Press Report: Five go to English Schools

THREE West Cheshire Athletic Club youngsters secured podium places at the English Schools Track and Field Championships.

Harriet Wheeler, Lewis Parsons, and Emily Owen all impressed while representing Cheshire at SportCity, Manchester.

Wheeler powered her way to third spot in the junior girls javelin with 38.48m.

Parsons clocked a new personal best of 23.60 seconds for third position in the junior boys 200m A final after posting 23.53 seconds for second spot in his heat.

And Owen achieved a new personal best of 12.54 seconds for third spot in the junior girls 100m B final, after posting 12.63 seconds in her heat.

Carys Roberts and Kara Stoll also represented Cheshire at the event, with Roberts posting 2:14.86 in her heat of the Intermediate Girls 800m, and Stoll achieving 27.44m in the junior girls hammer.

NATHAN BRASSINGTON represented Cheshire at Telford in the North West Regional Combined Events Championships and finished third in the Junior Boys Pentathlon with 2,121 points (13.4 seconds in 80m hurdles; 10.17m in shot put; 5.15m in long jump; 1-50m in high jump; 2:35.3 in 800m).

PHIL WOODLEY represented West Cheshire AC in the Lakeland Trail 55km Race and completed the challenging course with 2,000 metres of elevation in a time of nine hours nine minutes 34 seconds.

SISTERS Beth and Carys Manson represented West Cheshire AC at the Wirral AC Mini Meeting at Bebington Oval.

Beth posted a new personal best of 22.5 seconds in the under 13 girls 150m, while Carys also posted a new best of 13.0 seconds in the under 15 girls 75m hurdles.

Other West Cheshire AC members in action included Holly Bosworth who cleared 1-52m in the under 15 girls high jump, while Macey Jones posted 20.8 in the under 13 girls 150m and cleared 1-18m in the high jump.

Macy Brett clocked 28.8 in the under 15 girls 200m and 13.0 seconds in the 75m hurdles, while Emma Holmes posted 27.6 in the under 17 ladies 200m and long jumped 4.30m, and Ruby Wisbey long jumped 4.80m.

Lauren Williams posted 27.7 in the under 17 ladies 200m, while Aimee Phillips clocked 2:29.3 in the under 15 girls 800m, and sister, Ruby, achieved 2:37.9 in the under 13 girls 800m, while Cosette Wearden rounded the under 15 girls mile in 6:23.9.

FIXTURES this weekend include the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League at Bebington Oval, on Saturday (11.15am start), and the Chester 10k Road Race from Chester Racecourse on Sunday with four wave starts at 7.45am, 8.30am, 9.15am, and 10am.

Steve Fernyhough finished runner-up in the Chester Ultra 50 Miles Race alongside Danny Paddock. Just eight minutes separated first and second-placed runners with Steve crossing the line in a time of seven hours 28 minutes 16 seconds.

Angela and Julian Tegg completed the Tour of Merseyside Series which comprised of running a total of 52 miles – the Southport Half Marathon, Thurstaston Multi-Terrain, Sustrans Cycle Trail, Raging Red Bull 5, Knowsley Cross Country, and Wirral Coastal Run.

WIRRAL MULTI-TERRAIN RACE SERIES

A license for the series from Run Britain has been applied for and Wirral Council have agreed to the following fixture dates: Tuesday 7th September at Royden Park; Tuesday 14th September at Thurstaston; Tuesday 21st September at Harrison Drive; Tuesday 28th September at Arrowe Park.

Races are for members of local affiliated UKA running clubs and this year entry will be online and chip timing will be used to gather the results. NOTE: this means that entry fees may be a little more than the historic fee of Β£1 per race.

WIRRAL SEASIDE 5K RUNS ARE BACK

Licences and permissions are in place to offer a reduced series of three Wirral Seaside Races on the last Wednesday in July, August and September. The cost is Β£5 (UKA affiliated), but there will be no prizes or awards. Details of how to register for the July race will be available soon.

West Cheshire AC is scheduled to host the Cheshire Track and Field Championships at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22.

But County Officials secretary, Alan Morris, is currently struggling to find enough timekeepers and field judges, and we will need to allocate people to other roles such as Technical Manager, Seeding, Announcer, and Presentations, to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Under 13/Under 15 Youth Development League Merseyside Division: Saturday, July 17, (at Bebington Oval), and Saturday, September 4 (at Wavertree, Liverpool).

