WCAC win in heavy going at Uttoxeter

SONNY DEAN celebrated success at the final round of the North Staffs Cross Country League.

The West Cheshire AC youngster posted 14 minutes 41 seconds for victory in the under 15 boys race held at Uttoxeter racecourse.

Dean finished eight seconds clear of his nearest rival and was supported by team mates Sion Roberts (sixth in 15:32), Jac Goodall (seventh in 15:42), Jack Dodd (14th in 16:20), Alex Mason (15th in 16:30), Rory Willson (18th in 16:46), Patrick Tait (27th in 17:39), and Oliver Dandy (36th in 18:39). The West Cheshire under 15 boys won the team competition on the day.

Harvey Tegg headed the West Cheshire AC under 13 boys to the overall team title after four rounds, posting 14:28 for sixth spot, just three seconds ahead of seventh placed team mate Isaac Tait. The duo were backed up by Ethan Butler (14th in 15:09), Charlie Potts (15th in 15:09), Liam Farrell (33rd in 16:46), and Ivor Smith ( 52nd in 26:03).

Anna Crayston (fourth in 8:08) steered the West Cheshire under 13 girls to second spot overall in the team competition. Crayston was supported by Hollie Jones (17th in 8:57) and Molly Jones (30th in 9:43). And Tamsin O\\\\\\\’Keefe finished the four-round league series in third individual position in the under 13 girls age group.

Henry Robinson (eighth in 8:13), Fergus Garland (19th in 8:42), and Louis Tegg (27th in 8:59) combined to earn West Cheshire sixth team position.

Ethan Greenland (third in 18:45) and Harri Britton (15th in 23:14) completed the under 17 mens race, while Issy Clarke (sixth in 15:12) and Beth McMahon (17th in 16:36) finished the under 15 girls race, and Katie Clarke posted 17:13 for sixth position in the under 17 womens event.

Imogen Pughe (seventh in 6:20), Carys Roberts (ninth in 6:23), Lara Battersby (13th in 6:33), Scarlett Ross (19th in 6:51), and Nina Willson (52nd in 8:35) earned West Cheshire fourth place in the under 11 girls team event.

Ellie Robinson (35th in 23:34) and Anne-Marie Tait (70th in 25:21) combined for West Cheshire in the womens race.

John Parlevliet (95th in 38:35), Bob Benson (198th in 43:56), and Peter Smith (228th in 46:40) completed the senior mens event.

CHRISTY MAGEEAN of West Cheshire AC was first in the Delamere 5km parkrun in a time of 17 minutes 54 seconds, ahead of Graham Wells (sixth in 19:16), Adam Carlile (13th in 21:17), Charlie Weaver (22nd in 22:15), Charlie Clarke (34th in 23:27), and Kay Hayes (61st in 25:55), while Bob Freeman was first home for West Cheshire AC at the latest Ellesmere Port parkrun, posting 21:35.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will start their Cheshire Track and Field League campaign next year at Bebington Oval against host club, Wirral, Altrincham, Bury, Manchester, St Helens Sutton, and Colwyn Bay.

The Stanney Oaks-based club will travel to Crewe on Saturday, June 4, for the second round where they will face Trafford, Stockport, Halton and Frodsham, Colwyn Bay, and the host club. Warrington is the setting for the third round on Sunday, July 10, where they will oppose Macclesfield, Handforth and Wilmslow, Vale Royal, Salford, Colwyn Bay and the host club. And Colwyn Bay will host the final round on Sunday, September 4, where West Cheshire will face Wrexham, East Cheshire, Deeside, Maldwyn, and Menai.

FIXTURES this weekend include the West Cheshire AC Festive Fun Morning at Ellesmere Port Sports Village Sportshall, (assemble at 9.30am for a 10am start).

Youngsters to Deeside Indoor Outcome

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club will be represented in six age groups at the North West Sportshall League Final in January.

The Stanney Oaks-based outfit celebrated four team victories at the final round of the three-round competition held at Deeside College, and now qualify for the final to be held on Sunday, January 24.

Freya Johnston, Sara Pearson, Scarlett Ross, Imogen Pughe, Stephanie Jones, Grace Scott, Lara Battersby, Libby Dowling, Carys Roberts, Isla Shillington, Dervla Desouza, and Ruby Wisbey combined for the winning under 11 girls squad.

