Press Report: WCAC Host 10k

ENTRIES are still being accepted for next month’s Guilden Sutton 10k Road Race.

Host club West Cheshire Athletic Club will be staging the popular fixture which will come under starter’s orders at 11am on Sunday, September 15.

West Cheshire AC will be hoping to repeat the success they enjoyed when the event was held last year when the purple-vested men’s team grabbed glory and the fixture attracted 225 entries.

Graham Wells (first over-45 man in 35:42), Jon Park (eighth man in 35:50), Steve Fernyhough (second over-40 man in 36:50), and Andrew Clague (second over-55 man in 39:30) combined for success.

Ellis Hancock won the under 20 man’s age group category with a time of 40:04, while Andrew Barratt was third under 20 man in 43:05 and Joy Hickman secured second spot in her over-55 age group with 46:02.

Robert Weston (Shrewsbury AC) won the title with a time of 34:12, ahead of runner-up Mike Fryer (Helsby RC) in 34:25, and third-placed Will Kozer (34:54), while Sarah Hunter (Ackworth Road Runners) won the ladies title in 36:31, ahead of Joanna Marsden (Cheshire Dragons) in 36:51, and South Cheshire Harriers won the ladies team title.

The 10K start is about 500 metres from Guilden Sutton Village Hall (Race HQ, number/chip collection and where the finish is). 

The course consists of two loops, the first 3.2km followed by a larger loop. The first 4.2km undulates, passing twice under and once over the A55 bypass, after which the course is fairly flat.

There is a drinks station at approximately 6.8km where the footpath is wide and, the footpath then takes runners to the lowest point of the course at 8km. There are then a couple of short rises to the finish at the Village Hall. 

The main race is supplemented by a 1.5 miles fun run around the village which starts at 12.15pm and entries will be accepted on the day inside Guilden Sutton Village Hall.

FIXTURES this weekend include the Northern Under 13s, Under 15s, and Under 17s Track and Field Championships at Derby, on Saturday and Sunday, August 10 and 11; and a Trafford AC Open Track and Field Meeting on Sunday; the Welsh Junior Under 13, Under 15, and Under 20 Track and Field Championships, at Swansea Bay Sports Park, on Saturday and Sunday, August 10 and 11; and the Preston 5 Miles and 10 Miles Road Races on Sunday, August 11.

ORMSKIRK and Blackpool are the venues for this Autumn’s two road relay championships.

Edge Hill University, Ormskirk is the setting for the Cheshire and North West Road Relay Championships being held on Sunday, September 8, and Stanley Park will be the setting for the Northern Championships on Saturday, September 21.

THE four-round series of Wirral Multi-Terrain League fixtures has been published. They are: Tuesday, September 3, at Royden Park, Frankby (7pm start); Tuesday, September 10, at Wirral Country Park, Thurstaston (7pm start); Tuesday, September 17, at Harrison Drive, Wallasey (6.30pm start), and Tuesday, September 24, at Arrowe Park (6.30pm start).

HELSBY is the venue for the first round of the Borders Road Running League on September 29.

Press Report: Emma Heading to Peru

EMMA HOLMES has been selected for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team heading to Lima in Peru for the World Athletics Under 20 Track and Field Championships.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club teenager, coached by Victor Oyesola, is named alongside Jessica Astill (Stevenage & North Herts), Kara Dacosta (Trafford), Rebecca Grieve (Woodford Green Essex Ladies), Charlotte Henrich (Invicta East Kent), and Nandy Kihuyu (Sheffield & Dearne) in the 4 x 400m relay squad for the event scheduled to be held between August 27-31

Team Leader, Dan Wagner, said: β€œThe Championships represent a crucial stepping stone for young athletes on their journey to the pinnacle of the sport. This competition not only offers invaluable international experience but also serves as a vital part of their development pathway.

“With the Paris Olympics on the horizon, it’s inspiring to note that the majority of our senior team have previously excelled in age group championships like this.”

DAVE McKAY pocketed several medals at the British Masters Track and Field Championships at Derby’s Moorways Stadium.

The West Cheshire AC veteran powered his way to victory in the over-40 men’s javelin with 49.49m and finished second overall in the M35-M40 age group.

