Press Report: Walls Race Still Going Strong at 51

THE Chester Round the Walls Race celebrates its 51st birthday this year.

The multi-terrain race, organised by West Cheshire Athletic Club on Boxing Day from Chester Racecourse, is one of the oldest races in the UK and has been an almost permanent festive fixture since its inception in 1972.

Although changing almost every year due to weather and ongoing maintenance of the roman and medieval walls, the typical route is around 4.25 miles, starting and finishing on the Roodee racecourse and including sections of the walls including the famed Eastgate clock.

Entries for this year’s race are still being received and all finishers will receive a commemorative medal to mark the event’s anniversary. The online entry link is here.

FIXTURES this weekend include the second round of the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Saturday (10am start), while the Borders Road Running League second round is being hosted by Birkenhead AC at Birkenhead Park, on Sunday (11am start).

THE West Cheshire AC AGM will be held on Tuesday, November 28, in the EPSV Trackside Room, at 8.15pm.

ENTRIES close on November 17 for the Liverpool Cross Challenge fixture at Sefton Park being held on Saturday, November 25. The online entry link is: https://www.entryhub.co.uk/british-athletics-cross-challenge-liverpool-2023