Under 17/Under 20 Youth Development League Merseyside Division: Sunday, July 25 (at Bebington Oval), and Sunday, September 5, (at Wavertree, Liverpool).

West Cheshire AC’s North Premier West League squad will conclude their campaign at Trafford, on Sunday, August 1.

West Cheshire AC’s Cheshire League third round is at Macclesfield on Saturday, July 24; and West Cheshire AC will host the final round at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday, August 29.

NORTHERN ATHLETICS 5k CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2021 Northern Athletics 5K Road Race Championships will return to the Sunderland 5K – hosted by Sunderland Harriers. The event will be on the evening of Thursday, 22nd July 2021, (subject to govt. regulations). Entry details will be posted on the Sunderland Harriers website when available.

WCAC Endurance League – Standings

John Driscoll has compiled endurance league standings as at the end of June 2021.

Keely, Katie, Steve and Richard are first and second in the respective women’s and men’s tables, followed by the inevitable multitude of equal 3rd placers, given the limited but slowly growing racing opportunities..

Press Report: Success all round for WCAC

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club achieved second spot at the latest round of the Northern Track and Field League.

The purple and gold-vested outfit produced a number of impressive performances during their hosted fixture held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village. Joseph Morrison, Jamie Richardson, Jac Goodall, Nathan Broomfield, Will Scott, Imogen Pughe, Liza Renondeau, Danielle Erskine and Sophie Percival all celebrated victories.

Morrison secured a double success story, clocking 1:55.3 in the 800m, and 10:16.1 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Richardson posted a winning time of 4:03.6 in the 1500m, while Nathan Broomfield (66.8) and Jac Goodall (65.8) made it a double success story in the 400m hurdles, and Scott launched the javelin to a mark of 39.48m to win the B event. Pughe stormed home to a new 400m personal best of 58.5 seconds, while Renondeau won the 3,000m in 10:50.9, Erskine achieved 4.79m for success in the B long jump, and Percival nailed 35.02m for victory in the javelin. And Jacob Clark anchored the 4x100m relay team of Liam Davoren, Matthew Webb and Victor Oyesola home to success.

NORTHERN TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE MATCH

The Club will be hosting the Northern League match for Under 17s, Under 20s, and Seniors, at Ellesmere Port Sports Village this Sunday, 4th July. The first field events start at 11.30am, and the first track event starts at 1pm. 

Team managers, Dave McKay and Jenny Manning, are still finalising the squad, so please help them fill any gaps in the team sheet and officials declaration sheet. Dave’s email address is: [email protected]

Volunteers are needed to set-up the equipment from 8am, during the event from 11.30am, and to tidy away from 4.30pm onwards. Please help your Club.

CONGRATULATIONS ELOISE!

Eloise Eccles finished second woman while representing the Club at the Montane Summer Spine Race. She finished the 268 miles race from Edale, Derbyshire, to the Scottish Borders in a time of 120 hours 35 minutes 26 seconds.

QUARTET SECURE SUCCESS IN BIG TEAM EFFORT

Jamie Richardson, Francesca Pughe, Isla Shillington, and Henry Robinson celebrated success for the Club on Sunday.

The quartet starred at the second round of the under 17 and under 20 Youth Development Track and Field League Merseyside Division.

Jamie secured victories in the under 17 men’s 1500m and 1500m steeplechase, Francesca powered her way to success in the under 20 womens hammer, Isla spun the under 17 womens discus to a winning mark, and Henry won the under 17 men’s B 1500m steeplechase.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based outfit finish second in their Northern Track and Field League first round match at Blackburn, and third in the Cheshire League second round fixture at Macclesfield.

WEST CHESHIRE AC’s under 15s and under 17s combined to secure third spot in the latest round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Macclesfield.

Lauren Williams, Ruby Wisbey, Emma Holmes, Evelyn Hogan, Rose Duggan, Emily Owen, Macy Brett, Holly Bosworth, Lara Fields, Sophie Haslam, Aimee Phillips, Carys Manson, Bella Khanijay, Harriet Wheeler, and Kara Stoll combined for the female squad.