He secured second place in the over-40 men’s weight event and was third in the over-40 men’s hammer with a throw of 40.42m.

SIDNEY SHORROCK posted fourth position in the under 17 women’s shot put at the England Athletics Age Group Track and Field Championships held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Sidney delivered a put of 14.16m, alongside other West Cheshire AC members Mia Johnson, Mae Grant, Beth Manson, Maya Jennings, Holly Bosworth and Ruby Billington.

Mia clocked a new personal best of 12.48 seconds in the under 15 girls 100m and reached the 200m semi-finals where she clocked 26.10 seconds.

Mae achieved 9.60m in the under 15 girls triple jump, while Beth posted 42.06 seconds in her under 15 girls 300m and 27.27 seconds in the 200m.

Maya posted 43.47 seconds in the under 15 girls 300m, while Holly clocked 26.60 seconds in her under 17 women’s 200m, and Ruby cleared 1-49m in the under 15 girls high jump.

Press Report: Shorrock, Holmes on the Case in Birmingham

SIDNEY SHORROCK and Emma Holmes celebrated medal performances at the weekend.

Sidney made her England debut at the Schools International Track and Field Championships held at Carmarthen, while Emma represented West Cheshire Athletic Club at the England Athletics Under 20 Women’s Track and Field Championships staged at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Sidney powered her way to a silver medal in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put Competition at Carmarthen with a put of 13.96m on the back of a new personal best of 14.73m to merit a silver medal at the English Schools Championships the week before.

And Emma secured a bronze medal with a time of 55.06 seconds for her under 20 women’s 400m final at Birmingham.

West Cheshire AC members were also in action at Saturday’s Cheshire Track and Field League third round fixture hosted at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, and Sunday’s final round of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League held at Bebington Oval.

HIGHLIGHTS of Saturday’s Cheshire League fixture included Nathan Owen’s 11.7 seconds victory in the under 15 boys 100m, Seb Whiteley’s winning under 15 boys shot put of 12.86m, Carys Manson’s winning senior women’s 100m victory of 13.3 seconds and Joy Hickman’s club age group 100m club record of 17.0 seconds.

Arwen Thorne won the under 15 girls long jump (4.57m) and shot put (8.30m), and her sister, Violet won the under 13 girls javelin (18.08m), and Nia Manson rounded the under 13 girls 1200m in a winning time of 4:07.6.

Lewis Morris (10:16.0) and Emilia Pyper (11:04.5) won the men’s and women’s 3,000m races at the start of the meeting.

IFUNANYA UGWUOKE starred for West Cheshire AC at Bebington Oval in the final round of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League on Sunday.

Ifunanya was making her debut for the club and celebrated a double success story after clocking a winning time of 10.0 seconds in the under 13 girls 75m and achieving winning distance of 4.37m in the long jump.

Seb Whiteley won the under 15 boys shot put with 13.18m and Violet Thorne hit 7.25m for victory in the under 13 girls shot put competition, while Harriet Beattie won the under 15 girls B 800m in 2:28.0 and Emma Bradley hit 23.33m for victory in the under 15 girls B javelin competition, while Evan Jones won the under 13 boys B long jump with 3.83m, and Poppy McKenna won the under 13 girls B 1200m in 4:18.7.

Press Report: England Vest for Sidney

SIDNEY SHORROCK will make her England debut this weekend in Carmarthen.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club teenager secured a place in this weekend’s Schools International Track and Field Championships after achieving second spot in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put final at the English Schools Track and Field Championships.

Sidney threw a huge new personal best of 14.73m, improving her previous best of 12.97m, at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Sidney was one of eight West Cheshire AC members in action at Birmingham during the two-day fixture.

Ruby Wisbey, Kara Stoll, Seb Whiteley, Beth Manson, Ruby Billington, Alba March and Holly Bosworth were other West Cheshire AC members representing Cheshire at the prestigious event.

Ruby achieved fifth position in the Senior Girls long jump final with 5.58m, while Kara hit 47.56m for sixth spot in the Intermediate Girls hammer, and Seb powered his way to 12.87m for eighth place in the Junior Boys shot put final.

Beth clocked 42.45 seconds in the Junior Girls 300m, while Ruby cleared 1-48m in the Junior Girls high jump; Alba posted 12.45 seconds in the Intermediate Girls 100m, and Holly posted 26.46 seconds in the Intermediate Girls 200m.

