EPSV TRACK TRAINING IS ON

Please note that the Saturday run-jump-throw junior training session supervised by Dennis and Joanne, at the EPSV Track (10am-12 noon), is taking place this weekend.

AND club training continues at the EPSV Track throughout the school summer holidays!

Entries are now being accepted for the Guilden Sutton 10k Road Race. The race will be fixture 7 in the Cheshire AA Road Running Grand Prix series and the entry fee is Β£15 for UKA Affiliated Runners (Β£17 for non-affiliated runners). The online entry link for is: https://wcac.niftyentries.com/

Please remember to provide a friend to volunteer as a marshal if you are running in the race!

ROAD RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS UPDATE

Ellie Robinson has kindly agreed to coordinate club entries for the North West and Cheshire Road Relays being held at Birkenhead Park on Sunday 14th September, and the Northern Road Relays at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 21st September.

Ellie needs to know availabilities by 1st September latest to give her enough time to sort out the teams (as she is also away on holiday that week). Athletes (or parents) need to email Ellie directly if they are available and want to be considered to be included in a team at: [email protected]

Usual rules apply i.e.: Club vests must be worn; You must be a 1st claim member; For the event on the 14th you need to be eligible to run for Cheshire by birth or residence. (You do not need Cheshire eligibility for the event on the 21st).

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED FOR MULTI TERRAIN RACE

Entries for September Tuesday night Multi-terrain series have opened. 

Tuesday 16th at Thurstaston Country Park is the responsibility of West Cheshire AC: Mark the course with signs; Set up run in to finish – bollards, stakes and tape; Marshal the course – 5 can cover 6 marshal points plus tail marshal; and Clear up.

Mike Lamb has produced interactive track and field progression tables of male and female records for all age groups and events, showing who held the record and when since the club was formed in 1998.

And Mike has also produced up-to-date progressions of age group road records for female and male club members since the club was formed.

Helpers are urgently needed from 5.50pm on Tuesdays and 6.20pm on Thursdays to register everyone on the tablet who attends EPSV training sessions.

And volunteers are always needed to assist with club track training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Press Report: Harriet and Joe Among UK’s Best

HARRIET WHEELER rubbed shoulders with Olympian multi-eventer Katarina Johnson-Thompson at the weekend.

The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club thrower was the youngest competitor in the javelin competition at the UK Athletics Track and Field Championships held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Harriet finished fourth with a throw of 47.58m, while Katarina warmed up for next month’s World Athletics Championships heptathlon with 41.98m and fifth place.

Harriet was joined in Birmingham by club mate, Joseph Morrison, and former West Cheshire AC member, Abigail Pawlett.

Joseph clocked 1:47.86 for fourth spot in the third heat of the senior men’s 800m.

And Abigail celebrated a silver medal with a time of 13.12 seconds in the senior women’s 100m hurdles final.

CHRISTIAN HOLCOMBE, Dave McKay and Joy Hickman achieved club age group records for West Cheshire AC at Saturday’s third round of the Northern Track and Field League Premier West Division fixture held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Christian long jumped a new over 40 men’s record of 5.52m, while Dave hit a new over 40 men’s hammer record of 46.11m, and Joy rounded the 800m in a new over 60 women’s record of 3:05.3.

Christian also won the long jump with 12m, while Dave nailed a winning throw of 46.44m in the javelin.

The pair were joined in the winners circle by Henry Robinson, Dun Xue, Holly Bosworth, Emma Nutt, Arwen Thorne, Ruby Billington, Kara Stoll, Beth Manson, Imogen Pughe, and Erin Barnard.

Henry clocked a winning time of 11:13.5 in the 3,000m steeplechase, while Dun claimed top spot in the B shot (10.48m) and B discus (29.33m), and Holly posted 25 seconds in the 200m.

Emma achieved victory in the B 3,000m, while Arwen (1-55m) and Ruby (1-45m) combined for a double success story in the high jump, and Arwen added top spot in the javelin with 35.42m.

Kara powered her way to success in the B discus with 22.93m, and the quartet of Beth, Imogen, Erin and Holly teamed up for a convincing victory in the 4x400m relay.

Other important West Cheshire AC point scorers included Alex Rutherford, Nathan Owen, Alessio Solinas, Lewis Parsons, Josh Stirling, Dan Walker, Paul Morrison, Lewis Morris, Matt Gutteridge, Andy Manson, Andy Gore, Joseph Donnelly, Dan Nowosielski, Alba March, Macey Jones, Cosette Wearden, Nancy Farmer, Hayley Holland, Mae Grant, Megan Kettle, and Satine Wearden.

MATCH RESULT: 1 Blackburn Harriers and AC 384.5 points; 2 Team Isle of Man 376; 3 West Cheshire AC 361; 4 Sale Harriers Manchester 348; 5 Trafford AC 314.5; 6 Southport Waterloo AC 265.

OVERALL STANDINGS (after three rounds): 1 Blackburn Harriers and AC 18 league points (1236.5 match points); 2 West Cheshire AC 12 (1040.5); 3 Sale Harriers Manchester 11 (1019); 4 Trafford AC 8 (932); 5 Team Isle of Man 8 (927.5); 6 Southport Waterloo 6 (875.5).

The next round will be held at Trafford’s Longford Park Stadium on Sunday, August 31.
