ABIGAIL PAWLETT and George Hyde have been crowned England Indoor Track and Field Championship title winners.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club pair grabbed success at the annual fixture held at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport Arena.

Pawlett clocked a new under 15 girls personal best time of 8.85 seconds to secure the 60m hurdles title and claim top spot in the UK age group rankings and fifth position in the all-time British ranking list.

And the talented all-rounder also bagged a silver medal in the under 15 girls long jump with 5.25m.

Hyde continued to impress on the back of his Northern Indoor title display in January, achieving 15.80m at Sheffield to secure the England Indoor Under 17 men’s shot put title – more than one metre clear of his nearest rival.

HARVEY, Louis, Angela and Julian Tegg made it a family affair by representing West Cheshire AC at the English National Cross Country Championships held at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park.

Harvey posted 19 minutes 10 seconds for 332nd spot in the under 15 boys race alongside Sion Roberts (194th in 17:14), and Aaron Scott (368th in 21:14).

Louis finished 400th with 15:56 in the under 13 boys event alongside William Wright (125th in 13:51), and Sam Hollins (267th in 14:42), while Angela rounded the senior women’s race for 573rd spot in 44:52.

Julian negotiated the challenging senior men’s course in 64:19 for 1,524th position, accompanied by Andrew Clague (826th in 52:57), Andy Carter (985th in 54:57), and John Parlevliet (1,143rd in 57:21).

Ethan Greenland spearheaded the under 17 men’s team home to 19th spot after clocking 22:58 for 99th position.

He was backed up by Jac Goodall (152nd in 23:34), Dave Dentith (196th in 24:08), and Rory Willson (234th in 25:04).

Lucia Pyne rounded the under 13 girls race in 15:14 for 165th position, ahead of Imogen Pughe (264th in 15:56), and Grace Scott (439th in 18:25), and Lily Moorhouse clocked 25:20 for 421st spot in the under 15 girls race, while her father, Jon, completed the men’s race in 68:19 for 1,621st spot, and second claim West Cheshire AC runner, Brad Spurdens, representing Nene Valley Harriers, posted 39:38 for 161st position in the junior men’s race.

ETHAN ACKROYD, of Deeside AAC who trains at West Cheshire AC, clocked 18:19 for eighth spot in the under 17 mens race at Swansea in the Welsh National Cross Country Championships.

Forthcoming fixtures include the CAU Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships on Saturday, March 11, at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough; the Under 11s North West Fun In Sportshall Athletics Competition on Sunday, March 12, at Sportcity, Manchester and, on the same day; the Wrexham Marathon (9am start), and Half Marathon (10.30am start).

ROB LITTLE spearheaded West Cheshire Athletic Club’s charge at the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon.

Little rounded the 13.1 miles course in a time of one hour 18 minutes four seconds to secure 44th position overall and 10th spot in his over-40 age group.

He finished in the field of 1,300 runners ahead of club mates Chris Palmer (175th in 1:27:03), Andrew Carter (178th in 1:27:15), and over-60 age group category winner Joe Foy (1:28:32).

Other West Cheshire AC finishers included Luke Ellis (196th in 1:28:34), Mark Davies (223rd in 1:29:37), 11th lady overall Keely Smith (1:31:26), fifth over-60 finisher Rob Freeman (1:33:22), and Neil Carter (17th over-55 man in 1:41:25).

Clare Mallon posted 1:48:58 to secure 24th over-40 lady spot, ahead of Peter Smith (32nd over-55 man in 1:50:31), Brian Beattie (second over-70 man in 1:56:48), and Jo Bridge (103rd lady in 2:11:22).

WEST CHESHIRE AC duo Emily Ball and Sophie Percival warmed up for the outdoor season with appearances at the British Universities and Colleges Indoor Championships at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport Arena.

Ball, representing Sheffield University, powered her way to a new shot put personal best of 13.08m for second spot in the under 23 womens age group and fourth position overall in the womens competition after winning her qualifying pool with 12.53m, and Percival, representing Chester University, fourth in her under 23 age group and 10th overall with 11.16m in the final after posting a new personal best of 11.99m for second spot in her qualifying pool.

TOM BOOTH completed the Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon in New Zealand with a sub-six hour performance.

The West Cheshire AC endurance runner negotiated the challenging course which comprised of 2,500 metres of ascent, with a time of five hours 36 minutes to secure eighth position.

JAC GOODALL clocked a new personal best time of 17:46 to win the Chester 5k parkrun, exactly one minute ahead of third-placed club mate Andrew Clague.

Other West Cheshire AC finishers included William Wright who posted a new personal best of 19:29 for fifth spot, Sammy Hollins (11th in 20:06), Adam Carlile (12th in 20:15), Isaac Tait (27th in 21:55), David Tait (28th in 21:56), Georgina Duffey (seventh lady in 24:44), Bob Benson (65th in 24:48), Sarah Hughes (99th in 26:53), Ingrid Tait (33:17), and Anne-Marie Tait (33:25).

