HELP AND SUPPORT IN LOCKDOWN

West Cheshire AC want to help you stay physically and mentally fit and safe in lockdown so that we can all come out the other side in the best possible shape.

Please remember that Dennis is only a phone call away if you need to chat on 07968 643038, and he’ll do his best to keep you informed and entertained by producing this weekly Club Newsletter.

But he needs you to let him know how you are getting on and what you are doing to keep yourself safe and to keep in good physical and mental condition, so please email me your ideas and suggestions to keep everyone in touch at: [email protected]

STAYING IN SHAPE…

Whether it’s for a specific sport or just general health and fitness it’s so important to build a strong core. This five-minute circuit with sprinter Adam Gemili is quick, simple and a great way to kick off your day. All you need is a yoga mat and your water/electrolytes!

NEW LOOK NORTHERN LEAGUE FOR 2021

The Club will compete in a new-look Northern Track and Field League next year.

We will feature in the West Premier Division alongside Blackburn Harriers, Preston Harriers, Sale Harriers, Team Isle of Man, and Wigan and District Harriers.

A decision to restructure the league was made at Saturday’s annual general meeting to ensure more regionalisation for the four rounds, plus an end of season grand final.

The original structure comprised of clubs competing against one another from the North West and east of the Pennines, but the new-look regionalised league has been designed to help prevent clubs from travelling long distances and to combat any future Covid-19 restrictions.

West Cheshire AC are provisionally scheduled to host round three on Sunday, July 11, while Blackburn will host the opening round on Saturday, May 22; Preston will play host for round two on Saturday, June 19, and Sale will be hosts for the final round at Sportcity, Manchester, on Sunday, August 1.

A grand final for the top two clubs in the West Premier Division will be held on Saturday, August 14.

UPDATED ONLINE ATHLETICS WEBINARS

In these unprecedented times, I wanted to draw the club’s attention to some of the great resources available online. England Athletics is expanding its campaign to support Athletics and Running for everyone @home, with a focus on β€˜Running @home’ support and advice. The homepage can be accessed here.

There are many webinars, interviews and tips from top coaches and athletes on how to stay conditioned and focused.

In addition, there are some fantastic videos for 4-11 year olds on the Funetics webpage put together in conjunction with England Athletics. The videos demonstrate parents and children (aged 4-11) taking part in FUN activities based on fundamental core movement skills: running, jumping and throwing. Funetics is a programme that has been designed to reflect the requirements of the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and 2. At this time when our children are currently schooling at home, we hope that these video activities will support the need for education to continue at home.  You can access the videos here.

The link to other updated webinars can be found here, here and here.