And Fergus Garland, Callum Stow-Povall, Lewis Parsons, Rob Austin, Alex Rutherford, Nathan Brassington, Luke Parker, Luke Haslam, and Tom Shillington teamed up for the male contingent of the squad.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will host the second round of the under 17 and under 20 Youth Development Track and Field League at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track this Sunday. Volunteers are requested to help out before, during and after the fixture which starts at 12 noon.


THE British Track and Field Championships take place in Manchester this Saturday and Sunday.

Having watched Christian Eriksen collapse during the European Football Championships, it’s a reminder that we should all be having regular screenings and health checks given the intensity and levels we train at.
The attached link is for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) they are an organisation that screen 14-35 year olds, they use the screenings to check if there are any anomalies in the subjects cardiac rhythm.You can also consult your GP should you have any concerns.  β€œCardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).” The link is:

But County Officials secretary, Alan Morris, is currently struggling to find enough timekeepers and field judges, and we will need to allocate people to other roles such as Technical Manager, Seeding, Announcer, and Presentations, to ensure the event runs smoothly.

West Cheshire AC’s Cheshire League second and third rounds are at Macclesfield on Sunday, June 20 and Saturday, July 24; and West Cheshire AC will host the final round at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday, August 29.

LONDON MARATHON PLACE

West Cheshire AC London Marathon club place for Sunday 3rd October 2021.

Anyone over 18 who has been a fully paid up member continually since at least 1st April 2019 is invited to enter a ballot for this club place. The entry will be guaranteed but the full fees will be paid by the entrant themselves.

Applications should be received by WEDNESDAY 16Th JUNE. A random draw will then be done. The successful member will be notified and registered on the London Marathon system. London Marathon will send a customised link directly to the WCAC member giving personal access to the online entry system. The place cannot be handed on to a family member or friend.

England Athletics have outlined in an β€˜athletics and running roadmap’ infographic what everything means at each stage. More detailed guidance will be provided they have received further information from Sport England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Press Report: PBs at EPSV

PERSONAL bests were the order of the day for West Cheshire Athletic Club members at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Emily Owen, Lewis Parsons, Alex Rutherford, Robert Austin, and Macy Brett all celebrated success at the opening round of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League.

Owen ran her first race of the year and sliced a second off her under 15 girls 100m best, lowering her time to 12.7 seconds which is the qualifying time for the English Schools Championships and lifts her to 13th for her age group rankings overall in the country and fourth for a first year under 15.

Parsons sliced 0.3 off his under 15 boys 100m personal best to clock a club record-equalling 11.5 seconds which ranks him fifth in the country, and his time is also a qualifying mark for the English Schools Championships.

Rutherford lowered his under 15 boys 100m best to 12.1 seconds and Austin clocked a new best of 12.0 seconds, while Brett shaved 0.42 off her previous under 15 girls 100m personal best to post 13.6 seconds.

Parsons, Austin, and Rutherford were backed up in the under 15 boys age group by Luke Parker who posted 42.7 seconds in the 300m and 2:19.4 in the 800m, and by Luke Haslam who spun the discus to a mark of 19.10m and hit 6.92m in the shot.

Alfie Lane teamed up with Parsons, Austin, and Rutherford for a winning time of 47.5 seconds in the 4x100m relay.

Owen and Brett were backed up in the under 15 girls age group by Jessica Lark (2:22.8), Sophie Haslam (2:32.5), and Aimee Phillips (2:29.3) who produced a triple success in the 800m, and by Maddi Mercer, Lara Fields, Carys Manson, Helen Tenner, Holly Bosworth, Emily Russell, Harriet Wheeler, and Kara Stoll.

Isla Entwistle (31.50m) and Eleanor Neve (23.02m) teamed up for success in the under 13 girls javelin, and they were supported by team mates Macey Jones, Faith Barlow-Gambles, Charlotte Austin, Nancy Collins, Ruby Phillips, Ruby Billington, and Mae Grant.

Theo Shepherd, Ellis Williams, Evan Miller, Healy Smyth, Daniel Walker, Noah Woolgar, James Davidson, and Oliver Douglas combined for the under 13 boys.

MATCH RESULT: 1 Wirral AC 283 points; 2 Preston Harriers 271; 3 Liverpool Harriers & AC 266; 4 Southport Waterloo AC 222; 5 West Cheshire AC 208.
