STAYING FOCUSED IN LOCKDOWN

Everyone is understandably frustrated and disappointed about the second lockdown from Thursday this week, but West Cheshire AC want to continue to help you stay physically and mentally fit and safe so that we can all come out the other side in the best possible shape.

We all still have memories of the first lockdown and of how we coped, so hopefully that will be a big advantage moving forward, so we must all stay in touch and help one another in these difficult times.

Please remember that I’m only a phone call away if you need to chat on 07968 643038, and I’ll do my best to keep you informed and entertained by producing this weekly Club Newsletter.

But I need you to help me by letting me know how you are getting on and what you are doing to keep yourself safe and to keep in good physical and mental condition, so please email me your ideas and suggestions to keep everyone in touch at: [email protected]

Finally, if you’ve got some steps handy to where you live, what about trying these Zoey Clark exercises?

BRIAN WRIGHT secured a podium place at the Cheshire 10k Road Race.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club over-65 veteran posted 45 minutes 45 seconds for second spot in his age group at the fixture held at Arley Hall, near Northwich.

TWO venues are in the frame to host the 2021 Cheshire Cross Country Championships if the fixture is allowed to go ahead in January.

Delamere Forest, with Vale Royal AC as hosts, is one possibility, while Betley Farm, Staffordshire, a private site close to the Cheshire border that has been used for the Staffordshire Championship and North Staffs Cross Country League, is another possibility.

Forest Park, Birchwood, Warrington, hosted by Spectrum Striders, is another proven site with good support from the club. However, isolating the event from the public for Covid would be a problem, so the option has been discounted.

COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY UPDATE

Two venues are in the frame to host the 2021 Cheshire Cross Country Championships. It may not be possible to hold the County championship in January 2021, but it has been agreed by Cheshire AA that plans should be developed.

ENGLAND ATHLETICS GUIDANCE

Following the new restrictions outlined on 22nd September by UK government, guidance for OUTDOOR club and group activity as well as all types of OUTDOOR competitions for athletics and running is not affected. However, guidance for INDOOR activity has been updated. Indoor activity for Under 18โ€™s can take place with larger numbers in a Covid-secure environment. Indoor training for athletes over the age of 18 is restricted to groups of 6 (1 coach to 5 athletes).

Please see below for the England Athletics guidance document for a return to restricted track and field competition in a Covid-19 secure setting (with new guidance for Cross Country added 18 September and links to Trail Running guidance added 1 October). This is written knowing that any step back to competition needs to be taken carefully and in full recognition of, and adherence to, government guidance that is in place at the time on Covid-19: EA will update the guidance if and when necessary – details here.
