Seniors compete at Super8 & Combined Events Champs

Carl Van Schie posted third place at the Northern Senior and Under 20 Combined Events Championships incorporated in the England Championships.
The West Cheshire AC decathlete included five new bests in the two-day competition and equalled his best points total of 6,352 to finish 11th overall in the England Championships.

He grabbed a new shot best of 11.10m before clearing a new high jump best of 1-83m on day one which also featured 11.71 seconds in the 100m, 6.26m in the long jump, and 50.68 seconds in the 400m.

Carl started the second day with a new 110m hurdles best of 16.44 seconds and added a new javelin best of 44.72m, and a 1500m best of four minutes 32.83 seconds.

Carl’s other two results included a 33.70m throw in the discus, and a 3-76m clearance in the pole vault.

West Cheshire AC duo Dave McKay and Nicola Gore represented Manchester in the new Super8 Track and Field Meeting at Cardiff.

Dave finished fifth in the men’s javelin with a throw of 65.47m and Nicola finished seventh in the women’s shot event with a put of 10.83m.

Road Racing Success

Steve Crowe and Andrew Clague have been crowned Cheshire Road Race Champions.Steve Crowe won the overall Cheshire men’s 5k title in a time of 16:24 after finishing third overall in the Hollins Green 5k Road Race which incorporated the Cheshire Championships.
Steve finished behind eventual winner Gareth Booth (Horwich RMI) and Rob Hughes (Salford Harriers) who was second.
Andrew Clague won the Cheshire over-40 men’s title with a time of 17 minutes 48 seconds, and Tony Thackray finished in 26:17.

Further Northern League Success

West Cheshire AC’s senior squad have strengthened their hopes of promotion.The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club enhanced their command at the top of the Northern Senior Track and Field League Division Two West table after their second round match at Litherland.

Double Medal Haul for Alice

Alice McMahon blasted her way to a double medal tally at the Northern Athletics Track and Field Championships.The West Cheshire AC grabbed a silver medal at the Gateshead International Stadium from the under 15 girls 100m after posting a time of 12.40 seconds and she added a bronze medal in the 200m final when she clocked 25.67
seconds.
Tom Booth delivered a medal-winning display in the under 17 men’s 400m hurdles final in a time of 59.75 seconds for the silver medal position.
Alice Jennings cleared 1-50m for joint third position in the under 15 girls high jump competition.
Jenni Potter posted 14.05 seconds in her heat of the under 15 girls 100m, and finished fifth with a time of 12.90 seconds in her heat of the 75m hurdles.
Stephen Jones claimed 24.69 seconds in his heat of the under 17 men’s 200m and Richard Farley covered his under 17 men’s 800m heat in two minutes 18.72 seconds.
Leah Ferrie clocked 13.19 seconds for fifth spot in her under 17 women’s 100mheat, and then posted 26.97 seconds for fifth place in her 200m heat.

West Cheshire AC members are reminded to attend this Saturday’s relay practice session (10am start), in readiness for the Cheshire County Track Relay Championships, to be held on Saturday, July 4, at Cheshire

Shell Chester Half Marathon

Ellen wins John Young Award

West Cheshire AC official Ellen Molloy has been presented with Cheshire Athletics Association’s John Young Award in recognition for her service to athletics in Cheshire.
