Tom Tops Team in Tattenhall

TOM BOOTH headed the West Cheshire AC charge at the fifth round of the Borders Road Running League.

The distance running ace posted 35 minutes six seconds for 14th spot after negotiating the undulating 9.8km race which started and finished at Tattenhall.

Booth, who finished sixth in a 300-strong field at the Dentdale 14.2 miles race in the Lake District the week before and has recently competed in ultra distance mountain events in New Zealand, was backed up by nine other purple-vested members who finished in the top 72 places.

The trio of under 20 junior Ethan Greenland (36:23), John Parlevliet (36:26) and Graham Wells finished 26th, 27th, and 28th respectively.

Under 20 junior Christy Mageean clocked 37:10 for 35th position, and he was followed home by Ian Gloyne-Phillips (40th in 37:26), Andrew Clague (55th in 38:33), Andy Carter (59th in 38:55), Rob Freeman (71st in 39:43) and Joe Foy (72nd in 39:45).

Mark Davies clocked 40:10 for 76th spot, ahead of Dave Tiernan (77th in 40:19), Tony Woodall (83rd in 40:30), David Tait (85th in 40:42), Neil Carter (95th in 41:32), Bob Benson (103rd in 41:54), Matthew Smith (108th in 42:20), and new member Richard Hunt (163rd in 47:11) who experienced his first Borders League race.

Anest Muller was the first lady finisher for West Cheshire, posting eighth place with 40:54, ahead of Ann-Marie Tait (53rd lady in 50:59), and Pam Ackroyd (60th lady in 52:52) who was making her club debut.

WEST CHESHIRE AC duo Abigail Pawlett and Anna Crayston both secured new personal bests at the Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting.

Pawlett posted a new under 15 girls 60m best of 8.38 seconds and added 9.55 seconds in the 60m hurdles, while Crayston achieved a new under 15 girls long jump best of 4.87m and clocked 44.86 seconds in the 300m.

WEST CHESHIRE AC hosted the Chester Primary Schools Cross Country Championships at Ellesmere Port Sports Village which attracted 22 schools.

Kings School won the team event, with Saughall All Saints finishing runners-up, and Belgrave and Overleigh St Marys being joint third.

22 schools entered, with 8 schools entering full teams and therefore eligible for the overall team award.

WEST CHESHIRE AC hosted the annual Year Seven Schools Cross Country Competition between Cheshire and Merseyside at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Isaac Tait, from West Cheshire AC, won the boys race and helped his county win the team event, while Ellen Mary Kearney, from Merseyside, won the girls race and helped her county win the team event.

Youngsters in County Set

SIX West Cheshire Athletic Club members have represented their county in Birmingham.

Lucia Pyne, Isaac Tait, Sonny Dean, Rory Willson, and sisters Issy and Katie Clarke all competed at the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships held at Cofton Park.

Pyne experienced her first appearance at the fixture in the under 13 girls age group and clocked 14 minutes 29 seconds for 211th position and helped Cheshire finished eighth in the team event.

Tait posted 13:02 for 167th place in the under 13 boys event and the Cheshire team finished in 21st position.

Dean rounded the under 15 boys course in a time of 18:28 for 227th spot, ahead of Willson who claimed 20:10 for 293rd place.

Issy achieved 88th position in the under 15 girls race with a time of 18:44 and helped the Cheshire team finish in 11th position.

And Katie clocked 24 minutes for 165th spot in the under 17 womens race, while her Cheshire team earned 15th place.

Carol Parsons, from Ellesmere Port Running Club, finished 55th with 32:55 in the senior womens race, while Ellesmere Port-based Kate Titlow finished 114th in 34:47, and Georgina Ross (Tattenhall) posted 36:52 for 185th position.

EMILY MISANTONI represented West Cheshire AC at Sheffield in the England Athletics Indoor Combined Events Championships.

The talented all-rounder finished eighth in the Northern under 15 girls Championships and 24th overall with 2,651 points.

Misantoni clocked 10.54 seconds for the 60m hurdles, long jumped 4.38m, hit 7.63m in the shot, cleared 1-44m in the high jump, and rounded the 800m in two minutes 28.74 seconds.

MARK DAVIES, of West Cheshire AC, clocked 36:36 for 223rd position at the Trafford 10k Road Race.

ROSEMARY ROGERS, of West Cheshire AC, posted 2:01:50 for third place in her over-65 womens age group at the Liverpool Half Marathon. Bob Freeman finished second over-60 man, in 1:28:07, and Mark Povey was 161st over-45 man in 1:54:13.

DAVE ALEXANDER, of West Cheshire AC, crossed the line first at the Ellesmere Port 5km parkrun, with a time of 19 minutes 19 seconds. He was joined at the Whitby Park event by club mates Rob Freeman (fifth in 21:12), Julian Tegg (eighth in 22:22), and Tony Kennedy (21st in 25:17).

