Press report: Andy and Jon are Go-Faster Masters

ANDY PARKER and Jon Clarke delivered medal performances at the British Masters Track and Field Championships.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club duo secured podium places at the annual event held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Parker clocked 52.24 seconds for a silver medal in the over 40 men’s 400m, just two hundredths of a second behind eventual winner Adam Bellis, from Trafford.

And Clarke rounded the over 60 men’s 3,000m walk in a new personal best time of 26 minutes 43.65 seconds for the bronze medal.

JOE FOY achieved third spot in his over-60 age group at the Mid Cheshire 5k Road Race held at Kingsley.

Foy posted 19:39, and was joined at the event by West Cheshire AC team mates Alex Staniforth (17:20), Andy Carter (17:34), Neil Hershaw (17:51), Richard Hayes (18:02), Danny Paddock (18:01), and Mark Gallagher (20:19).

ALEX RUTHERFORD of West Cheshire AC posted a new long jump personal best of 4.26m and clocked 14.29 seconds for his 100m at the Trafford AC Open Medal Meeting.

He was joined at Trafford by Imogen Pughe who won her 200m heat in 27.38 seconds and her 800m heat in 2:24.92.

ANDY CARTER was first home for West Cheshire AC at the Chester 5k parkrun with a time of 19:08, ahead of club mates Jac Goodall (19:54), David Tait (20:00), Mark Gallagher (21:41), Isaac Tait (21:59), Jessica Lark (25:33), Rosemary Rogers (25:46), Macy Brett (25:55), Bob Benson (26:10), Ellen McMahon (26:43), Brian Beattie (27:57), Anne Marie Tait (29:52), Ingrid Tait (31:32), and Jack Brett (31:57).

JACK HOLLINS was West Cheshire AC’s first finisher at the Delamere 5k parkrun in a time of 23:42, ahead of Joe Hollins (25:31), and Sammy Hollins (25:31), while Tony Woodall clocked a new personal best of 20:17 at the Wepre 5k parkrun, and Rob Freeman posted 22:49 at the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun.

FIXTURES this weekend include the final round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Eccles on Sunday (11.45am start), and the UK School Games at Loughborough

ELLESMERE PORT SPORTS VILLAGE will be the setting for this winter’s Essar West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series being held on Saturdays, October 20, November 3, February 9, and March 2, (all 10am start).

ANY athletes on holiday in this area who are looking for an athletics track to train on are being invited to attend West Cheshire AC’s training days at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6.30-8pm), and on Saturdays (10am-12 noon).

ROYDEN PARK, Thurstaston is the venue for the opening round of the Wirral Multi-Terrain Races on Tuesday, September 4 (7pm start), with Harrison Drive, Wallasey (September 11), Thurstaston Country Park (September 18), and Arrowe Park, Birkenhead (September 25), completing the series.

FORTHCOMING fixtures include the Cheshire and North West Road Relay Championships at Delamere on September 8; and the Northern Athletics Road Relay Championships at Sportcity, Manchester, on Sunday, September 23.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will start their cross country campaign on Saturday, September 29, at the first round of the North Staffs League being held at Knights Grange, Winsford, and other rounds will be held on October 27 (at Stafford Common), November 17 (at Park Hall, Stoke), and December 15 (at Rodbaston College, Penkridge).

Liverpool and District Cross Country League dates are: October 13 (at Beacon Park, Skelmersdale), November 24 (at Sefton Park), December 8 (at Arrowe Park, Birkenhead), and February 10 (at Clarke Gardens).

The opening round of the North Wales Cross Country League will be held on October 6, at Baschurch, Shrewsbury, and other rounds will be staged on October 20, November 10, January 12 (at Wrexham), and February 2 (at Oswestry).

Wythenshawe Park is the venue for the opening round of the Manchester Cross Country League on Saturday, October 13, and other rounds will be held on November 10 (at Kenworthy Woods), on December 1 (at Woodbank Park, Stockport), on January 12 (at Heaton Park), and on February 9.