Ruby Phillips, of Whitby High School, clocked 39.56 seconds for fourth spot in the Intermediate Girls 300m.

DAVE McKAY’S double success story helped point West Cheshire AC to third spot in Saturday’s Northern League West Premier Division match at Bury.

Dave launched the javelin to a winning mark of 44.66m and hit 10.78m for victory in the shot put alongside B winner, Will Scott, who achieved 8.63m.

The duo were joined in the winners’ circle by Hannah Cowley, Ruby Wisbey, Kara Stoll, Megan Kettle, and Fraser Campbell.

Hannah rounded the 3,000m in a winning time of 10:16.10, while Ruby won the B triple jump with 9.25m, Kara spun the B discus to a winning mark of 24.54m, Megan powered the B hammer to a winning distance of 34.70m, and Fraser negotiated the B 400m hurdles in a winning time of 74.90 seconds.

WCAC Endurance League

Emma Nutt, Clare Angell Mallon and Anest Muller remain 1, 2 and 3 in the women’s endurance league standings at the end of June. David Shearer continues to head the men’s table, followed by Michael Young and Mark Davies. See the Races page for full tables.

As per previous posts, this year’s league will run from January 1st to September 30th, to ensure that the Endurance League champions receive their awards at the WCAC Presentation Evening, which will take place in October this year. In future years, it will run from October 1st to September 30th, in line with other leagues and athletics seasons.

Press Report: More Medals for Macey and Mia

MIA JOHNSON and Macey Jones pocketed medals at the Welsh Schools Track and Field Championships.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club pair impressed during the fixture staged at Cardiff’s Leckwith Stadium on Saturday.

Mia blasted her way to a silver medal after clocking a time of 26.68 seconds in the Under 15 girls 200m.

And Macey secured a bronze medal from the Under 17 ladies 100m with a time of 13.0 seconds.

West Cheshire AC trio Michael Young, Steve Fernyhough and Graham Wells registered podium positions at Sunday’s Cheshire 10 Miles Road Race.

Michael clocked 53 minutes 35 seconds for second place in his over-35 age group and third position overall at the Chester fixture.

Steve achieved third spot in his over-40 age group and eighth position overall in a time of 57:28.

And Graham finished second in his over-50 age category and 11th position overall in a time of 58:56.

West Cheshire AC secured third team position at the Birchwood Ladies 5k Race near Warrington.

Nancy Farmer (second in 19:49), Nia Manson (11th in 21:52), Joy Hickman (second over-55 lady and 23rd overall in 23:39), and Lis Oats (10th over-45 lady and 82nd overall in 30:34) represented the purple and gold-vested outfit at the fixture.

FIXTURES this weekend include the English Schools Track and Field Championships, at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

And West Cheshire AC’s Northern Track and Field League West Premier Division squad will be heading to Bury on Sunday for their third round match.

Press Report: Emma Stars for GB

EMMA HOLMES has starred for Great Britain in Germany.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club teenager teamed up in the women’s 4x400m relay team at the annual Mannheim International Meeting.

Emma combined with Kara Dacosta (Trafford), Jessica Astill (Stevenage & North Herts) and Charlotte Henrich (Invicta East Kent) to clock a time of 3:33.78 which is the third fastest time in the world under 20 rankings and was also a meeting record.

The quartet will be hoping to be part of the World Athletics Under 20 Track and Field Championships scheduled to take place in Lima, Peru, in August.

TEN West Cheshire Athletic Club youngsters will compete at next month’s English Schools Track and Field Championships.

Cosette Wearden will represent Merseyside in the 3,000m, while Emma Holmes, Sebastian Whiteley, Ruby Wisbey, Alba March, Holly Bosworth, Sidney Shorrock, Kara Stoll, Beth Manson and Ruby Billington will represent Cheshire at the prestigious fixture scheduled to be held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, on Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13.

Emma, who represented Great Britain at last month’s Loughborough International Meeting, is currently ranked 11th in the UK under 20 women’s rankings for the 200m and will be aiming to improve on her current personal best of 24.30 seconds when she lines up in the Senior Girls event.

