowden (7th) and Florence Hain (31st) helped Chester King’s School team qualify for the English Schools Cross Country Cup Final to be held at Leeds on December 7 having won the Cheshire round and finished second in the regional round.

A TOTAL of 164 youngsters completed Saturday’s latest round of the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
Nia Manson (Bishop Heber), Sidney Carr (Upton High), Isla Salisbury (Neston High), Atharva Ganesh (Upton High), Saskia Keresturova (Oldfield), Jack Arnold (Upton Heath), Evelyn Edwards (Saighton), Niall Betteridge (Hoole), Evie Hulse (Our Lady of Pity), Myron Rafalskyi (Saughall All Saints), Lyra Allison (Whitby Heath), and Lucas Cairns (Woodfall) all celebrated success in the sunshine.
Nia won the year eight girls race, while Sidney secured success in the year eight boys race ahead of Christleton’s Matthew Chadwick and Upton’s Finlay Stewart.
Isla won the year seven event ahead of runner-up Ava Holmes (Upton High) and Amelia Clarke (Ellesmere Port Catholic High) in third spot, while Atharva won the year seven boys race ahead of Upton’s Henry Cobb and Ellesmere Port Catholic High’s Zach Dowdeswell.
Saskia delivered top spot in the year six girls race ahead of Farndon duo Zara Evans and Mollie Quinton who were second and third respectively, while Jack won the year six boys race ahead of Belgrave’s Zaan Brown and Guilden Sutton’s Xander Whelan who were second and third respectively.
Evelyn won the year five girls race ahead of runner-up Evie Kelly (Upton Heath) and third placed Heidi Anstey (Overleigh St Mary’s), while Niall claimed top spot in the year five boys race ahead of Max Molloy (Ysgol y Waen) and Hoole’s Logan Blackburn who were second and third respectively.
Evie won the year four girls race ahead of Hoole’s Arianwen Setters and third place Mia Rees (Acresfield), while Myron won the year four boys race ahead of Farndon’s Blake Robinson and third placed Eric Beddows (Hoole).
Lyra won the year three girls race ahead of Farndon’s Jessica Quinton and Acresfield’s Lottie Dennan who were second and third, while Lucas won the year three boys race ahead of Christleton duo Alex Craft and Harry Nicholson who were second and third respectively.
The next round is scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 7.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club distance runner clocked 32 minutes seven seconds for the challenging 9.8km course to secure second place in his over-35 age group and eighth position overall in an event that attracted 422 finishers.
He was backed up by Matthew Douglass (30th in 34:09), Graham Wells (first over-50 man and 31st overall in 34:14), Steve Fernyhough (51st in 35:17), Steve King (third over-50 and 52nd overall in 35:29), Paul Morrison (84th in 37:21), Wullie McGarrell (first over-60 man and 88th overall in 37:37), Fraser Campbell (98th in 38:00), Jeff Gifford (second over-60 man and 119th overall in 39:10), and Andrew Clague (third over-55 man and 121st overall in 39:13) to earn the men’s team sixth place in Division One on the day and sixth place overall after two rounds.
Rebecca Rosalski was West Cheshire AC’s first female finisher, posting a time of 39:51 for 16th position, supported by Claire Harris (third over-35 lady and 17th overall in 39:54), Emma Nutt (22nd in 40:46), Anest Muller (41st in 44:39), Amanda Newall (52nd in 46:06), and Joy Hickman (55th in 46:26), to secure the ladies team fifth place in Division One on the day and fourth place overall after two rounds.
Other West Cheshire AC finishers at Tattenhall included Paul Cain (176th in 43:20), Ian Pritchard (202nd in 45:06), Steve Hillier (203rd in 45:08), Brian Cremin (206th in 45:24), Neil Field (216th in 46:04), Clare Mallon (59th lady in 46:42), Amy Mills (68th lady in 47:27), Debra Bemand (69th lady in 47:59), and Dave Tiernan (280th in 59:49).
The next round will be held at Trac Mon, Anglesey, on Sunday, December 8 (11am start).
FIXTURES this weekend include the second round of the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Races at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Saturday, November 9 (10am start), and the Manchester Cross Country League, at Kenworthy Woods, on Saturday, November 9.
WEST CHESHIRE AC coaches will be delivering Sportshall Athletics in the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Sportshall between 6-8pm on Fridays, with the aim of helping youngsters prepare for the Schools Sportshall Athletics fixtures early next year. Please come along and support the sessions.

THE Cheshire County Cross Country Championships will be held at Betley Court Farm, near Crewe, on Saturday, January 4.
DATES and venues for this season’s Borders Road Running League are: December 8 at Cybi Striders; January 26 at Deestriders; March 16 at Ellesmere Port; April 6 at Buckley Runners; May 7 at either Prestatyn, Chester Tri, or West Cheshire (Presentation Evening).
All races are on Sundays and start at 11am except for the final race which is on a Wednesday evening with a 7pm start and is a relay event.
