COSETTE WEARDEN is one of several recent record breakers at West Cheshire Athletic Club.

The purple and gold-vested runner broke her club’s outdoor under 17 women’s 3,000m record at Blackburn in a Northern League match with a time of 10:45.6.

And she then broke this record again at Blackpool in the Northern Inter Counties Championships with a time of 10:38.63, alongside club mate Lauren Higgins who clocked a new 800m personal best of 2:25.9.

Other club record breakers at the Blackburn Northern League fixture were Christian Holcombe and Debra Erskine.

Christian broke the over 40 men’s triple jump record with 11.68m, and Debra powered her way to a new over 60 women’s hammer record of 22.04m.

WEST CHESHIRE AC duo Joseph Morrison (1:51.03 for 800m) and Jessica Lark (4:36.70 for 1500m) competed in the British Milers Club Grand Prix – World Athletics Challenger fixture at Sportcity, Manchester.

WEST CHESHIRE ATHLETIC CLUB has delivered taster sessions for Willaston Primary School pupils.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based community sports organisation offered a run-jump-throw training day for 60 pupils as part of Willaston’s week of sporting activities.

Willaston sports teacher, Mary Hughes said: “A massive thank you to all the volunteers at West Cheshire Athletic Club for the amazing taster day for Year four and six.

“The children absolutely loved going to the athletics club and the staff who accompanied them are made up with how well the event went.”

West Cheshire Athletic Club secretary, Dennis Wall, was delighted to see the youngsters and school staff enjoying their visit.

He said: “It was great to see the pupils and staff enjoying themselves and experiencing the sessions delivered by our volunteer coaches.

“The pupils were organised into manageable groups and were rotated from one session to another during their three-hour visit.

“Great Britain international sprinter and West Cheshire AC member, Emma Holmes, supervised a warm-up routine to prepare the youngsters for the taster sessions which included sprinting, long jump, high jump, javelin and hammer throwing.”

Dennis hopes more locally-based youngsters can come and try athletics at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Facility.

He added: “The Club would like to see children and families coming down to our club training evenings which are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6.30-8pm.

“Anyone attending for the first time aged 8.5 years old and above will not be charged a penny, but they will be asked to join the club via the club website if they want to return to another training session.

“All the club training sessions are delivered by fully qualified and enthusiastic voluntary coaches who are keen to see everyone enjoy their visit and improve as well as learn more about running, jumping and throwing.

“The club is a friendly community sports club who continue to work in partnership with many education providers and help deliver competitions for schools within the Ellesmere Port and Chester area.”

West Cheshire AC will be helping to organise the Chester District Primary Schools Athletics Championships on Monday, June 17, and the Ellesmere Port District Athletics Championships on Tuesday, June 18, both at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
