Mother and daughter Debra and Danielle Erskine have proved that West Cheshire Athletic Club is a true family club.The duo contributed towards their clubs haul of 64 medals at the Cheshire AA Track and Field Championships held at Stretford, Manchester.
Debra powered her way to victory in the womens hammer with a throw of 21.86m and Danielle grabbed glory in the womens long jump with 5.36m.
They were two of 32 gold medal-winning West Cheshire performances during a memorable two-days at the Longford Park Stadium.
Multi-talented Evie Tipping pocketed four gold medals from the under 13 girls 150m (22.56), shot put (8.29m), javelin (12.23m), and discus (20.09m) while her sister, Maisie, pocketed five medals which featured two new personal bests in the under 15 girls 100m (13.32) and 200m (26.94).
Dave McKay produced a hat-trick of victories in the mens hammer (44.62m), discus (30.96m) and javelin (60.40m).
Abi Pawlett, Alice McMahon, Will Rattray, and Ewan Bradley all celebrated double gold medal-winning performances.
Abi secured a double success story in the under 13 girls 75m (10.54 seconds) and 75m hurdles (12.23), while Alice celebrated a womens sprint double with victories in the 100m (12.47) and 200m (25.49); Will hit winning marks in the under 15 boys hammer (39.30m) and discus (28.30m); and Ewan scored success in the under 15 boys 80m hurdles (13.28) and pole vault (2-10m).
George Hyde rewrote the county record books after powering the under 15 boys shot to a new championship best of 14.14m for victory.
Issy Clarke lifted the Marie Birkenhead Mile Cup after clocking a winning time of 5:04.4 in the under 15 girls 1500m.
Mark Davies rounded the mens 3,000m steeplechase to win the Cheshire title in 11:22.5, while Matthew Pagan delivered success in the under 20 men\\\’s 400m.
Georgia Barlow bagged glory from the under 17 ladies 100m (12.75) and missed out on top spot in the 200m by 0.2 seconds with a time of 25.97.
Tamsin O\\\’Keefe rounded the under 13 girls 800m in a winning time of two minutes 27.65 seconds, and Harvey Tegg posted a winning time of 2:26.59 in the under 13 boys 800m final.
Anna Crayston secured the under 13 girls long jump gold medal with 4.53m, while Ethan Milligan (1-70m), Alan Littler (1-65m), and Lauren Jones (1-25m) clinched the under 17, senior mens, and under 13 girls high jump titles.
Ben Grinter (24.69m), Emma Howe (37.88m), and Sophie Percival (39.55m) landed the under 13 boys, under 15 girls, and under 20 womens javelin titles, and Ivor Smith won the under 13 boys shot put gold medal with 4.27m.
Silver medalists included Ali Burkett (61.90 in the womens 400m, Alex Kearns (54.68 in the under 17 mens 400m), Liam Farrell (2:30.58 in under 13 boys 800m), and Sam Paton (13.17 in under 15 boys 100m), Daniel Berg (33.27m in under 15 boys hammer), Isobel Griffin Morris (34.85m in under 17 womens discus), and Ethan Butler (1-15m in under 13 boys high jump). Cameron Weaver rounded the under 17 womens 3,000m in 9:22.32 for a bronze medal and other West Cheshire athletes to post third places included Adam Howe (28.28 in under 13 boys 200m), Daniel Pagan (46.37 in under 15 boys 300m), and Sonny Dean (2:17.64 in under 15 boys 800m).

Joe Shellhorn,President, West Cheshire AC.
We regret to announce that Joe Shellhorn passed away peacefully at home overnight of April 2/3, aged 86.
He was awaiting a heart valve replacement, which sadly did not take place in time.
Joe, who was born in Doncaster, was widely known in athletics largely due to his role as a Field Events official.
Joe came into athletics in the early 1970’s due to his two daughters’ participation in the sport while at school.
Moving to Chester in 1972 from Cheltenham, along with his wife Ruth, they soon became involved in helping and officiating. They rapidly became known as accomplished officials and Joe mentored many officials over the years he was involved in athletics.
Joe was due to receive the British Athletics long service award in recognition of his 40 years’ service as an official at the annual Officials’ Conference on April 19, 2015.
Although Joe’s wife sadly passed away in 1988, he continued his involvement in the sport and officiated at all levels.
He was involved with his local club, which is now West Cheshire AC, taking on a number of committee roles throughout his time in Chester and was its current president.
For many years he was the officials secretary for Cheshire County AA and was instrumental in ensuring that the county and its clubs, recruited officials.
He was also the current President of the Cheshire County AA. Joe enjoyed the sport immensely and made many friends in all parts of the World.
He was just as happy at a local schools event as being at an International level meeting. On a number of occasions he was at the World Master’s T&F Championships in a variety of countries working with the technical team of officials – with many amusing stories to tell.
We will miss him greatly and we send our condolences to his family.
The words sent by Malcolm Rogers on learning of the news sum up Joe : : “Sad news indeed. Joe was a mentor to hundreds of officials and was one of life’s absolute gentlemen”.
Joe’s funeral will be held at Blacon Crematorium, Chester on Friday, April 24, at 2pm.
There will be a celebration of his life after the service at a venue to be decided.
