Press Report: Success all round for WCAC

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club achieved second spot at the latest round of the Northern Track and Field League.

The purple and gold-vested outfit produced a number of impressive performances during their hosted fixture held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village. Joseph Morrison, Jamie Richardson, Jac Goodall, Nathan Broomfield, Will Scott, Imogen Pughe, Liza Renondeau, Danielle Erskine and Sophie Percival all celebrated victories.

Morrison secured a double success story, clocking 1:55.3 in the 800m, and 10:16.1 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Richardson posted a winning time of 4:03.6 in the 1500m, while Nathan Broomfield (66.8) and Jac Goodall (65.8) made it a double success story in the 400m hurdles, and Scott launched the javelin to a mark of 39.48m to win the B event. Pughe stormed home to a new 400m personal best of 58.5 seconds, while Renondeau won the 3,000m in 10:50.9, Erskine achieved 4.79m for success in the B long jump, and Percival nailed 35.02m for victory in the javelin. And Jacob Clark anchored the 4x100m relay team of Liam Davoren, Matthew Webb and Victor Oyesola home to success.

Other valued West Cheshire AC team members included Matthew Bailey, Andy Parker, Fraser Campbell, Sammy Hollins, Paul Morrison, Adam Howe, Alan Littler, Dave McKay, Lauren Williams, Emma Holmes, Ruby Wisbey, Lucia Pyne, Kate Titlow, Jodi Bemand, Abigail Cartwright, Francesca Pughe, and Deb Erskine.

MATCH RESULT: 1 Blackburn Harriers & AC 506 points; 2 West Cheshire AC 411; 3 Preston Harriers 285; 4 Sale Harriers Manchester 266; 5 Wigan & District Harriers & AC 211.

STEVE FERNYHOUGH finished runner-up in the Chester Ultra 50 Miles Race alongside Danny Paddock. Just eight minutes separated first and second-placed runners with Fernyhough crossing the line in a time of seven hours 28 minutes 16 seconds.

ANGELA and Julian Tegg of West Cheshire AC have completed the Tour of Merseyside Series which comprised of running a total of 52 miles – the Southport Half Marathon, Thurstaston Multi-Terrain, Sustrans Cycle Trail, Raging Red Bull 5, Knowsley Cross-country, and Wirral Coastal Run.

GRAHAM WELLS (40:27) headed West Cheshire AC’s charge at the Robbie Webster Wobbler Race organised by Helsby Running Club, ahead of Steve Fernyhough (41:03), Keely Smith (44:19), Neil Field (50:32), Clare Mallon (53:15), Andy Carter (53:23), and Stephen Ball (57:26).

FIVE West Cheshire AC members have been selected to represent Cheshire at the English Schools Track and Field Championships on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at Sport City, Manchester. Carys Roberts (intermediate girls 800m), Lewis Parsons (Junior Boys 200m), Emily Owen (Junior Girls 100m), Kara Stoll (Junior Girls Hammer), and Harriet Wheeler (Junior Girls Javelin) are scheduled to feature at the event.

ENTRIES are now open for the Northern Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13 Track and Field Championships being held at the Costello Stadium, Hull, on August 14 and 15. The entry link is here.