ETHAN GREENLAND, of West Cheshire AC, finished second at the Delamere 5km parkrun in a time of 18 minutes 25 seconds, ahead of Mimi Jayaram (eighth lady in 24:01).

Fantastic Four at Sportcity

FOUR West Cheshire Athletic Club youngsters have been crowned regional champions.

Anna Crayston, Dave Dentith, Jac Goodall and Josh Ford all pocketed gold medals while representing Cheshire at the North West Sportshall Athletics Finals held at Sportcity, Manchester.

Crayston clocked a winning time of one minute 12 seconds to claim success in the under 13 girls two lap race and added a silver medal with 6.80m in the standing triple jump.

Dentith, who finished second overall in the under 15 boys all-rounder competition, scored 90 for top spot in the speed bounce and secured silver medals in both the four lap race (41.8 seconds) and standing long jump (2.40m).

Goodall claimed victory in the under 15 boys shot put with 10.18m, and Ford finished joint first in the under 15 boys two lap with a time of 20.0 seconds.

Other West Cheshire AC medallists included Abi Pawlett, who finished runner-up in both the under 13 girls two lap (21.5) and shot put (9.46m); Nathan Partington, who claimed silver and bronze medals in the under 13 boys standing triple jump (6.58m) and two lap (21.1) respectively; and Harvey Tegg, who was joint second in the under 13 boys six lap race with 1:12.6.

Other West Cheshire AC members in action included Tamsin O`Keefe, who was fourth in the under 13 girls standing triple jump with 6.60m and fifth in the six lap race with 1:14.7, and Emma Ashcroft, who was joint fourth in the speed bounce with a score of 76.

Tom Weaver finished fourth in the under 13 boys standing triple jump (6.27m) and sixth in the two lap race (21.7), while Michael Maxwell was seventh in the vertical jump (46), and Ethan Butler finished eighth in the shot put (5.05m).

Ewan Brandon finished joint fourth in the under 15 boys standing long jump with 2.35m, and added 7.92m in the shot and 20.6 in the two lap race, while Beth McMahon was joint fifth in the under 15 girls two lap race (22.0), and added 2.14m in the standing long jump and 5.90m in the shot.

SION ROBERTS and Issy Clarke produced impressive performances for Cheshire at the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

The West Cheshire AC duo negotiated the testing Wollaton Park course at Nottingham after qualifying displays at the county fixture earlier this year.

Roberts (72nd in 16:37) was fourth home for Cheshire in the junior boys race and helped his team finished third, while Clarke was second home for Cheshire after posting 14:29 for 95th position in the intermediate girls race.

Issy\\\’s older sister, Katie, clocked 19 minutes for 132nd place to be fifth home for the Cheshire senior girls team, and Sonny Dean was 127th in 16:56 in the junior boys race. Former West Cheshire member Cameron Weaver finished 65th for 22:54 in the senior boys race.

WEST CHESHIRE AC duo Mark Davies and Ethan Greenland celebrated success at the two local parkrun races.

Davies won the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun in 20 minutes 16 seconds, and Greenland won the Delamere 5k parkrun in a time of 18:08, just nine seconds clear of runner-up Ethan Ackroyd from Deeside AAC.

Other West Cheshire finishers at Delamere included Isaac Tait (eighth in 19:50), Rory Willson (12th in 20:28), Patrick Tait (38th in 22:40), Charlie Clarke (98th in 25:31), Anne-Marie Tait (14th lady in 26:10), Pam Ackroyd (16th lady in 26:35), Adam Carlile (150th in 27:41), and Clare Mallon (82nd lady in 32:50).

Davies was joined at Ellesmere Port by third-placed West Cheshire clubmate Rob Freeman (21:35), Henry Robinson (10th in 23:40), and Dave Alexander (11th in 23:41).

Cross-country at home and away

SIX youngsters secured a clean sweep of three title wins at the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series on Saturday.

Eleanor Williams, Jessica Lark, Reece Munro, Carys Roberts, Holly Weedall, and Charlotte Walker all celebrated success at the final round in their respective age group races held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track.

Williams, from Kings School Chester, won the year three girls title with a winning time of three minutes 24 seconds, six seconds clear of runner-up Ella Hims (Childer Thornton), while Cerys Rowlands (Woodlands) posted 3:41 for third spot.

Lark, from Upton Heath, won the year four girls title with a time of 3:29 at the final round, ahead of runner-up Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House) who clocked 3:33, and third-placed Ruby Carlile (Guilden Sutton) with 3:38.

Munro, from Eccleston, posted 3:02 for victory in the year four boys race, ahead of William Line from Tarporley (3:15) and Ben Grantham of Bishop Wilson school(3:18) who finished second and third respectively.

