SEVERAL West Cheshire Athletic Club members celebrated podium places at the weekend.
Fiona Cook finished second lady in the Chester Ultra 50 Miles Race which started and finished at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Athletics Track.
Fiona covered the route which covered trails along the North Cheshire Way and the Sandstone Trail featuring Helsby Hill, Delamere Forest and Frodsham.
Fiona crossed the finish line in eight hours 16 minutes 23 seconds, while Dave Shearer was sixth man in 8:08:16.
POPPY McKENNA secured second spot in the year five/six girls race at Worksop College in the National Independent Schools Cross Country Championships.
Poppy was backed up by King’s School Chester team mates Florence Hain (19th), Felicity Snowden (34th), and by Ava Phillips who finished 16th in the year four girls race.
LEWIS MORRIS and Ben Newall were first and third for their age group at the Oulton Park 5km Race.
Lewis clocked 16:56 in his under 15 age category, ahead of Ben who secured third position at the Cheshire race circuit.
JODI BEMAND sliced 31 seconds off her under 20 Club record 10k time at Partington in the Trafford 10k with a time of 38:58.
Jodi was joined at the event by her mum, Debra, who posted 47:14, and by Chris Shaw who clocked 37:11.
JEFF LAMBERT posted 2:11:20 at the Anglesey Half Marathon which was his fastest 13.1 miles time for seven years and he sliced four minutes off his time at the same fixture last year.

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club remain on course for a double promotion campaign.
The purple and gold-vested outfit strengthened their push for honours in the Borders Road Running League at Sunday’s latest 7.1km fixture held at Connah’s Quay.
Lindsay Fisher (second in 26:35), Keely Smith (third in 26:59), Emma Nutt (18th in 29:29), and Rebecca Rosalski (22nd in 29:59) secured top spot in the Division Two team competition, backed up by Anest Muller (32nd in 31:51), Debra Bemand (57th in 34:11), Joy Hickman (59th in 34:19), Clare Mallon (62nd in 34:50), and Amy Mills (64th in 35:12).
West Cheshire AC are now in first position overall in Division Two with just one fixture remaining at Hoylake on Sunday, March 17.
Graham Wells (28th in 24:57), Jon Park (33rd in 25:08), Steve Fernyhough (35th in 25:14), Dave Shearer (41st in 25:32), Isaac McKenna (45th in 25:39), Rob Little (61st in 26:22), Jeff Gifford (83rd in 27:32), Mark Davies (95th in 27:58), and Paul Morrison (104th in 28:21) earned third team position in Division Two on Sunday and West Cheshire AC are now second in the overall team standings.

Joe Boden (Wallasey AC) won the men’s race with a time of 22:05, ahead of second-placed Ryan Davis, from Wrexham AAC, who posted 22:23, and Tomos Roberts (Cybi Striders) was third in 22:30, while Emily Haggard-Kearney (Deeside AAC) won the ladies race in 25:21.

IMOGEN PUGHE reached the 400m semi-final at the British Universities and Colleges Indoor Championships held in Sheffield, while Favour Akpan finished 11th in the triple jump final with 11.36m.
ANDREW PARKER finished fifth over-45 man at Lee Valley in the British Masters Indoor Championships with a time of 54.64 seconds.

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club has celebrated it’s annual awards presentation evening.
The purple and gold-vested outfit attracted 200 members, parents and friends to the successful event held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Chester.
Record-breaking adventurer, ultra-endurance athlete and former West Cheshire AC member, Alex Staniforth, who has survived the two biggest disasters in Mount Everest history as a teenager, was the guest speaker.
Harriet Wheeler was named winner of the women’s cup, and Jamie Richardson was the winner of the men’s cup.
Nancy Farmer was presented with the Chris Goodwin Cup by John Goodwin, while the Manson Family won the Wright Trophy, and Eddie Gore was named Club Person of the Year.
Debra Bemand, Joy Hickman and Fiona Cook were presented with first, second and third-placed awards respectively for the women’s Endurance Points Competition, and Andy Carter, Andrew Clague and Michael Young were the top three men respectively in their Endurance Points Competition.
Poppy McKenna and Rosie Grimsditch won the under 11 girls awards, while Jack Arnold and Leo Ravenscroft were presented with the under 11 boys trophies.
Mia Johnson and Lauren Higgins collected the under 13 girls awards, and Dylan Gledhill and Aiden Hilton won the under 13 boys cups.
Macey Jones and Satine Wearden were recipients of the under 15 girls awards, and Evan Miller and Theo Shepherd collected the under 15 boys trophies.
Carys Manson and Kara Stoll won the under 17 ladies awards, while Nathan Brassington and Alfie Lane secured the under 17 men’s trophies.
Emma Holmes and Ruby Wisbey won the under 20 ladies awards, and Henry Robinson and Fraser Campbell collected the under 20 men’s cups.
Beth McMahon and Megan Kettle won the senior ladies awards, while Paul Morrison and Bradley Spurdens were the senior men’s winners.