Tamsin O’Keefe, Anna Crayston, Mimi Jayaram, Ambre Richards, Sophie Cribb, Emma Ashcroft, Abigail Cartwright, and Lucia Pyne teamed up for success in the under 13 girls competition.

Jac Goodall, Dave Dentith, Josh Ford, Daniel Pagan, Will Scott, and Ewan Brandon steered the under 15 boys to success.

And the under 13 boys team of Ivor Smith, Matthew Webb, Michael Maxwell, Ethan Butler and Harvey Tegg grabbed glory.

ROB FREEMAN (fifth in 20:59) was the first West Cheshire AC finisher at the Ellesmere Port 5km parkrun, ahead of Jack Dodd (sixth in 21:00), Harvey Tegg (13th in 23:02), Charlie Clarke (14th in 23:16), Imogen Pughe (17th in 23:47), Mimi Jayaram (18th in 24:12), and Louis Tegg (21st in 24:27).

Pyne stands tall in Sefton Park

LUCIA PYNE starred for West Cheshire Athletic Club at Sefton Park.

The youngster secured 18th position in a field of 118 competitors at the British Cross Country Challenge event in Liverpool.Pyne ran a controlled race and completed the under 13 girls event in a time of 12 minutes six seconds.

West Cheshire club mate Harvey Tegg clocked 11:33 for 42nd spot in the under 13 boys race, while his brother, Louis, posted 8:30 for 44th position in the under 11 boys event.

Dave Dentith was the first of four West Cheshire finishers in the under 15 boys race, clocking 10:43 for 45th place, ahead of Jac Goodall (80th in 11:19), Rory Willson (103rd in 11:45), and Patrick Tait (116th in 12:21).

Ethan Greenland completed the under 17 mens race in 89th place (20:14), ahead of Harri Britton, who posted 25:04 for 129th place.

Zeinab Weyers (158th in 39:16) and Anne-Marie Tait (167th in 40:31) represented West Cheshire in the senior womens race.

Mark Davies headed the West Cheshire male contingent in 234th place (38:37), backed up by Denis Duret (384th in 43:12), Bob Benson (458th in 47:08) and Peter Smith (504th in 49:40).

JOHN DRISCOLL was appointed West Cheshire AC president at the annual general meeting f the club on Friday November 27th. Other officers elected included Jon Tipping as club chairman, Dan Gilroy as club secretary, and Bob Benson as club treasurer.

WEST CHESHIRE AC youngsters will be aiming to consolidate their age group team positions at the final round of the North West Sportshall League this Sunday at Deeside College (12.30pm start).
The purple-vested club currently lead in the under 13 boys and girls and under 15 boys competitions after two of the three rounds staged at Widnes and Crewe.

Nearly 300 brave the Stanney cold

A TOTAL of 298 youngsters competed in the second round of the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series.

Pupils from across the district braved icy temperatures to complete the latest fixture in the four-round series held at Stanney Oaks.

Carys Roberts (Tarporley) won the year five girls race in 5:44, ahead of runner-up Martha Willetts (Tarvin) in 5:58, and third-placed Scarlett Ross (Tarporley) in 6:01.

Zak Dean (5:21) and Nathan Robinson (5:31) made it a one-two for Helsby Hillside in the year five boys race ahead of third-placed Fergus Garland (Childer Thornton) who posted 5:32.

Holly Weedall (Cuddington) won the year six girls race in 5:07, ahead of Childer Thornton duo Imogen Pughe (5:31) and Lara Battersby (5:34) who finished second and third.

Ted Bolton (Christleton) posted a winning time of 5:10 in the year six boys race, two seconds clear of runner-up William Sutcliffe (Mill View), while Thomas Doherty (The Firs) was third in 5:22.

Sisters Lottie and Jessica Wood from Helsby High finished first and second respectively in the year seven girls race with times of 9:21 and 9:54.

Dylan Bugg, of Tarporley, won the year seven boys race in 8:12, ahead of Upton duo Matthew Holtom (8:15) and Ethan Dawson (8:24) who were second and third.