Roberts, from Tarporley, clocked 5:36 for victory in the year five girls race, ahead of runner-up Jessica Hennessey (Newton) with 5:47, and Martha Willetts (Tarvin) who was third in 6:01.

Weedall, from Cuddington, secured success in the year six girls race in 5:01, ahead of Imogen Pughe of Childer Thornton (5:34) and Sophie Grainger (Boughton Heath, 5:41) who were second and third respectively.

And Walker, from Tarporley, won the year eight girls race in 12:58, ahead of her second-placed sister, Nina, in 13:40, and third-placed Mimi Jayaram (Abbey Gate) who clocked 14:31.

Charlie Beyeler (Kings, Chester), won the year three boys race in 3:19, ahead of runner-up Joseph Ireland (Mill View) who won the overall title, and third-placed Henry Jones (St Lukes), who was runner-up overall.

Fergus Garland (Childer Thornton) won the year five boys race in 5:22 and finished second overall behind Zak Dean, who had won the first three series races, while Nathan Robinson (Helsby Hillside) posted 5:32 for second spot and James Shuker (Eaton) was third in 5:34.

Ted Bolton, from Christleton, won the year six boys title after winning the final race in 5:12, ahead of runner-up William Sutcliffe (Mill View) in 5:14, and third-placed Henry Robinson (Waverton) in 5:31.

Liam Farrell (Neston) won the final year eight boys race in the series with a time of 12:21, and finished joint overall winner with Jack Hollins (Upton) who clocked 12:34 for second spot in the final round, and Aaron Scott (Neston) was third in 13:52.

John McGarrell (Upton) won the final year seven boys race in 8:35, ahead of overall joint title winner, Ethan Dawson (Upton) who finished second at the final round, ahead of Simon Davies (Upton) in third spot.

Lucia Pyne (West Kirby Grammar) won the year seven girls race in 9:08, ahead of second-placed Abigail Cartwright (Wirral Girls) in 10:03.

WILLIAM WRIGHT (131st in 14:33) spearheaded the West Cheshire AC under-13 boys team to 24th position at the English National Cross Country Championships at Donington Park, Leicestershire.

He was backed-up by Isaac Tait (152nd in 14:44), Harvey Tegg (215th in 15:08), Dylan Bugg (270th in 15:33), and Ethan Butler (348th in 16:16).

Sion Roberts (156th in 18:51) headed the under-15 boys team to 31st position, supported by Jac Goodall (171st in 18:56), Rory Willson (331st in 21:38), and Patrick Tait (356th in 23:10).

Lily Moorhouse completed the under-15 girls race in 23:43 for 340th position, while Andrew Clague (837th in 57:56), and Julian Tegg (1307th in 65:11) finished the senior mens race.

ALEX STANIFORTH (ninth in 19:15) was the first West Cheshire AC finisher at the Delamere 5k parkrun. Clubmate Rob Freeman (fifth in 21:07) was first West Cheshire finisher at the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun.

Williams has won all three rounds so far in the year three girls age group, and faces competition from Ella Hims (Childer Thornton) and Cerys Rowlands (Woodlands) who are currently second and third respectively.

Jessica Lark, of Upton Heath, will be eyeing a third victory in the year four girls race, but will be tracked by other medal contenders Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House), Darcey Fay (Helsby Hillside), Ruby Carlile (Guilden Sutton), and Isabella Rimmer (Overleigh St Marys).

Joseph Ireland, from Mill View, will be aiming to complete his campaign in the year three boys race with a third race win, but faces competition from Henry Copelin of Eaton, Henry Jones (St Lukes), and Joshua Oates (Newton).

Reece Munro of Eccleston heads the year four boys standings ahead of the final round, where he will face competition from closest rivals Ben Grantham (Bishop Wilson), William Line (Tarporley), and Alex Gray (Newton).

Holly Weedall, from Cuddington, is one win away from claiming the year six girls title after grabbing victories at the last two rounds.

Her nearest opponents are Childer Thornton duo Imogen Pughe and Lara Battersby, Sophie Grainger from Boughton Heath, and Stephanie Jones from Christleton.

Ted Bolton, also from Christleton, and William Sutcliffe (Mill View) are joint leaders in the year six boys age group, ahead of nearest challengers Thomas Doherty (The Firs) and Henry Robinson from Waverton.

Dylan Bugg (Tarporley), Upton High pair Ethan Dawson and Matthew Holtom, and Ethan Butler (Christleton) will battle it out for the year seven boys title.

Charlotte Walker (Tarporley) is lining up a third win to secure success in the year eight girls event, but faces competition from her sister, Nina, Mimi Jayaram of Abbeygate, and Emily Page from Christleton.

