Olivia Wins U20 Heptathlon Silver

Olivia Montez Brown pocketed a silver medal at the England Under 20 Combined Events Championships.The talented West Cheshire AC multi-eventer compiled a new personal best total of 4,583 points in the heptathlon at Bedford which attracted 17 competitors.
Olivia, who lives in Ellesmere Port, started the two-day event by clocking 15.14 seconds in the 100m hurdles, before clearing 1-54m in the high jump, hitting 9.31m in the shot, and posting 26.56 seconds in the 200m.
Olivia opened the final day by long jumping 5.24m, launching the javelin 32.08m, and then rounded the 800m in two minutes 27.92 seconds.
Olivia finished eight points ahead of third placed Niamh Bailey (Kettering Town Harriers), and adrift of eventual winner, Danielle McGifford (Wigan) who posted 5,113 points.

Would you like to Run A Mile?

WCAC members are invited to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Roger Bannister’s first sub-four minute mile at the Stanney Oaks Track, Ellesmere Port, on Tuesday, 6th May, 2014, 8pm start. All welcome.

2013 winners Kate Jayden and Bob Freeman lead as at the end of February, although new members Peter Smith, Rosemary Rogers and Anest Muller feature prominently in the top three. The lines on the track still need to be painted where the repair work has taken place, but this will hopefully take place on Wednesday.

Sport Relief Mile

People Of Ellesmere Port Joined The Fun And Games For Sport Relief – Thank You!
More than 170 local people turned out in force on Sunday 23rd March at the Sainsburys Sport Relief Mile in Ellesmere Port. Milers of all ages were sponsored to do 1, 3 or 6 miles around the Stanney Oaks Athletics Track.

The day was a huge success with friends, families and work mates all joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2014.

Brio Leisure Bear joined in the fun and encouraged participants who included students from Chester University and members of West Cheshire Athletic Club who helped organise the event.

Event organiser, Dennis Wall said: It was an amazing day Watching the community come together to support such a great cause was brilliant We feel so proud knowing that the money raised here today will help people living really tough lives right here in Cheshire, the UK and across the world.

All over the UK, people of all ages came together to run, swim or cycle at over 1,000 Sainsburys Sport Relief Games events across the length and breadth of the country over the Sport Relief weekend.