Mimi Jayaram (Abbeygate) won the year eight girls race in 14:37, while Jack Hollins (Upton) was the year eight boys winner in 12:09, ahead of second-placed Dylan Moore (Christleton) in 12:41, and Aaron Scott (Neston) who was third in 13:55.

Eleanor Williams (Kings) won the year three girls race in a time of 3:25, ahead of runner-up Ella Hims (Childer Thornton) in 3:34, and third-placed Cerys Rowlands (Woodlands) in 3:44.

Henry Copelin (Eaton) won the year four boys race in 3:25, ahead of second-placed Joshua Oates (Newton) in 3:35, and Joseph Ireland (Mill View) who was third in 3:36.

Jessica Lark (Upton Heath) clocked 3:29 to win the year four girls race, ahead of Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House) who was second in 3:41, and third-placed Darcey Fay (Helsby Hillside) in 3:43.

Ben Grantham (Bishop Wilson) posted 3:14 to win the year four boys race, just one second in front of Reece Munro (Eccleston), while Cameron Tapley (Delamere) was third in 3:18.

The next round in the series of schools cross country races at Stanney takes place on Saturday, February 6.

ABIGAIL PAWLETT and Emily Misantoni, of West Cheshire AC, finished joint second in an indoor quadrathlon competition held at Sportcity, Manchester.

ANDREW CARTER of West Cheshire AC posted a new personal best time of 89 minutes 13 seconds at the Conwy Half Marathon, ahead of club mates Steve Hillier (333rd in 96:55), Neil Carter (513th in 1:41:53), Sharon Eaton (947th in 1:53:35),

WEST CHESHIRE AC members secured three of the top four places at the latest Delamere 5k parkrun.

Jerome Castelow won the event in 17 minutes 42 seconds, while Christy Mageean was second in a new personal best time of 17:47, and Ethan Greenland finished fourth in 18:13.

Sonny shines at Stormy Stafford

SONNY DEAN helped Cheshire Schools to a cross-country team success at Stafford. The West Cheshire member posted 14 minutes 18 seconds for fourth position at the Inter-Counties match, and was backed up by clubmates Charlie Potts (72nd in 16:33), Ben Grinter (73rd in 16:33), and Sion Roberts.

Emily Misantoni finished sixth in the junior girls race with a time of 12:19, ahead of clubmate Anna Crayston (39th in 13:10), while Issy Clarke completed the intermediate girls race in 16:12 for 12th spot.

Isaac Tait was first home for the Cheshire Year Seven Boys team, finishing sixth overall in a time of 9:04, ahead of club mate Dylan Bugg (35th in 9:38).

Ethan Greenland (32nd in 21:48) was a member of the winning Cheshire intermediate boys team, alongside club mate Jac Goodall (52nd in 22:29).

WEST CHESHIRE AC under 15 boys, under 13 girls and under 13 boys all secured success at the second round of the North West Sportshall League held at South Cheshire College, Crewe.

Aaron Scott, Nathan Partington, Ethan Butler, Michael Maxwell, Harvey Tegg, Matthew Webb, Noah St Hill, and Alfie Baker secured top spot in the under 13 boys team competition.

Anna Crayston, Lauren Jones, Sophie Cribb, Nia Forshaw, Isobel Ellis, Abi Pawlett, Ambre Richards, Tamsin O’Keefe, and Emma Ashcroft raced to success in the under 13 girls event.

Tamsin O’Keefe, Molly Jones, and Abigail Cartwright combined for the under 13 girls team, while Harvey Tegg, Ethan Butler, Liam Farrell, and Ivor Smith represented the club in the under 13 boys race, and Patrick Tait, Rory Willson, and Oliver Dandy teamed up for the under 15 boys.

Jerome heads WCAC charge in park

JEROME CASTELOW spearheaded a record-breaking West Cheshire AC Borders Road Running League charge at Birkenhead Park.

The University of Chester student completed the 5.5 miles course in a time of 32 minutes 26 seconds for 25th position ahead of 26 other purple-vested men and eight West Cheshire ladies.

Castelow was backed up by Borders League debutant Richard Farley (29th in 32:35), Mark Davies (33rd in 32:42), league debutant Ethan Greenland (45th in 33:22), David Tait (58th in 33:54), Andrew Clague (60th in 33:56), Neil Hershaw (63rd in 34:03), Andy Carter (65th in 34:10), Tony Woodall (68th in 34:25), and John Parlevliet (74th in 34:40).

