Press Report: Guilden Sutton 10k Not On

THIS year’s Guilden Sutton 10k Road Race has been cancelled.

Event organisers, West Cheshire Athletic Club, decided to cancel the fixture because it clashes with the rearranged date for the Essar Chester Half Marathon on Sunday, September 20.

West Cheshire AC will now channel all it’s efforts to ensure the popular Essar Chester Half Marathon proves a big success by providing race officials and course marshals.

The 39th Chester Half Marathon was scheduled to be held on May 17, but organisers, Active Leisure Events Ltd, rearranged the date because of the Covid-19 crisis.

The Chester Half Marathon will offer one of the flattest routes in many years, with a spectacular city centre finish.

The race starts at Chester Racecourse, heading up Watergate Street, through the Walls and the historic centre of Chester. Runners will leave the city through the Garden Quarter before heading out into the countryside on Parkgate Road.

Just after Little Mollington Hall runners turn onto the roman road into the picturesque villages of Mollington and Lea by Backford. The route then continues up Parkgate Road and turns left to loop round part of Saughall village. Returning on Parkgate Road, passing Chester University and then into the finish via the Garden Quarter.

The finish in the City Centre outside the Town Hall and Cathedral provides an inspiring setting with cheering crowds of welcoming spectators.

Meanwhile, The 2020 Great Manchester 10 and Half Marathon scheduled to be held on September 6 after being rescheduled from May 22 has been cancelled.

Abergele Harriers has cancelled the 2020 Abergele 5 mile and 5k races, and the Snowdonia Marathon due to take place on October 24 has been postponed to October 30, 2021.