Rob Freeman finished seventh in 20:54 at the Ellesmere Port 5k Park Run, ahead of John Pughe (18th in 23:58), Harvey Tegg (19th in 24:24), Rosemary Rogers (fourth lady in 25:44) and Angela Tegg ( sixth lady in 25:57).

THREE West Cheshire AC members are preparing to represent Cheshire at next month’s CAU Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships.

Lucia Pyne, and sisters Katie and Issy Clarke have been selected for the annual fixture which will be held at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough, on Saturday, March 11.

EIGHTEEN West Cheshire AC youngsters have been selected to represent Cheshire at next month’s North West Sportshall Athletics Competitions at Sportcity, Manchester.

The under 11s Fun In Sportshall Athletics Competition takes place on Sunday, March 12, and the under 13 and under 15 regional event will be held on Saturday, March 18.

FIXTURES this weekend include the English National Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, on Saturday (11am start), the same day as the Welsh Cross Country Championships at Singleton Park, Swansea.

Other fixtures include the England Under 15, under 17, and under 20 Indoor Track and Field Championships at Sheffield on Saturday and Sunday; the Oulton Park 10k and Half Marathon on Sunday (10am start), and the Ruthin 5k and 10k on Sunday (9am start).

DETAILS of the Senior and Junior Fell and Hill Inter-Counties Championships are now available and links are given on the UKCAU web-page for fell running.

The Senior event will be in Broughton, Scotland, on May 13. The Junior event will be at Rossendale on June 10. CHESTER King’s School duo Eleanor Williams and Charlie Beyeler scored top marks at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

The pair celebrated victories at the penultimate round of the popular Essar West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series which attracted more than 200 participants.

Williams triumphed in the year four girls race with a time of two minutes 53 seconds, ahead of runner-up Ella Hims (Childer Thornton) in 3:04, and third placed Issy Read (Upton Heath) who clocked 3:15.

And Beyeler grabbed glory in the year four boys race in 2:51, five seconds clear of runner-up Benjamin Williams (Willaston), while Joseph Ireland (Mill View) finished third in 2:59.

Delamere’s Isla Entwistle secured success in the year three girls race with a time of 3:23, just two seconds clear of runner-up Grace Henderson (Mill View), with Rebecca Line (Tarporley) in third spot with 3:27.

Upton Heath’s Maxwell Carter won the year three boys race in 2:59, just five seconds ahead of second placed Ieuan Morris (Kelsall), and Ben Hackett (Saughall All Saints) finished third in 3:05.

Helen Tenner, from Kelsall, won the year five girls race in 5:00, just three seconds ahead of runner-up Jessica Lark (Upton Heath), while Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House) was third in 5:05.

Bishop Wilson’s Ben Grantham secured victory in the year five boys race in 4:25, ahead of second placed Reece Munro (Eccleston) who clocked 4:32, and third-placed Finn Howard (Overleigh St Marys) who posted 4:36.

Tarporley’s Carys Roberts won the year six girls race in 4:30, well clear of runner-up Jessica Hennessey (Newton) who posted 4:53, and third-placed Ruby Wisbey (Kelsall) in 5:03.

Willaston’s Elliott Bujac won the year six boys race in 4:28, nine seconds clear of runner-up Ewan Millington (Bryn Coch) who posted 4:39, and third-placed Dan Willetts (Tarvin) in 4:47.

Imogen Pughe (Wirral Grammar) secured success in the year seven girls race in 7:54, ahead of Christleton’s Stephanie Jones who posted 8:10, and third-placed Fatoumatta Bojang (Upton) who clocked 8:12.

Upton’s Sam Hollins grabbed glory in the year seven boys race in 7:28, ahead of Christleton’s Henry Robinson in 7:50, and third placed Upton pupil Sam Tilston who clocked 8:43.

Lucia Pyne from West Kirby Grammar posted a winning time of 11:16 in the year eight girls race, ahead of runner-up Abigail Cartwright (Wirral Girls) in 13:07.

And Matthew Holtom finished ahead of fellow Upton pupil Simon Davies in the year eight boys race with times of 10:55 and 12:26 respectively.

ANEST MULLER will represent North Wales at the CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships next month.

The West Cheshire AC race ace who finished second overall in her over-35 age group in the North Wales Cross Country League, is preparing for the senior women’s 5k race at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough, on Saturday, March 11. Muller will be joined at the event by Deeside AAC’s Ethan Ackroyd who trains at West Cheshire AC.

Dave Alexander finished second overall in his over-45 age group in the North Wales Cross Country League, and Ellie Robinson was sixth in her over-40 age category.
