Press Report: National success, indoors and out

GEORGE HYDE powered his way to a podium place for the second time in as many weeks.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club thrower pocketed a bronze medal in the under 20 men’s shot put at the England Athletics Indoor Championships held in Sheffield with a club record distance of 15.87m.

Hyde also bagged a bronze medal with a put of 15.23m the week before when he represented Loughborough University at the British Universities and Colleges Indoor Championships at Sheffield.Β 

Hyde was joined in Sheffield at the weekend by West Cheshire AC members Ruby Wisbey and Maddi Mercer. 

Wisbey achieved a new under 15 girls 60m hurdles personal best time of 9.42 seconds, long-jumped 4.83m, and posted 8.34 seconds in her 60m heat, while Mercer clocked 8.38 seconds in her 60m heat.

JOSEPH MORRISON represented West Cheshire Athletic Club at the British Indoor Championships at Glasgow and posted a time of 1:51:07 for third spot in his 800m heat.

LUKE PARKER produced a top-20 finish at the English National Cross Country Championships.

The youngster battled his way around the tough wet and muddy 3km course at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park for 13th position in the under 13 boys race with a time of 15:09, supported by West Cheshire AC team mates Reece Munro (144th in 16:52), and Daniel Walker (225th in 17:38).

Carys Roberts achieved 23rd position with a time of 20:16 in the 4km under 15 girls race, while Lily Moorhouse was 120th with 36:47 in the 6km under 20 women’s race.

Jessica Lark clocked 17:23 for 91st position in the 3km under 13 girls race, backed up by Sophie Haslam (105th in 17:36), Ruby Phillips (169th in 18:23), Aimee Phillips (201st in 18:52), and Ruby Carlile (276th in 19:56) to earn 15th team position.

Sion Roberts clocked 42:25 for 94th spot in the 10km under 20 men’s race, backed up by Jac Goodall (161st in 47:06), and Rory Willson (189th in 51:35).

Sammy Hollins posted 19:08 for 126th position in the 4km under 15 boys race, while Will Wright was 176th with 27:17 in the 6km under 17 men’s race.

Dave Alexander rounded the 12km senior men’s race for 598th spot in 56:09, supported by Andrew Clague (823rd in 59:49), Andy Carter (1084th in 63:53), and Jon Moorhouse (1662nd in 83:23).

NEIL HERSHAW was first over-55 man in a time of 66:22 at the Rhyl 10 Miles Road Race, ahead of West Cheshire AC team mates Cathryn Whalley (fifth over-50 lady in 88:17), and Isabel Robertson (sixth over-55 lady in 94:49). 

MEGAN WHITE and Sara Pearson posted new personal bests at the Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting.

White rounded the under 15 girls 600m in 1:52:48, and West Cheshire AC team mate Pearson hit a new under 15 girls shot put best of 9.61m, as well as adding a 4.44m long jump, and 1:57.19 for 600m.

Other West Cheshire AC members in action included Fergus Garland who posted 25.47 seconds for his under 15 boys 200m and Uzezi Onomerike who clocked 1:58:37 for his 600m.

FIXTURES this weekend include the Marches School 10k Race at Oswestry on Sunday (9am start); the Trafford 10k Road Race at Partington Leisure Centre, on Sunday (9.30am start), and the Cloud Nine Hill Race at Congleton on Sunday (11am start).
