West Cheshire AC members experience English Schools’

Seven West Cheshire AC members experienced the two-day English Schools’ Track and Field Championships at Gateshead.
Junior boy Chris Goodwin finished 4th in his heat of the 800m with a time of 2.6.13

Inter girls- Bryony Potter, clocked 42.15 for 7th place in her heat of the 300m and Sam Galley 5th in her heat of the 200m with a time of 26.11

Junior girls- Alice McMahon came 6th in her 200m with a time of 26.54 and Alice Jennings cleared 1-47m for joint 8th in the high jump competition.
They then teamed up for Cheshire in the 4x100m relay and secured fourth place in their heat with a time of 52.42

Senior girls- Kate Titlow finished 14th in a time of 10:58.89 in the 3,000m and Sian Kelman posted 5.37m for 7th position in the long jump.
Kate and Sian then combined in the 4x10m relay and finished second for Cheshire in their heat with a time of 49.81s, and sixth in the final.

Dave McKay launched a throw to a best mark of 63.74m for 10th position at the Olympic Trials held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

The West Cheshire AC all-rounder has experienced his best season ever in the javelin after capturing the Cheshire title and nailing a new personal best while representing Cheshire in the CAU Inter-Counties Meeting staged at Bedford.
The Ellesmere Port-based thrower, who has thrown a new best distance of 70.43m this year, has been a key figure in West Cheshire AC’s Northern Track and Field League squad and has helped the club into second place after two rounds of the four-round series of fixtures.

Dave will travel to compete in the Olympic Trials javelin event which is scheduled to be held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, on July 11-13.

Northern Athletics Senior and U20 Championships

Dave Mckay wins silver with a new Javelin PB and club record with a massive throw of 70.43m. Lauren Hunt also won silver in the discus 34.80m, Sian Kelman won bronze in the long jump and achieved a new club record 5.46m.

Northern League, Wavertree

Dave McKay powered his way to a hat-trick of victories.The Cheshire Men’s County Javelin champion played a key role in helping West Cheshire AC secure 3rd position in the 2nd round of the Northern Track and Field League held at Wavertree, Liverpool.
With a throw of 61.88m in the javelin, he added further maximum points from the shot (12.50m), and the 110m hurdles (18.2 seconds). Dave was joined by Merseyside County 800m champion, Alex Haswell, who rounded the two laps in a time of 2:00.1. Michael Lyness, won the B 400m hurdles in 65.9s, and the B pole vault with a clearance of 2-90m, while Andrew Gore launched himself to 3.00m in the A pole vault and the B javelin (44.57m).
Nicola Gore spearheaded the charge from the ladies squad with a double success story.
The Cheshire county champion delivered a winning put of 10.96m in the shot and spun the discus to a top mark of 37.89m, adding second spot in the hammer (32.24m).
Sam Galley blasted her way to victory in the B 100m (13.0 seconds), while Rebecca Grimes negotiated the B 400m hurdles in 77.1 seconds for success.

England Athletics Combined Events Championships

Decathlete Carl Van Schie finished 15th in the England Athletics Combined Events Competition and 2nd in the North of England competition held at Alexander Stadium Birmingham,with a final points total of 6002. From a starting line up of 26 competitors Carl achieved personal best performances in the 100m 11.34s and High Jump 1.79m .

Northern Athletics Junior Championships

Alice Jennings wins a gold medal at the Northern Athletics track and field championships.The talented West Cheshire AC youngster claimed the under 15 girls’ high jump title with a clearance of 1-60m at Robin’s Park, Wigan.
Alice, who also finished sixth in the shot with 8.03m, was joined at the event by Chris Goodwin who won a silver medal in his debut 3,000m appearance, with a time of 10:16.90 seconds for second position in the under 15 boys race.
Bryony Potter took the silver medal in the under 17 women’s 300m with a time of 41.31 seconds, and finished fifth in her 200m final (25.69).
Michael Lyness won two bronze medals in the under 17 men’s discus (40.09m) and high jump (1-80m).
Other West Cheshire AC finalists included Jenni Potter finished 5th in 12.27s in the under 15 girls 75m hurdles; Aamir Walwyn 7th in the under 17 men’s 400m in 52.09s, Tom Booth who was 5th in the under 17 men’s 400m hurdles in 62.55s.

