Press Report: Cross-country Proves Popular
ACRESFIELD and Farndon celebrated double success stories at the latest round of the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
Aubrey and Caleb Newman, representing Acresfield, posted victories in the year three and year four races respectively at the event which attracted 163 finishers from 35 different schools.
Aubrey finished ahead of Fox Haarman (Christleton) and third-placed Jake Mylchreest, while Caleb posted victory ahead of Reeve Scadeng (Tarvin) and third-placed Zachary Senczyszyn (Dee Point).
Farndon pair Poppy Morait and Zara Evans grabbed glory in the year three and year four girls’ races respectively.
Poppy finished ahead of second-placed Poppy Tromans (Newton) and Alexandra Lewis (Upton) in third spot, while Zara finished ahead of Mollie Quinton (Farndon) in second place and Felicity Snowden (Kings) in third position.
Leon Bettridge (Hoole) won the year five boys’ race, just two seconds clear of runner-up Jacob Wilson (Willaston) with Scott Cornwell (Newton) in third spot.
Elsie Jones (Willaston) won the year five girls’ event ahead of runner up Poppy McKenna (Kings) and third-placed Marie-Ange Robson (Childer Thornton).
Tattenhall duo Nia Manson and Amelia Snowden finished first and second respectively in the year six girls’ race ahead of third-placed Rose Shepherd (Ashton Hayes).
Upton Heath pair Noah Booth and Evan Jones were first and second respectively in the year six boys’ race ahead of Sidney Carr (Acresfield).
Isobella Parkinson (Wade Deacon) won the year seven girls’ race ahead of Poppy Coates (West Kirby) and India Skyrme-Walker (Kings).
Oliver Dowell (Christleton) won the year seven boys’ race ahead of George Grimsditch (Neston) and third placed Jake Dowell (Christleton), while Sam Swan (Upton) won the year eight boys’ race.
SEVERAL West Cheshire AC members represented Cheshire Schools in the Dave Sunderland Cup Inter Counties Cross Country Match held at Himley Hall and Park, Dudley, West Midlands.
SISTERS Cosette and Satine Wearden travelled to Sheffield to represent West Cheshire AC in the Northern Indoor Open Meeting.
Cosette clocked 3:10.49 in her under 17 ladies’ 1,000m, and Satine posted 9.83 seconds in her under 13 girls’ 60m and hit 6.05m in the shot put.
JON PARK represented West Cheshire AC at the New York City Marathon and clocked two hours 54 minutes 26 seconds.
FIXTURES this weekend include the latest round of the North Wales Cross Country League for Seniors only on Saturday at Whitford, CH8 9AN, (1pm start for Women, 65+ Men, under 17 Men, and 2pm start for Senior Men), and the UK Cross Country Challenge Races at Sefton Park, Liverpool, on Sunday (10.45am start).
WEST CHESHIRE AC held its Annual General Meeting at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Trackside Room, on Friday night.
Mark Duffey (Chairman), Dennis Wall (Vice-Chairman), Julian Tegg (Secretary), Darren Shillington (Treasurer), Jane Pughe (Membership Secretary), Eddie Gore (Facilities Officer), Dennis Wall (Track and Field Officer), Ian Gloyne-Phillips (Road Running Officer), Dave Alexander (Cross Country Secretary), Leanne Wheeler and Anna Woolgar (Welfare Officers) were all re-elected.
