News Report: Championship medals flow for West Cheshire stars
SISTERS Evie and Freya Whittaker were crowned Northern Champions at Leigh.
The West Cheshire Athletic Club duo produced gold medal-winning high jump performances at the prestigious two-day fixture.
Evie won the under 16 girls title with a leap of 1.63m which equalled her personal best from the week before and followed that up in the 80m hurdles with a time of 12.82 for fifth place in her heat.
Freya completed the family double act with a magnificent personal best of 1.51m and also made the final of the under 14 girls 75m hurdles, clocking 12.94 seconds for seventh spot.
Mia Johnson posted a championship record time of 12.33 seconds for victory in the under 16 girls 100m final and added a silver medal in the 200m with 25.45 seconds.
Dylan Gledhill secured a silver medal in the under 16 boys javelin with a personal best throw of 47.32m, and added 40.24 seconds in the 300m for seventh place in his heat, and was sixth in his 200m heat with a personal best of 25.00 seconds.
Dan Crosby cleared 1.73m to pocket a bronze medal in the under 16 boys high jump, and posted 25.12 seconds for fifth spot in his 200m heat.
Lucas Sawyer clocked a personal best of 4:31.37 for a bronze medal in the under 14 boys 1500m.
Maya Jennings clocked 42.69 seconds for a bronze medal in the under 16 girls 300m final.
And Violet Thorne powered her way to a personal best throw of 31.96m for a bronze medal in the under 16 girls discus.
Reggie Medland was fifth with a new personal best of 43.75 seconds in the under 16 boys 300m hurdles final.
Amber Billington posted 49.93 seconds in the under 16 girls 300m hurdles final.
LUCCA TARDIVEL represented West Cheshire at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff.
Lucca reached the 100m and 200m A finals at the event which incorporated the Under 18 European Trials and pocketed a Welsh bronze 100m medals and Welsh silver 200m medal.
Ella Bibby reached the 200m and 400m finals, while Josh Stirling qualified for the 200m B final, and Jacob Gardner competed in both the 100m (11.11 seconds) and 200m (23.09 seconds) B finals.
Imogen Pughe clocked 59.44 seconds for sixth spot in her senior women’s 400m final after posting 58.35 seconds for third place in her qualifying heat.
Lewis Parsons achieved a new 400m personal best of 50.47 seconds for fourth position in his heat.
SOPHIE MULCASTER has won the European Biathle Championship title in Portugal.
The West Cheshire member represented Great Britain at the event which featured an 800m run, 200m swim and 800m run.
MATTHEW DOUGLASS won the latest Wirral Seaside 5k Race, at Leasowe, in a time of 16.03.

The first round will be held on October 10, at Woodbank Park, Stockport; and other fixtures will take place on November 14 at Sherdley Park, St. Helens; November 28 at Sefton Park, Liverpool; January 16 at Tatton Park, Knutsford; and February 13 at Heaton Park, Manchester.
THE English Road Running Association will stage the 6 and 4 Stage Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham, on Saturday, October 3, and the 12 and 6 Stage Road Relays, at Sutton Park, Birmingham, on Saturday, April 17.
THE English Cross Country Association Cross Country Relays, at Mansfield, Nottingham, will be held on Saturday, October 31, while the English Cross Country Association National Championships, will be held at Thoresby Park, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday, February 20, and the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships and Cross Challenge Final, will be held at Nottingham, on Saturday, March 13.