EMMA HOLMES represented West Cheshire AC in Birmingham at the UK Indoor Athletics Track and Field Championships where she clocked a new 200m club record time of 24.38 seconds and was the youngest athlete in the semi-finals.
LINDSAY FISHER, Keely Smith and Wullie McGarrell all broke West Cheshire AC age group records at the weekend in the Village Bakery Half Marathon at Wrexham.
Lindsay sliced more than a minute off the womenβs club and over-35 record with a time of one hour 18 minutes 58 seconds.
Keely Smith carved almost a minute off the over-40 women’s club record with a time of 1:20:50, and Wullie knocked 11 seconds off his over-55 record with a time of 1:21:32.

JESSICA LARK was crowned a National champion in Sheffield on Sunday.
The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club distance runner posted a winning time of four minutes 29.57 seconds in the under 20 ladies 1500m final at the England Athletics Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Jessica finished more than two seconds clear of her nearest rival at the English Institute of Sport Arena where she had claimed the Northern Indoor 800m Championship title last month in a time of 2:10.99.
Jessica also smashed the West Cheshire AC under 20 ladies indoor 1500m club record last month at a Cardiff British Milers Club meeting with a time of 4:26.34.
Emma Holmes delivered a silver medal performance with a new West Cheshire AC under 20 women’s indoor club record 400m time of 55.13 seconds.
Mae Grant celebrated a new under 15 girls West Cheshire AC indoor triple jump record of 10.01m for sixth position.
Mia Johnson clocked a new under 15 girls West Cheshire AC indoor 60m record of 7.88 seconds and a new 200m indoor record time of 25.78 seconds.
Nathan Brassington powered his way to fifth spot in the under 17 men’s shot put with 13m, while Beth Manson posted a new indoor personal best of 43 seconds.
Macy Brett clocked a new under 17 ladies indoor 60m hurdles personal best time of 9.04 seconds, and Holly Bosworth posted a new indoor under 17 ladies 200m personal best of 26.76 seconds.
POPPY McKENNA and Andrew Clague both celebrated victories at the final round of the North Wales Cross Country League held at Oswestry.
Poppy won the under 11 girls race and was backed up by Heidi Wetherall (fifth) and Felicity Snowden (seventh) to earn West Cheshire AC top spot in the team race.
Andrew Clague was first in his over-55 age group on the day and overall in the league and was supported in the men’s race by team mates Dave Alexander (fourth over-50 man), Jeff Gifford (second over-55 man on the day and overall), Mark Davies (15th over-45 man), and Paul Morrison (31st senior man).
Eleanor Wheeler was second overall in the under 15 girls league series of races and Nia Manson finished third overall in the under 13 girls race series and was second on the day ahead of Amelia Snowden (fifth) and Rose Shepherd (ninth), while the trio combined for first team position on the day and third team overall.
Anest Muller secured third spot overall in the league series in her over-40 age group and was fifth over-40 lady on the day, supported by Claire Harris (fourth over-35 lady), Joy Hickman (seventh over-55 lady), Debra Bemand (seventh over-50 lady), and Emily Murphy (eighth under 17 lady).
Thomas Rimmer finished fifth in the under 15 boys race and Jack Arnold was fourth in the under 11 boys race.
TRACY ROGERS represented West Cheshire AC at Saturday’s Manchester Cross Country League fixture held at Kenworthy Woods and finished second in her over-35 women’s age group.
Tracy was supported by club mates Emma Nutt (15th senior lady) and Amanda Newall (14th over-45 lady).
Emilia Pyper was fourth in the under 15 girls race, while Nancy Farmer (sixth), and Hayley Holland (25th) completed the under 17 ladies race.

RUBY BILLINGTON and Mia Johnson produced podium performances at Sheffield in the Northern Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The West Cheshire Athletic Club pair impressed at the English Institute of Sport Arena at the weekend and both returned home with bronze medals.
Ruby cleared 1-50m for third spot in the under 15 girls high jump, while Mia Johnson secured third position with a time of 26.10 seconds in her under 15 girls 200m final after slicing 100th of a second off the club age group record with a time of 26.08 seconds in her semi-final.
Maya Jennings posted 8.37 seconds for eighth place in her under 15 girls 60m final and reached the 200m semi-finals alongside Beth Manson.
Ryan Claessen rounded the under 15 boys 800m final in a time of 2:25.72 for seventh spot.
Mollie Garratt was fourth in the under 13 girls long jump final with a new personal best of 4.14m and was fifth in her 60m final.
Aiden Hilton reached the under 15 boys 60m semi-final, and Amelia Snowden represented West Cheshire AC in the under 13 girls 200m and long jump.
NIA MANSON won the year seven girls race at the Cheshire Schools Cross Country Championships held at Knights Grabnge, Winsford, on Saturday.
Amelia Snowden (sixth), Sophie Baker (ninth) and Rose Sheppard (10th) also impressed to earn places in the Cheshire team to face Merseyside at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Wednesday, March 20.