Harvey Tegg (Wirral Grammar) tops the year eight boys standings ahead of respective Upton, Christleton and Neston duos Jack Hollins and Matthew Douglass, Dylan Moore and James Moore, and Liam Farrell and Aaron Scott, who are all in contention for medals.

ROB FREEMAN clocked 21 minutes 26 seconds for third spot at the Ellesmere Port 5km parkrun held at Whitby Park, ahead of other West Cheshire AC finishers Harvey Tegg (sixth in 22:20), Fergus Garland (ninth in 23:14), Imogen Pughe (first lady in 24:11), Louis Tegg (18th in 25:41), Tony Kennedy (21st in 26:00), Rosemary Rogers (25th in 26:38), and Brian Beattie (35th in 28:58).

RICHARD FARLEY (fifth in 18:01) was the first West Cheshire AC finisher at the Delamere 5km parkrun, ahead of club mates Ethan Greenland (sixth in 18:09), Christy Mageean 10th in 18:49), Andrew Carter (17th in 19:41), Sion Roberts (22nd in 20:17), Ellie Robinson (fifth lady in 23:23), Adam Carlile (61st in 23:29), Henry Robinson (63rd in 23:34), Dave Alexander (64th in 23:34), and Clare Mallon (10th lady in 24:31).

THE Inter-counties Seniors Fell Running Championships take place on Saturday, May 14, at Ras Moel Eilio, Llanberis.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will start their track and field league season on Sunday, April 10, at Bebington Oval in the first round of the Cheshire League, and other rounds will be held at Crewe on Saturday, June 4; at Warrington on Sunday, July 10; and at Colwyn Bay on Sunday, September 4.

FIXTURES this weekend include the English National Cross-country Championships at Castle Donington, on Saturday, and the Welsh National Cross Country Championships at Singleton Park, Swansea.

The British Indoor Track and Field Championships take place on Saturday and Sunday at Sheffield, and the Ruthin 5k and 10k Races take place on Sunday (9.15am start).

King George crowned at Sheffield

GEORGE HYDE has been crowned a national champion.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club member hit a winning mark of 14.34m to claim the under 17 mens shot put title at the England Athletics Indoor Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Hyde, who is experiencing his first year in the under 17 age group, finished well clear of runner-up David Todd, from Chester le Street, who achieved 13.79m, and third-placed Joseph Connelly, from Carlisle Aspatria, who hit 12.26.

Hyde, who won the Northern Indoor shot put title in Sheffield last month, is now looking forward to the start of the outdoor track and field campaign.

WEST CHESHIRE AC celebrated a hat-trick of title victories at the Village Bakery Half Marathon staged at Wrexham.

Alex Staniforth, Joe Foy and Richard Batterham all grabbed age group victories at the 13.1 miles event which attracted 1,000 entrants.Staniforth, who survived the earthquake on Mount Everest last year, won the under 21 year old age category prize with a time of one hour 27 minutes 46 seconds. Foy secured success in the over 60 age group with 1:28:20, just 17 seconds ahead of club mate Bob Freeman who finished runner up in the same age category.And Batterham won the over-65 age group category with a time of 1:39:55, while Brian Beattie finished second in his over-70 age group in a time of 1:54:49.

The West Cheshire charge was spearheaded by David Tait who took another step in his preparation for the Rotterdam Marathon in April by clocking 1:21:27 for 10th spot in his over-45 age group and 57th position overall. Robert Little posted 1:22:51 to finish 75th overall and 43rd in the senior mens age group, while Andy Carter clocked 1:24:57 for 17th place in his over-45 age group and 109th overall, ahead of Jack Gannon (64th senior man and 157th overall in 1:26:20). Mark Davies posted 1:30:33 for 200th position, ahead of Neil Carter (24th in his over-50 age group and 258th overall in 1:35:18), Ben McKean (261st in 1:35:43), Vince Hodges (48th in his over-45 age group and 312th overall in 1:39:55), and Clare Mallon (27th in her over-40 age category and 121st lady in 1:53:20)

ROB FREEMAN finished third in the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun at Whitby Park in a time of 21:56. Other West Cheshire AC finishers included Anest Muller (first lady in 22:57), Rory Willson (eight in 23:14), Abigail Cartwright (third lady in 26:28), and Tony Kennedy (16th in 26:40).

ETHAN GREENLAND, of West Cheshire AC, posted 18:42 for third position at the Delamere 5k parkrun, ahead of club mates Sion Roberts (10th in 19:55), Patrick Tait (25th in 21:51), Charlie Weaver (27th in 21:56), Henry Robinson (39th in 22:46), Megan McEveley (13th lady in 25:03), Adam Carlile (97th in 25:36), Kay Hayes (23rd lady in 26:40), Anne-Marie Tait (24th lady in 26:44), Lisa Davies (56th lady in 29:38), and Ellie Robinson (57th lady in 29:38).