The 10 scoring counters earned West Cheshire third team position in Division One on the day and third spot overall after two rounds.

Katie Clarke was the first West Cheshire lady home, clocking 13th place with a time of 37:16. The under 20 junior was supported by Anest Muller (16th in 37:28), Clare Mallon (54th in 43:07), and Ann-Marie Tait (58th in 43:38), to earn West Cheshire fifth team position both on the day and overall after two rounds.

Sharon Eaton, completed her first-ever Borders League race and finished 61st in 43:53, ahead of Kay Hayes (67th in 45:00), Sophie Carter (99th in 49:39), and Laura Smith (100th in 49:52).

WILLIAM WRIGHT represented West Cheshire at Sherdley Park, St Helens at the Manchester Cross Country League and posted 12:17 for eighth spot in the under 13 boys race, and Denis Duret clocked 41:26 for 25th position in his 45-49 age group.

SION ROBERTS (sixth in 20:02) headed the West Cheshire contingent at the Delamere parkrun, ahead of Charlie Weaver (10th in 20:25), Issy Clarke (14th in a new personal best of 21:04), Charlie Clarke (42nd in 24:14), and Mike Perchard (88th in 27:35).

ROB FREEMAN posted 21:23 for seventh spot at the Ellesmere Port parkrun, ahead of Mimi Jayaram (19th in 24:09), and Abigail Cartwright (24th in 25:16).

WEST CHESHIRE AC will hold their AGM at Cheshire County Sports Club\’s boardroom on Friday, November 27, (7.30pm start).

FIXTURES this weekend include the third round of the North Staffs Cross Country League at Park Hall Country Park, Weston Coyney, Stoke on Trent, on Saturday (12 noon start).

The second round of the North West Sportshall Athletics League takes place on Sunday at South Cheshire College, Crewe, (12.30pm start).

Spookily good Halloween parkruns

ETHAN GREENLAND warmed up for the Borders Road Running League fixture on Sunday with a victory. The West Cheshire AC teenager clocked a winning time of 18 minutes nine seconds at the Delamere 5km Park Run.

He was joined at the event by West Cheshire clubmate Evan Roberts (fourth in 18:52), Christy Mageean (fifth in 18:57), Alex Staniforth (seventh in 18:59), Jac Goodall (15th in 19:58), Sion Roberts (17th in 20:06), and Charlie Weaver (18th in 20:09).

Other West Cheshire AC finishers at Delamere included Harri Britton (32nd in 21:47), Ben Mason (60th in 23:33), Molly Jones (63rd in 23:42), Charlie Clarke (65th in 23:48), Henry Robinson (68th in 23:52), Ellie Robinson (69th in 23:53), Rory Willson (86th in 24:47), Adam Howe (107th in 25:40), Kay Hayes (111th in 25:47), Pamela Ackroyd (153rd in 27:52), Leon Moorhouse (171st in 29:09), Ivor Smith (232nd in 32:17), Peter Smith (233rd in 32:18), and Lily Moorhouse (271st in 34:00).

Mark Davies was the first West Cheshire AC finisher at the Ellesmere Port 5km Park Run, clocking 19:12 for second place and being backed up by Bob Freeman who posted 20:10 for sixth position.

Bob Benson rounded the Whitby Park course in 12th place with a time of 21:27, ahead of club colleagues Anest Muller (15th in 21:48), Liam Farrell (17th in 22:10), Luke Parker (38th in 25:21), Dave Bish (44th in 26:21), Louis Tegg (47th in 27:04), and Harvey Tegg (52nd in 27:50).

BRIAN BEATTIE posted 28:42 at the Edinburgh 5km Park Run held at Figgate Park.

WEST CHESHIRE AC men and women will be aiming to match or better their Borders Road Running League Division One team results from the opening round when they line-up for action this Sunday at 11am at Birkenhead Park for a four-lap 5.5 miles course.

Both men and women achieved fourth position in their respective team competitions at the first round staged at Capenhurst.

Any West Cheshire AC members wanting to car share this Sunday should meet at Cheshire County Sports Club, Plas Newton Lane, Upton, CH2 1PR, at 9.30am with last car leaving at 9.45am.