Young Athletes League at Litherland

Bradley Edwards and Liam Renton headed West Cheshire AC’s charge at the second round of the Young Athletes League Northern Premier League match held at Litherland.The pair combined to secure maximum points in the under 15 boys 1500m, with Bradley posting 4:38.9 for victory, and Liam clocking 4:39.9 for top spot in the B race.
Luke Bailey spun the under 15 boys discus to a winning mark of 20.06m and hit 17.08m for second spot in the hammer.
Michael Willis won the under 15 boys B800m in 2:31.7, behind second B club mate Chris Goodwin, who posted 2:15.3 for second place.
Stephen Jones (4.46m) and David Donkin (4.15m) delivered a double success story in the under 15 boys long jump, while Aaron Walwyn cleared a winning height of 1-90m in the under 15 boys pole vault, and Michael Willis (1-53m) and Joseph O’Riordan (1-44m) teamed up for maximum points in the under 15 boys high jump.
Nick Crawshaw, Aamir Walwyn, Aidan Stoakley, Alex Haswell, Danny Meadows, Tom Booth, and Jack Titlow teamed up for the under 17s squad.
Oliver Wedgewood (28.6) and Harry Woodward (29.8) scored a double in the under 13 boys 200m, while Alex Kirk won the under 13 boys 75m hurdles in 16.4, and Leon Langmead (5.02m) and Chris McCartney (4.48m) scored maximum points in the shot.
Oliver Wedgewood won the long jump with 4.25m, and Chris McCartney cleared 1-20m for success in the B high jump, while Yousef Khalifa cleared 1-28m for second spot.
Sam Galley won the under 17 ladies 100m (13.4) and B 200m (27.2), while Bryony Potter won the 300m (41.6).
Emily Fisher won the hammer (12.77m) and javelin (33.97m), and Emily Clarke won the triple jump (9.94m) and finished second in the long jump (4.60m).
Leah Ferrie (13.3) and Alice McMahon (13.4) won the under 15 girls 100m races, and Alice added victory in the B 200m (27.6).
Danielle Erskine posted 13.7 for victory in the under 15 girls 75m hurdles, while Jenny Potter won the B long jump (4.11m), and Alice McMahon won the B high jump (1-25m), alongside Alice Jennings who finished joint first with 1-39m.
Jenna Sheehy won the B javelin (12.88m) and was supported by Karry Broster, Amy Collins, Zoe Smith, and Hannah Stanley.
Kelly Baker hit 7.22m for victory in the under 13 girls shot alongside second placed B team mate Kate Dodd (6.27m).
Olivia Montez-Brown, Lucy Earl, Laura Rigby, Abbie Ritchie, Ellen Collins, and Sally Pickering provided back up in the under 13 girls squad.
Match Score: 1 Southport Waterloo 409 points; 2 West Cheshire 327.5; 3 Wigan 302.5; 4 City of York 280.

Shell Chester Half Marathon

The event, organised by West Cheshire AC, attracted more than 1,800 finishers on Chester Roodee. Paul Sankey, of Liverpool Running Club, was the winner in a time of one hour 11 minutes two seconds.He later revealed that his plan of pulling away into an early lead had proved successful as he achieved pole position from gun to tape.
Paul carved a sizeable lead as he strode his way through the villages of Eccleston and Pulford before heading back into Chester.
He eventually finished 63 seconds clear of runner-up Declan Fahey, of Tullamore Harriers, while Philip Matthews (Chepstow Harriers) finished in third spot with 1:12:31.
Clive West, of Buckley Runners, claimed the first over-40 veteran prize after finishing seventh overall in a time of 1:14:39.
Marilyn Kitching produced a run of 1:24:14 to clinch the first lady award ahead of nearest rival, Amy Glen, representing Liverpool Harriers, who posted 1:25:54, and Louise Cooper (Belgrave Harriers) secured third lady position with a time of 1:27:49.
First past the post for West Cheshire AC, was Andrew Clague who finished 29th in 1:22:29.
Stephen Williams (80th in 1:27:09), Max Woods (219th in 1:34:39), Brian Beattie (377th in 1:40:02), Clive Sykes (470th in 1:43:07), Joanne Fellows (699th in 1:48:35), Peter Weir (799th in 1:50:51), Sacha Kendall Woods (914th in 1:53:45), Jayne Boyle (991st in 1:55:27), Kevan Hearn (1,402nd in 2:07:53), and Brenda Sharp (1,711th in 2:25:05) also competed for West Cheshire.
Wirral AC won the men’s team event from runners-up Buckley Runners, while Tattenhall Runners claimed the women’s team award from runners-up City of Chester Tri Club.