Sebastian, who is currently 19th in the UK under 15 boys shot put rankings, will compete in the Junior Boys competition hoping to improve his personal best of 12.69m.

Ruby Wisbey’s personal best long jump of 5.61m earned her a top-40 place in the UK ranking lists and she will be aiming to match or better that performance in the Senior Girls event.

Alba will taste her first-ever English Schools Championships experience in the Intermediate Girls 100m and will be focusing her sights on improving her personal best of 12.57 seconds.

Holly will be making her second appearance at the event and will be planning to smash her personal best in the Intermediate Girls 200m of 25.8 seconds.

Sidney travels to Birmingham ranked 10th in the UK rankings for the under 17 ladies shot put after hitting a mark of 12.97m earlier this month at Stoke and will be hoping to secure a place in the Intermediate Girls shot put medal rostrum.

Kara is currently sixth in the UK ranking lists for the under 17 ladies hammer after powering her way to a distance of 49.50m earlier this month to strengthen her hopes of a medal in the Intermediate Girls event.

Beth plans to make her mark in the Junior Girls 300m having clocked a personal best of 42.71 seconds to secure 25th spot in the under 15 girls UK ranking list.

And Ruby Billington travels to Birmingham currently listed as third in the UK rankings for the under 15 girls high jump and will be aiming to match or better her personal best of 1-65m achieved earlier this month to secure the Cheshire Schools title at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Ruby Phillips, from Whitby High School, will compete for Cheshire in the Intermediate Girls 300m.

WEST CHESHIRE AC celebrated 12 victories at the penultimate round of the Under 13s and Under 15s Youth Development Track and Field League held at Preston.

Ruby Billington (1-45m) and Evie Whattaker (1-35m) teamed up for maximum points in the under 15 girls high jump.

Arwen Thorne (31.98m) and Emma Bradley (21.19m) combined for success in the under 15 girls javelin.

Mollie Garratt (12.0 seconds) and Poppy McKenna (12.5 seconds) grabbed glory in the under 13 girls 70m hurdles.

Violet Thorne (7.22m) and Amelia Owen (6.90m) teamed up for victories in the under 13 girls shot put.

Mia Johnson posted winning times of 12.7 seconds and 26.2 seconds in the under 15 girls 100m and 200m respectively.

Will Rawson won the under 15 boys B javelin with 27.32m, and Maya Jennings powered her way to a winning time of 42.8 seconds in the under 15 girls B 300m.

JOSEPH MORRISON improved his 800m personal best and set a West Cheshire AC record at the Loughborough British Milers Club meet with a winning time of 1:48.72.

JON PARK, of West Cheshire AC, won the Estes Park Marathon in Colorado, USA, in a time of 2:59:54.

KARA STOLL powered her way to victory on Saturday at Stoke on Trent.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club teenager celebrated a new under 17 women’s personal best throw of 49.50m in the hammer while representing Cheshire at the Inter Counties Mason Trophy Schools Championships.

Kara was backed up in the Cheshire squad at the Northwood Stadium by club mates Sidney Shorrock, Ruby Billington, Seb Whiteley, Maya Jennings, Beth Manson, Dun Xue, Evie Smith, Hayley Holland, Alba March, Holly Bosworth, Freya Stamper-Clark, Dylan Gledhill, Imogen Fives, Seb Hulse, Nathan Owen, and Freya Fitton-Lawless.

Sidney hit a new personal best of 12.97m to finish second in the Intermediate Girls shot put event, while Ruby cleared 1-53m for second spot on countback in the Junior Girls high jump.

Seb Whiteley hit 11.88m for second place in the Junior Boys shot put, while Maya clocked 42.85 seconds for second spot in the Junior Girls 300m, and Beth was first B in the Junior Girls 300m with 42.86 seconds.

Dun nailed 40.37m for fourth place in the Intermediate Boys hammer and spun the discus 26.35m for eighth position, while Evie cleared 1-31m for fifth spot in the B Junior Girls high jump.

Hayley rounded the Intermediate Girls 800m in 2:37.73, while Alba clocked 12.72 seconds in her Intermediate Girls 100m, and Holly posted 26.17 seconds in the Intermediate Girls 200m.