MAE GRANT was crowned Welsh champion in Cardiff at the weekend.
The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club member celebrated a gold medal-winning display in the under 15 girls triple jump with a new Welsh Indoor Championship best performance of 9.57m.
Mae was joined at the two-day fixture by Mia Johnson who pocketed two under 15 girls bronze medals in the 60m final with a time of 8.01 seconds, and in the 300m with a time of 45.43 seconds.
Emma Holmes rounded the senior women’s 400m final in a time of 57.12 seconds for fourth position, and Imogen Pughe reached the semi-finals and clocked 59.63 seconds.
FOUR West Cheshire AC members made the trip to East Park, Sedgefield, for the Northern Cross Country Championships.
Emilia Pyper rounded the under 15 girls course for 22nd spot in a time of 14:17, while Cosette Wearden posted 19:03 for 28th place in the under 17 women’s event.
Harriet Beattie (47th in 12:14) and Nia Manson (53rd in 12:18) completed the under 13 girls race.

POPPY McKENNA and Andrew Clague celebrated victories at Dolgellau on Saturday.
The West Cheshire Athletic Club duo braved wet and windy conditions to taste success at the third round of the North Wales Cross Country League.
Poppy won the under 11 girls race in 7:50, ahead of team mate, Heidi Wetherall (fourth in 8:36), while Andrew won his over-55 age group in the men’s race with a time of 38:54, alongside club mates Dave Alexander (fifth over-50 man in 37:21) and Jeff Gifford (second over-55 man in 37:54).
Nia Manson was third in a time of 7:47 in the under 13 girls race, while Eleanor Wheeler was fourth in the under 15 girls race, and Jack Arnold finished fourth with 8:13 in the under 11 boys race.
Emma Nutt (19th in 24:46), Anest Muller (fourth over-40 in 26:03), Georgina Duffey (seventh under 17 in 28:47), Joy Hickman (eighth over-55 in 29:41), and Alex Duffey (14th over-45 in 32:56), completed the ladies race.
JESSICA LARK represented West Cheshire AC at the British Milers Club Indoor fixture on Sunday in Cardiff and posted a season’s best under 20 women’s 1500m time of 4:26:34 for fourth position in the A race.
JODI BEMAND travelled to Parliament Hill on Saturday and finished 33rd with a time of 27:16 in the under 20 women’s race at the London Cross Country Challenge.
LINDSAY FISHER and Keely Smith secured podium places at Sunday’s Four Villages Half Marathon in Helsby.
Lindsay was third over-35 lady in 1:24:13, and Keely finished third over-40 lady in 1:24:14.
Steve Fernyhough was West Cheshire AC’s first finisher in the race, posting 1:20:07 for 14th spot in his over-40 age group.

EMMA HOLMES, Jessica Lark, and Macy Brett produced podium places in Sheffield at the weekend.
The West Cheshire Athletic Club trio impressed at the two-day Northern Indoor Track and Field Championships held in the Institute of Sport Arena.
Emma was crowned under 20 women’s 400m champion after clocking a club record time of 56.02 seconds, ahead of fifth placed club mate Imogen Pughe in 61.78 seconds.
And Emma added a silver medal in the 200m with a club record-breaking time of 24.45 seconds after winning her heat in 24.79 seconds, and her semi-final in 24.60 seconds.
Jessica rounded the under 20 women’s 800m final for a gold medal-winning and new club record-breaking time of 2:10.99 having won her heat in 2:14.17.
And Macy produced an impressive silver medal in the under 17 women’s 60m hurdles final with a time of 9.18 seconds, just 600ths of a second behind the winner.
Cosette Wearden, registered as an under 17 lady, ran in the under 20 women’s 3,000m final and clocked a new under 17 ladies club record time of 10:45.51.
Other West Cheshire AC members in action at Sheffield included Holly Bosworth (27.10) and Lara Fields (28.70) in the under 17 women’s 200m; Jacob Gardner (24.66), Stephen Smalls (27.98) and Theo Shepherd (23.69) in the under 17 men’s 200m, and Macey Jones (8.19) in the under 17 ladies 60m.
TRACY ROGERS, Poppy McKenna and Jodi Bemand secured podium positions representing West Cheshire AC at Tatton Park in the latest round of the Manchester Cross Country League.
Tracy won her over-35 age group race and finished seventh lady overall in a time of 32:04, while Jodi was third in her under 20 ladies race in 34:47, and the pair were backed up by Georgina Duffey (10th under 20 lady in 41:56), Lucie Truett (17th in 34:03), Emma Nutt (39th in 36:14), Anest Muller (13th over-40 in 38:36), Anna Woolgar (fifth over-45 in 37:11), Amanda Newall (20th over-45 in 40:28), Alex Duffey (56th over-45 in 48:11), and Angela Tegg (22nd over-50 lady in 44:18), to earn West Cheshire AC fourth team place in the senior ladies event and fifth place in the veteran team competition.
Poppy finished third with a time of 14:17 in the under 11 girls race, backed up by team mates Heidi Wetherall (31st in 16:32) and Isla Lambert (66th in 19:51) to earn ninth team spot.
