SIX youngsters secured a clean sweep of three title wins at the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series on Saturday.

Eleanor Williams, Jessica Lark, Reece Munro, Carys Roberts, Holly Weedall, and Charlotte Walker all celebrated success at the final round in their respective age group races held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track.

Williams, from Kings School Chester, won the year three girls title with a winning time of three minutes 24 seconds, six seconds clear of runner-up Ella Hims (Childer Thornton), while Cerys Rowlands (Woodlands) posted 3:41 for third spot.

Lark, from Upton Heath, won the year four girls title with a time of 3:29 at the final round, ahead of runner-up Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House) who clocked 3:33, and third-placed Ruby Carlile (Guilden Sutton) with 3:38.

Munro, from Eccleston, posted 3:02 for victory in the year four boys race, ahead of William Line from Tarporley (3:15) and Ben Grantham of Bishop Wilson school(3:18) who finished second and third respectively.

Roberts, from Tarporley, clocked 5:36 for victory in the year five girls race, ahead of runner-up Jessica Hennessey (Newton) with 5:47, and Martha Willetts (Tarvin) who was third in 6:01.

Weedall, from Cuddington, secured success in the year six girls race in 5:01, ahead of Imogen Pughe of Childer Thornton (5:34) and Sophie Grainger (Boughton Heath, 5:41) who were second and third respectively.

And Walker, from Tarporley, won the year eight girls race in 12:58, ahead of her second-placed sister, Nina, in 13:40, and third-placed Mimi Jayaram (Abbey Gate) who clocked 14:31.

Charlie Beyeler (Kings, Chester), won the year three boys race in 3:19, ahead of runner-up Joseph Ireland (Mill View) who won the overall title, and third-placed Henry Jones (St Lukes), who was runner-up overall.

Fergus Garland (Childer Thornton) won the year five boys race in 5:22 and finished second overall behind Zak Dean, who had won the first three series races, while Nathan Robinson (Helsby Hillside) posted 5:32 for second spot and James Shuker (Eaton) was third in 5:34.

Ted Bolton, from Christleton, won the year six boys title after winning the final race in 5:12, ahead of runner-up William Sutcliffe (Mill View) in 5:14, and third-placed Henry Robinson (Waverton) in 5:31.

Liam Farrell (Neston) won the final year eight boys race in the series with a time of 12:21, and finished joint overall winner with Jack Hollins (Upton) who clocked 12:34 for second spot in the final round, and Aaron Scott (Neston) was third in 13:52.

John McGarrell (Upton) won the final year seven boys race in 8:35, ahead of overall joint title winner, Ethan Dawson (Upton) who finished second at the final round, ahead of Simon Davies (Upton) in third spot.

Lucia Pyne (West Kirby Grammar) won the year seven girls race in 9:08, ahead of second-placed Abigail Cartwright (Wirral Girls) in 10:03.

WILLIAM WRIGHT (131st in 14:33) spearheaded the West Cheshire AC under-13 boys team to 24th position at the English National Cross Country Championships at Donington Park, Leicestershire.

He was backed-up by Isaac Tait (152nd in 14:44), Harvey Tegg (215th in 15:08), Dylan Bugg (270th in 15:33), and Ethan Butler (348th in 16:16).

Sion Roberts (156th in 18:51) headed the under-15 boys team to 31st position, supported by Jac Goodall (171st in 18:56), Rory Willson (331st in 21:38), and Patrick Tait (356th in 23:10).

Lily Moorhouse completed the under-15 girls race in 23:43 for 340th position, while Andrew Clague (837th in 57:56), and Julian Tegg (1307th in 65:11) finished the senior mens race.

ALEX STANIFORTH (ninth in 19:15) was the first West Cheshire AC finisher at the Delamere 5k parkrun. Clubmate Rob Freeman (fifth in 21:07) was first West Cheshire finisher at the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun.

GEORGE HYDE has been crowned a national champion.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club member hit a winning mark of 14.34m to claim the under 17 mens shot put title at the England Athletics Indoor Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Hyde, who is experiencing his first year in the under 17 age group, finished well clear of runner-up David Todd, from Chester le Street, who achieved 13.79m, and third-placed Joseph Connelly, from Carlisle Aspatria, who hit 12.26.

Hyde, who won the Northern Indoor shot put title in Sheffield last month, is now looking forward to the start of the outdoor track and field campaign.

WEST CHESHIRE AC celebrated a hat-trick of title victories at the Village Bakery Half Marathon staged at Wrexham.

Alex Staniforth, Joe Foy and Richard Batterham all grabbed age group victories at the 13.1 miles event which attracted 1,000 entrants.Staniforth, who survived the earthquake on Mount Everest last year, won the under 21 year old age category prize with a time of one hour 27 minutes 46 seconds. Foy secured success in the over 60 age group with 1:28:20, just 17 seconds ahead of club mate Bob Freeman who finished runner up in the same age category.And Batterham won the over-65 age group category with a time of 1:39:55, while Brian Beattie finished second in his over-70 age group in a time of 1:54:49.