Freya Stamper-Clark hit 17.66m in the Intermediate Girls discus, while Dylan hit 29m in the Intermediate Boys javelin, and Imogen clocked 14.24 seconds in her Junior Girls 100m.

Seb Hulse cleared 1-64m in the Intermediate Boys high jump, while Nathan clocked 12.35 seconds in his Junior Boys 100m, and Freya Fitton-Lawless rounded the Junior Girls 1500m in 5:13.69.

Ruby Phillips, of Whitby High School, won her Intermediate Girls 300m in a time of 40.23 seconds.

DAVE McKAY and Will Scott teamed up for maximum points in the men’s javelin at Litherland on Saturday.

The West Cheshire AC duo impressed at the second round of the Northern Track and Field League West Premier Division match.

Dave launched the javelin to 44.46m and Will won the B event with a throw of 40m, and Dave then won the B discus with 29.22m while Will won by B shot with 8.70m.

The pair were joined in the winners’ circle by Emma Holmes, Hannah Cowley, Ruby Wisbey, Alan Littler, and the women’s 4x100m relay team.

Emma posted a winning 200m time of 24.6 seconds, while Hannah rounded the 1500m in 4:51.7, Ruby achieved 4.53m for success in the B long jump, and Alan cleared 1.60m for victory in the B high jump.

The quartet of Emma, Ruby, Macey Jones and Carys Manson then joined forces to clock a winning time of 50.2 seconds in the 4x100m relay.

Emma Nutt, Clare Angell Mallon and Anest Muller remain 1, 2 and 3 in the women’s endurance league standings at the end of June. David Shearer continues to head the men’s table, followed by Michael Young and Mark Davies. See the Races page for full tables.

As per previous posts, this year’s league will run from January 1st to September 30th, to ensure that the Endurance League champions receive their awards at the WCAC Presentation Evening, which will take place in October this year. In future years, it will run from October 1st to September 30th, in line with other leagues and athletics seasons.

WEST CHESHIRE ATHLETIC CLUB youngsters are aiming to score top marks at Stoke on Trent this weekend.

Sidney Shorrock and Ruby Billington will be planning to build on their impressive form when they represent Cheshire in the Inter Counties Mason Trophy fixture at Northwood Stadium.

Sidney smashed the Cheshire Schools Championships record on Saturday at Ellesmere Port Sports Village with 12.92m for victory in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put.

And Ruby cleared a new personal best and West Cheshire club record clearance of 1.65m for success in the Junior Girls High Jump.

There were 11 other victories for West Cheshire AC members at Saturday’s Cheshire Schools Track and Field Championships.

Kara Stoll powered her way to 49.18m for victory in the Intermediate Girls Hammer, while Reuben Baxter won the Junior Boys Long Jump with 5.18m.

Seb Whiteley hit 13.17m for success in the Junior Boys Shot Put, while Dun Xue nailed 40.99m for victory in the Intermediate Boys Hammer.

Matthew Jones rounded the Senior Boys 1500m in a winning time of 4:19.0, while Imogen Fives posted 13.3 seconds for top spot in the Junior Girls 100m.

Beth Manson clocked 43.6 seconds for victory in the Junior Girls 300m, and Ursula Archer spun the Intermediate Girls discus to a winning mark of 23.11m.

Alba March blasted her way to a 12.9 seconds success in the Intermediate Girls 100m, and Holly Bosworth won the Intermediate Girls 200m title in 27.2 seconds.

Other West Cheshire AC members aiming to make an impact at Stoke on Saturday will be Nathan Owen who clocked a new personal best of 11.9 seconds to win the Junior Boys 100m at the weekend.

Dylan Gledhill in the Junior Boys Javelin, as well as Millie Warren in the Junior Girls 100m, Erin Barnard in the Junior Girls 200m, Maya Jennings (Junior Girls 300m), and Evie Smith (Junior Girls High Jump).

Evan Miller (Intermediate Boys 400m), Seb Hulse (Intermediate Boys High Jump), Hayley Holland (Intermediate Girls 800m), and Freya Stamper-Clark (Intermediate Girls Discus) are other West Cheshire AC members preparing to represent Cheshire at Stoke.

Alex Rutherford pocketed two silver medals with personal bests of 11.4 (100m) and 23.4 (200m) in the Merseyside Schools Championships held at Bebington Oval.
