Press Report: Youngsters on Song at Longford Park

HEIDI ANSTEY celebrated a double success story at Trafford on Sunday.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club youngster registered an impressive under 12 girls 75m personal best time of 10.68 seconds for victory and then added a winning time of 21.65 seconds in the 150m.

Heidi was joined at the fixture staged at the Longford Park Stadium by Isla Lambert who powered her way to 19.42m in the under 14 girls hammer, 14.43m in the discus, and 5m in the shot put.

Lucas Sawyer rounded the under 14 men’s 1500m in 4:35.08, while Lauren Higgins clocked 46.61 seconds in the under 16 girls 300m.

Heidi Wetherall achieved 2:52.63 in the under 14 girls 1500m, and Dan Hughes-Shaw posted 12.25 seconds in the under 18 men’s 100m.

FIXTURES this weekend include a Throws Pentathlon and Seniors and Masters Open Track Meeting, on Saturday, at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, and the UK Sportshall Athletics Finals, at Fenton Sports Complex, Stoke on Trent, on Saturday; while the Mersey Tunnel 10k Race, and Liverpool Harriers Open Track and Field Meeting take place on Sunday.

THE 2026 Cheshire Steeplechase Championships will be held at Warrington, on Saturday, April 18. Warrington AC have kindly offered to host the County Steeplechase Championships for Cheshire and other North West Counties at their Spring Open Meeting.

There will be races for Under 16, Under 18, Under 20 and Senior men and women. Medals will be awarded to the first three Cheshire athletes to finish in each race.

Holding a joint event with other counties will provide athletes with a great opportunity to take part in more competitive races. The closing date for entries is April 15.

THIS season’s Borders Road Running League Relays and Presentation Evening will be held on May 6, at Prestatyn.

FIXTURES for this year’s Cheshire Track and Field Grand Prix are: Round One, Saturday, April 25, at Macclesfield; Round Two, Sunday, May 17, at Crewe or Macclesfield; Round Three, Sunday, July 5, at Ashton Under Lyne; Round Four, Sunday, September 13, at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