The West Cheshire charge was spearheaded by David Tait who took another step in his preparation for the Rotterdam Marathon in April by clocking 1:21:27 for 10th spot in his over-45 age group and 57th position overall. Robert Little posted 1:22:51 to finish 75th overall and 43rd in the senior mens age group, while Andy Carter clocked 1:24:57 for 17th place in his over-45 age group and 109th overall, ahead of Jack Gannon (64th senior man and 157th overall in 1:26:20). Mark Davies posted 1:30:33 for 200th position, ahead of Neil Carter (24th in his over-50 age group and 258th overall in 1:35:18), Ben McKean (261st in 1:35:43), Vince Hodges (48th in his over-45 age group and 312th overall in 1:39:55), and Clare Mallon (27th in her over-40 age category and 121st lady in 1:53:20)

ROB FREEMAN finished third in the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun at Whitby Park in a time of 21:56. Other West Cheshire AC finishers included Anest Muller (first lady in 22:57), Rory Willson (eight in 23:14), Abigail Cartwright (third lady in 26:28), and Tony Kennedy (16th in 26:40).

EMMA HOWE and George Hyde celebrated success at the 2016 West Cheshire Athletic Club presentation evening.

The duo and other members were presented with trophies by invited guest, double Great Britain Paralympian footballer, Matthew Dimbylow, at Cheshire View, Christleton.

Howe won the womens cup after enjoying a memorable 12 months which featured under 15 girls javelin title victories at the Northern Championships and Cheshire Championships, and medal displays at the England Athletics Championships at Bedford and English Schools Championships at Gateshead.

Hyde was announced as the mens cup winner after securing the under 15 boys shot put titles at the Cheshire, Northern and England Athletics Championships, and after hitting a new personal best of 14.37m for victory at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield last month.

Sonny Dean received the Chris Goodwin Memorial Cup from Claire Goodwin after impressive improvements in his personal best times last season in both the 800m and 1500m, while Daniel Pagan and Nathan Partington were joint winners of the Wright Cup.

Bob Benson and over-60 and over-65 mens club marathon record-holder Richard Batterham won awards in the veteran mens age group, and multiple record holder Rosemary Rogers won the veteran womens award.

Anest Muller and Alice McMahon claimed the senior womens age group prizes, while Mark Davies and Dave McKay were presented with the senior mens awards.

Sophie Percival and Emily Ball won the under 20 womens trophies, and Matthew Pagan and Mark Hearn were awarded the under 20 mens awards.

The under 11 girls winners were Imogen Pughe and Stephanie Jones, while Henry Robinson and Zac Grinter received the under 11 boys awards.

Emily Misantoni and Anna Crayston claimed the under 13 girls trophies, and the under 13 boys winners were Harvey Tegg and Matthew Webb.

Beth McMahon and Issy Clarke received the under 15 girls awards, while Jac Goodall and Will Rattray received the under 15 boys trophies.

Club official John Driscoll announced that Mark Davies and Anest Muller were this years winners of the Endurance Running Points Competition.

ELEANOR WILLIAMS secured success at the penultimate round of the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series.

The Kings School youngster posted a time of three minutes 26 seconds to win the year three race at Ellesmere Port Sports Village and was one of 256 pupils taking part in the fixture.

Williams finished just four seconds clear of runner-up Ella Hims (Childer Thornton), and Cerys Rowlands (Woodlands) who was third in 3:40.

Joseph Ireland of Mill View clocked 3:27 for success in the year three boys race, ahead of Henry Jones (St Lukes) in second spot with 3:35, and third-placed Jack Ross (St Lukes) in 3:36.

Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House) posted 3:38 to win the year four girls race, just one second clear of runner up Isabella Rimmer (Overleigh St Marys), and Jessica Lark (Upton Heath) was third in 3:43.

Reece Munro of Eccleston won the year four boys race in 3:06, while Ben Grantham (Bishop Wilson) was second in 3:15, and Ryan Bagley (Helsby Hillside) achieved third spot in 3:17.

Carys Roberts (Tarporley) posted a winning time of 5:46 in the year five girls race to beat second-placed Jessica Hennessey (Newton) who clocked 6:01, and third-placed Georgina Duffey (Childer Thornton) in 6:25.

Zak Dean from Helsby Hillside won the year five boys race in 5:23, while Finn Thomson (Kings) finished second in 5:33, and Fergus Garland (Childer Thornton) was third in 5:41.

Holly Weedall, from Cuddington, won the year six girls race in 5:14, ahead of Childer Thornton duo Imogen Pughe (5:46) and Lara Battersby (5:47) who finished second and third respectively.

