WCAC Off-Road Summer League 2019 Round 5

Nine purple vests, including two juniors and the entire Duffey Quartet, added to the colour of the sunny Langley Fete at Sutton near Macclesfield on Sunday.

No prizes for guessing who most enjoyed which of the varied attractions promised by the organisers, including “family fun, pet show, BEER and CAKE tents, BBQ, tug of war”, but all deserved for bolstering the numbers of a small field tackling a short, tough race.

League first-timers Claire and Joy were first woman and first Vet50 woman respectively, with ever-present league leader Ellie second woman on the day, and similarly ever-present Alex consolidating her league second place.

Richard Hayes was first purple vest home and first Vet40 man, moving up to equal 2nd in the league standings. Likewise, Andy and Mark made huge strides up both the hill and the league table, to 4th and joint 6th respectively.

A special well done to Georgina and Henrietta Duffey who, although not counting in the league, ran well and both beat at least one parent πŸ˜‰

Standings are now up at the bottom of the off-road page. There’s a two-and-a-half week breather before round 6, the midweek Green Green Grass of Home at Llangynhafal on Wednesday July 24th.

WCAC Off-road Summer League 2019 Round 4

Photo courtesy of Peter Smith – apologies for the dearth of Duffeys, and anyone else inadvertently cropped out of this one!

A whopping 17 senior runners (plus four juniors) caused questions to be asked at Wepre parkrun as to the preponderance of purple and yellow. It also meant more points all round, propelling ever-present Alex into 2nd place behind Ellie, with Keely, Eloise and Deb all increasing their scores, and Cathryn, Angela and Kay all getting off the mark in the league.

Chris, Tony W and pram-pushing Richard pulled clear in the men’s top three, with Steve, Darren, Peter and Mark all adding to their overall totals, and Julian and Tony K notching their first points.

Standings are now up at the bottom of the off-road page. Next round is the even-shorter-and-hillier-than-Wepre Langley Fete race on Sunday July 7th. As the Macclesfield Harriers website says about the fete: “lots of family fun, pet show,Β BEER andΒ CAKE [their capitals, not mine] tents, BBQ, tug of war, live music, many stalls etc..” (after you’ve done the race, of course).

WCAC Off-road Summer League 2019 Round 3

Twelve WCAC runners – the most so far in the off-road league – found out why the Wobbler is so named. The women’s team were a mere point behind the winners Chester Tri. while the scoring men packed well, inside the top 20.

Ellie, Kerry and Alex head the female rankings, with league first-timers Keely, Eloise Clare and Deb next in line. Chris, Dan, Mark, Tony, Richard and Andy are all close in the men’s league, with newcomer Steve now off the mark. Standings are now up at the bottom of the off-road page.

No dash from work for the next one, just drag yourselves out of bed for the 2nd(?) hilliest parkrun in the country, Wepre. For those of you who didn’t get enough of hilly woodland at the Wobbler, here’s your second helping, with four uphills (and two slopes) packed into 5k. More details to appear on the West Cheshire AC Road Running Facebook page….
