Press report: Girls Fly Straight to Top Spot at Arrowe Park

JESSICA LARK, Aimee Phillips and Sophie Haslam delivered a team victory at Arrowe Park.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club under 13 girls trio combined to earn top spot at the latest round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League held at Birkenhead.

Lark (fifth in 15 minutes 38 seconds), Phillips (sixth in 15:41), and Haslam (ninth in 16:01) were backed up by Ruby Carlile (17:44) and Isabella Rimmer (17:52).

Ruby Phillips achieved third position in the under 11 girls race in a time of 9:12, while Thomas Rimmer clocked 9:18 for 15th spot in the under 11 boys race.

Jamie Richardson finished fourth with a time of 19:01 in the under 15 boys race, supported by Sammy Hollins (ninth in 20:22), and Henry Robinson (18th in 21:37) to acgieved fourth team position, alongside Charlie McMullan (23:59).

Sarah Kefford (26:13) and Henrietta Duffey (29:03) completed the under 15 girls event.

The over-45 women’s quartet of Ellie Robinson (44:33), Clare Mallon (47:08), Debra Bemand (49:00), and Angela Tegg (49:09) earned 11th spot in the Veteran Women’s team competition and 17th position in the senior women’s team event.

Steve Fernyhough posted 46:03 for 48th spot in the senior men’s event, backed up by club mates Andrew Clague, Mark Davies (50:57), Andy Carter (51:22), Richard Hayes (52:59), and Julian Tegg (59:43).

The next round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League takes place at Tatton Park, on Saturday, January 11, (12 noon start).

NEIL FINEGAN represented West Cheshire AC at Beacon Park, Skelmersdale, in the latest round of the Liverpool and District Cross Country League, and finished second over-45 man and 14th overall in 41:29.

The Liverpool and District Cross Country Championships will be held at Clarkes Garden, Liverpool, on Saturday, February 9, (11am start).

TOM CABLE represented West Cheshire AC at the Telford 10k Road Race and posted 38:30.

BETH McMAHON clocked a new under 20 women’s 300m personal best of 44.15 seconds at the Northern Indoor Open Meeting in Sheffield.

LUKE PARKER of West Cheshire AC represented Helsby High in the under 13 boys race at the English Schools Cross Country Cup Final and clocked 12:49 for the 3.05km course at Spinkhill.

JACOB CLARKE of West Cheshire AC posted two new under 17 men’s personal bests of 7.31 seconds (60m) and 38.24 (300m) at the Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting in Manchester.

Matthew Bailey clocked new under 17 men’s 60m hurdles (7.71) and 60m (8.94) pbs, and Fergus Garland posted a new under 15 boys 60m pb of 8.12 seconds and ran 40.89 seconds in the 300m.

Ruby Wisbey clocked a new under 15 girls 60m pb of 8.24 seconds alongside club mates Martha Willetts (1:49.54) and Megan White (1:54:06) who posted new under 15 girls 600m pbs.

Sara Pearson (9.22m) and Emma Powell (8.60m) achieved new under 15 girls shot put pbs, and Pearson long jumped 4.33m.

FIXTURES this weekend include the North Staffs Cross Country League at Rodbaston Campus, South Staffordshire College,  Penkridge, ST19 5PH, on Saturday (12 noon start), and a Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting at Manchester, on Sunday (10am start).

Forthcoming fixtures include the West Cheshire AC Fun Morning at Ellesmere Port Sports Village Sportshall, on Saturday, December 21 (10am start), and the Essar Chester Round The Walls Race on Boxing Day (10.30am start).