William Sutcliffe, from Mill View, won the year six boys race in 5:15, ahead of Ted Bolton (Christleton) who was second in 5:25, and third-placed Henry Robinson (Waverton) in 5:33.

John Gornall (8:25) and Matthew Holtom (8:30), both from Upton High, finished first and second respectively in the year seven boys race, ahead of Dylan Bugg (Tarporley) who was third in 8:45.

Charlotte Walker (Tarporley) won the year eight girls race in 13:17, ahead of runner-up Mimi Jayaram (Abbeygate) who was second in 14:42, and third-placed Emily Page (Christleton) in 15:26.

Harvey Tegg (Wirral Grammar) won the year eight boys race in 11:42, ahead of second-placed Charlie Clarke (Tarporley) in 12:37, and Liam Farrell (Neston) in third spot with 12:45.

EWAN BRADLEY catapulted himself to a medal at the Northern Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The West Cheshire AC member cleared 2-60m for third place in the under 15 boys pole vault held at the English Institute of Sport Arena in Sheffield.

Bradley was joined at the event by club mates Emily Misantoni, Abi Pawlett, and Jacob Simmonds.

Misantoni clocked a new under 15 girls 800m record time of two minutes 24.01 seconds for third place in her heat and cleared 1-40m in the high jump. Pawlett hit 9.17m in the under 15 girls shot put, clocked 9.42 seconds in the 60m, and posted 8.42 seconds in the 60m hurdles, while Simmonds clocked 25.55 seconds in the under 15 boys 200m semi-finals.

MARK DAVIES was the first of six West Cheshire AC team counters to complete the Liverpool and District Cross Country Championships race.

Davies posted 41 minutes 59 seconds for 48th place at Clarke Gardens, Allerton, ahead of Andrew Clague (50th in 42:10), John Parleviet (60th in 43:22), Dave Tiernan (78th in 45:09), Andrew Carter (79th in 45:11), and Bob Benson (80th in 45:19) to secure West Cheshire AC eighth team position.

ROSEMARY ROGERS secured second spot in her over-65 lady category with a time of 56 minutes one second at the Nick Beer 10k Road Race which included a testing climb around the Great Orme at Llandudno.

LUCIA PYNE finished third in the year seven girls race at Arrowe Park, Birkenhead in the Merseyside Schools Cross Country Championships ahead of West Cheshire AC club mate Abigail Cartwright who was 39th.

OLIVIA MONTEZ-BROWN has hit the ground running as a student in the United States.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club all-rounder who represented England last year in the Hexham Combined Events International, is attending Augustana College, in Illinois, and compiled a personal best pentathlon score of 3,534 points at the University of Minnesota Jack Johnson Invitational Meeting.

Olivia achieved an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying score and the best points total in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season.

Her college assistant coach, Greg Binstock said “Being that it was Olivia`s first pentathlon, for her to set an NCAA provisional mark is something special.“

Olivia clocked 8.93 seconds in the 60m hurdles, cleared 1-54m in the high jump, hit 10.50m in the shot put, long jumped 5.44m, and rounded the 800m in two minutes 29.57 seconds.

KATIE CLARKE clocked 20:26 for 22nd position in the under 17 ladies race at the Northern Cross Country Championships held at Witton Park, Blackburn.

Katie was joined at the event by other West Cheshire members Ethan Greenland (34th in 21:37) and Harri Britton (101st in 27:47) who completed the under 17 mens race.

Issy Clarke posted 18:11 for 25th spot in the under 15 girls race, ahead of Beth McMahon (123rd in 21:04), and Lily Moorhouse (162nd in 23:40).

Sion Roberts (60th in 16:21), David Dentith (69th in 16:31), Jac Goodall (72nd in 16:38), Jack Dodd (101st in 17:10), Alex Mason (115th in 17:37), and Rory Willson (165th in 20:57) represented West Cheshire in the under 15 boys race.

Lucia Pyne (43rd in 15:12) and Molly Jones (148th in 17:02) teamed up in the under 13 girls race.

CHILDER THORNTON Primary School will represent Ellesmere Port, Neston and Helsby at Cheshire County Primary Schools Sportshall Final to be held at the Northgate Arena, Chester, next month.

ENTRIES are now being accepted for the Liverpool Throws and Jumps Competition which is being held at Wavertree Athletics Centre, on Saturday, April 9.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will start their track and field league season on Sunday, April 10, at Bebington Oval in the first round of the Cheshire League, and other rounds will be held at Crewe on Saturday, June 4; at Warrington on Sunday, July 10; and at Colwyn Bay on Sunday, September 4.

FIXTURES this weekend include the West Cheshire Athletic Club annual presentation evening this Friday at the Cheshire View, Christleton (7.30pm start).

