Press Report: Emma and Niamh earn international honours
EMMA HOLMES made her debut for Great Britain on Sunday at the Loughborough International Meeting.
The talented West Cheshire Athletic Club sprinter, who recently clocked a new under 20 women’s 400m club record at the Birchfield Midweek Open Meeting at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, posted 55.32 seconds for third position at the weekend.
Emma was joined at the event by club mate Niamh Le’Gall who represented England in the women’s 200m and finished second with a time of 25.03 seconds.
LEWIS MORRIS was one of four West Cheshire AC members to break club records on Friday night at the Christleton 5k Road Race.
Lewis clocked 15 minutes 49 seconds to win the under 20 men’s age group and break both the under 15 and under 17 men’s club records.
Nancy Farmer posted 18:39 for second spot in her under 20 age group and smash the club under 17 and under 20 women’s age group records.
Leon Betteridge clocked an under 13 boys club record time of 19:06, and Emilia Pyper claimed the under 15 girls club record with a time of 19:08.
Wulle McGarrell (17:44) and Neil Hershaw achieved second and third positions respectively in the over-60 men’s age group, and other West Cheshire AC finishers included Jack Gannon (16:35), Ben Newall (16:58), Isaac McKenna (17:05), Chris Shaw (17:54), Noah Woolgar (18:39), Mark Davies (18:48), Jack Sheppard (19:15), Richard Hayes (19:26), Emma Nutt (19:39), David Morris (19:52), Nia Manson (20:08), Lucy Vaughan (20:31), Eleanor Wheeler (20:59), and Georgina Duffey (21:28).
WULLIE McGARRELL posted a new West Cheshire AC over-60 men’s club record of 1:23:45 at Sunday’s Chester Half Marathon.
Michael Young was the club’s first finisher in 1:12:09, followed by Steve Fernyhough (1:16:46), Graham Wells (1:19:41), Issac McKenna (1:21:17), Phil Woodley (1:21:27), Rob Little (1:23:04), Chris Shaw (1:23:54), Fiona Cook (1:26:35), Andrew Clague (1:29:29), Mark Davies (1:31:09), Rebecca Rosalski (1:33:04), Emma Nutt (1:36:08), David Morris (1:40:05), Neil Field (1:41:29), Andrew Barratt (1:45:12), Steve Hillier (1:46:13), Brian Cremin (1:47:47), Phil Gent (1:51:04), Stephen Ball (1:51: 52), Amy Mills (1:54:17), Kimberly Morris (1:58:28), Peter Keresturova (1:56:41), Manu Manamel (2:09:31), and Jeff Lambert (2:19:59).
SEB WHITELEY was one of seven West Cheshire AC members to celebrate success at the second round of the Under 13/Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League held at Wavertree, Liverpool.
Seb won the under 15 boys shot put with 12.53m, and other victories were registered by Mia Johnson who posted 25.75 seconds in the under 15 girls 200m, and by Mollie Garratt who won the under 13 girls 70m hurdles in 11.98 seconds.
Arwen Thorne launched the under 15 girls javelin to a winning mark of 31.61m and her sister, Violet won the under 13 girls B shot put with 6.06m, while Dylan Gledhill hit 27.11m for success in the under 15 boys B javelin, and Poppy McKenna rounded the under 13 girls B 1200m in a winning time of 4:04.91.

JOSEPH MORRISON bagged a double success story in West Cheshire AC’s opening round of the Northern Track and Field League.
Joseph clocked 1:53.2 for his 800m, and 4:00.5 for his 1500m in the West Premier Division fixture held at Blackburn’s Witton Park Arena.
West Cheshire’s other winners were Danielle Erskine who triple jumped 10.42m, and Will Scott who powered his way to victories in the B shot (9.30m) and B javelin (43.16m).

WEST CHESHIRE AC has a busy schedule of fixtures lined up for the year ahead.
The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based outfit will host the Cheshire County Schools Track and Field Championships, the Cheshire County Track Relay Championships, and the English Schools Track and Field Cup Regional B Final.
The Cheshire Schools Championships take place on Saturday, June 8, while the Cheshire County Track Relay Championships will take place on Thursdays, July 4 and 11, and the English Schools Track and Field Cup Regional B Final will be held on Wednesday, June 5.
West Cheshire AC will compete in the Under 13/Under 15 Youth Development League West Premier Division at Preston on Sunday, June 23; and at Bebington Oval on Saturday, July 20.
And the Club will participate in the Under 17/Under 20 Youth Development Track and Field League North West Division One at Leigh on Sunday, May 26; and at Wigan on Sunday, June 30.
The Club’s Northern Track and Field League squad will take part in West Premier Division fixtures at Litherland on Saturday, June 15; at Bury on Sunday, July 14; and at Ellesmere Port on Saturday, August 17.
West Cheshire AC will compete in the Cheshire Track and Field League on Sunday, July 21 (at Ellesmere Port); and Sunday, August 25 (at Oldham).
West Cheshire AC will also host the annual Cheshire v Merseyside Year 7 Schools Track and Field fixture in July.
