Press Report: Team Effort at Blackburn

THE quartet of Holly Bosworth, Beth Manson, Niamh Le’Gall, and Eleanor Wheeler grabbed glory in Blackburn on Saturday.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club members teamed up for top spot with a time of four minutes 3.8 seconds in the women’s 4x400m relay to conclude the opening round of the Northern Track and Field League West Premier Division.

Niamh had earlier pocketed maximum points from a 200m success with a time of 24.9 seconds, and Beth won the B 100m with a time of 13.4 seconds.

Arwen Thorne powered her way to victory with 34.68m in the women’s javelin and added success in the B long jump.

Alan Littler and Joseph Donnelly claimed a double success story in the men’s high jump with clearances of 1-73m and 1-55m respectively, and Dave McKay nailed a winning throw of 45.47m in the men’s javelin alongside B winner, James Rawson, while Paul Morrison posted 2:02.5 for top spot in the men’s B 800m, and Emma Nutt rounded the women’s B 3000m in a winning time of 11:25.9.

Other important West Cheshire AC point scorers included Nathan Brassington, Matt Gutteridge, Daniel Walker, Christian Holcombe, Dun Xue, Alba March, Cosette Wearden, Ellie Robinson, Emilia Pyper, Joy Hickman, Liliana Boelger, Danielle Erskine, Anita Boreham, Sidney Shorrock, Kara Stoll, and Megan Kettle.

MATCH RESULT: 1 Blackburn Harriers & AC 432 points; 2 Sale Harriers Manchester 344; 3 West Cheshire AC 340.5; 4 Southport Waterloo AC 283.5; 5 Team Isle of Man 270.5; 6 Trafford AC 233.5.

The next round will be held at Trafford, on Sunday, June 22.

LEWIS MORRIS, Leon Betteridge and Joy Hickman produced West Cheshire AC age group records on Friday night at the Christleton 5km Road Race.

Lewis clocked a new 17 men’s record of 15:34, while Leon posted 17:58 for a new under 13 boys record, and Joy registered a new over 60 ladies’ record of 21:27.

The trio were joined at the event by other West Cheshire finishers Sam Oliver (15:54), Scott Wells (16:23), Ben Newall (16:57), Max Henderson (17:41), Connor Lee (18:11), Finlay Stewart (18:19), Neil Hershaw (18:16), Jeff Gifford (18:59), Mark Davies (19:26), Dylan Gledhill (19:48), Sidney Carr (19:48), Amelia Snowden (20:06), Emma Nutt (20:01), Poppy McKenna (20:12), Nia Manson (20:22), Richard Hayes (20:28), Carolyn Pollard (21:18), Joy Hickman (21:27), Stephen Ball (22:03), Andy Carter (22:32), Neil Field (22:54), and Debra Bemand (23:33).

Martin Clark (Bury AC) won the race in 14:57, and Emily Haggard Kearney (Warriors) was first lady in 15:33.

MATTHEW DOUGLASS posted 1:14:37 for 11th place at the Chester Half Marathon on Sunday.

He was joined at the event by West Cheshire AC team mates Michael Young (39th in 1:18:56), Steve King (103rd in 1:24:23), Keely Smith (eighth lady in 1:26:49), Andrew Clague (1:30:42), Luke Ellis (1:34:48), Ellis Hancock (1:36:28), Paul Cain (1:37:23), Sonia McNichol (1:38:42), Andrew Barratt (1:39:57), Carolyn Pollard (1:39:36), Ian Pritchard (1:40:02), Steve Hillier (1:39:22), Clare Mallon (1:45:26), Brian Cremin (1:45:39), Dave Barratt (1:44:56), Amy Mills (1:52:42), Phil Gent (1:51:29), Darren Shillington (1:52:26), Andy Carter (1:55:04), Peter Kerestur (1:53:19), Stephen Ball (1:59:17), and Jake Hidden Deveson (2:21:41).

Corrin Leeming (Western AC Isle of Man) won the race in 1:07:21, and Melissah Gibson (Ealing Eagles Running Club) was first lady in 1:15:49.

FIXTURES this weekend include the Cheshire Track and Field Grand Prix Second Round, at Macclesfield, on Saturday; the second round of the Under 17 and Under 20 Youth Development Track and Field League, at Leigh, on Sunday; the Mynydd Myfyr 6.5km Hill Run, on Sunday; and the Northern Inter Counties Track and Field Championships, at York, on Monday.