The third round of the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series at Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track on Saturday (9.15am registration for 10am start), the same day as the North Wales Cross Country League at the Marches School, Oswestry.

The Northern Under 13 and Under 15 Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on Sunday at the English Institute of Sport Arena, Sheffield, on the same day as the Liverpool and District Cross Country Championships at Clarke Gardens, Allerton, the Alsager Five Miles Road Race and the Nick Beer 10k Road Race at Llandudno.

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club youngsters pocketed medal performances at a shortened North West Sportshall League Finals at Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes.

Members in the under 11 boys and girls age groups earned silver medals in their team competitions, before the under 13 and under 15 boys and girls competition was abbreviated due to a slippery floor which caused the abandonment of most track races.

Carys Roberts, Dervla DeSouza, Emily Pawlett, Freya Johnstone, Grace Scott, Imogen Pughe, Isla Shillington, Isobelle Whittingstone, Jodie Bemand, Lara Battersby, Libby Dowling, Ruby Wisbey, Sara Pearson, Scarlett Ross, and Stephanie Jones combined to earn the under 11 girls team second position.

Ben Mustafa, Casper Armstrong, Gabriel Ford, Harley Shakespeare Wetnall, Jack Brett, Leo Hewitt, Liam Hughes, Louis Tegg, Tommy Smith, Uzezi Onomerike, and Zac Grinter combined to secure second spot in the under 11 boys team event.

Members in the under 13 and under 15 age group competitions produced a series of impressive displays.

Jac Goodall, Nathan Partington, Matthew Webb, Abigail Pawlett, Tamsin O’Keefe, Ewan Brandon, Emma Ashcroft, Anna Crayston, Tom Weaver, Dave Dentith, Harriet Alexander, Laura Mount, and Josh Ford all medalled.

Goodall won the under 15 boys shot title, while Partington claimed gold medals in the under 13 boys vertical jump and a silver medal in the standing long jump behind Webb, who also claimed a gold medal in the two-lap time trial.

Pawlett celebrated success in the under 13 girls shot and two-lap time-trial and was second in the vertical jump, while O’Keefe won the standing triple jump ahead of third placed Crayston; Ashcroft was a silver medallist in the speed bounce, and Alexander secured bronze medals in the under 15 girls standing long jump and two-lap time-trial alongside Mount.

Weaver finished second in the under 13 boys vertical jump and third in the standing long jump, while Brandon was second in both the under 15 boys standing long jump and standing triple jump.

Dentith pocketed bronze medals in the under 15 boys standing long jump and speed bounce, while Ford secured a bronze medal in the standing triple jump.

JEROME CASTELOW headed the West Cheshire AC charge at the latest race in the Borders Road Running League Series.

The University of Chester student finished fourth in his under 20 age group and 19th overall after clocking 28 minutes 38 seconds for the five miles course at Abergele.

He was backed up by Ethan Greenland (sixth under-20 man and 29th overall in 29:18), league debutant Christy Mageean (seventh under-20 man and 32nd overall in 29:32), John Parlevliet (43rd in 29:52), David Tait (47th in 30:00), Mark Davies (63rd in 30:56), Andy Carter (ninth V45 and 64th overall in 30:58), Jack Gannon (75th in 31:37), Andrew Clague (78th in 31:52), and Ian Gloyne-Phillips (79th in 31:53), who earned their club third team position on the day.

They were supported by Dave Tiernan (sixth V50 and 84th overall in 32:00), Robert Freeman (second V60 and 85th overall in 32:00), Joe Foy (third V60 and 104th overall in 33:03), Phil Woodley (110th overall in 33:20), Rob Shellie (112th in 33:23), Bob Benson (sixth V60 and 117th overall in 33:47), Vince Hodges (19th V45 and 129th overall in 34:22), and Neil Carter (10th V50 and 132nd overall in 34:38).

Chester University student Mathew Smith completed his first-ever race, to earn 135th spot in 34:42, ahead of Richard Batterham (second V65 and 176th overall in 36:45), Phil Howe (179th in 36:54), Peter Smith (24th V50 and 212th overall in 39:28), Tony Kennedy (26th V55 and 221st in 40:06), and Brian Beattie (second V70 and 233rd overall in 42:56).

Anest Muller was the first lady for West Cheshire AC, posting 32:38 for sixth place overall, ahead of first under 20 lady Katie Clarke who was 14th lady overall in 33:35, Ellie Robinson (fifth FV40 and 21st lady in 35:27), and Lisa Davies (sixth FV40 and 24th lady in 35:35) who secured their club third team spot on the day.

The quartet was backed up by Clare Mallon (ninth FV40 and 53rd lady in 38:47), Kay Hayes (10th FV35 and 66th lady in 41:45), and Lorraine McFaul (13th FV50 and 70th lady in 42:30).
