Press Report: Wests Fourth in Wet Manchester

IMOGEN PUGHE kicked off her new track and field season with a grade one winning 300m time of 41.5 seconds. 

The West Cheshire Athletic Club member competed at the opening round of the Youth Development Under 13 and Under 15 Track and Field League.

Pughe was joined at SportCity, Manchester, in atrocious weather conditions by under 15 team mates Isla Shillington (35.85m) and Grace Scott (30.31m) who scored a double success story in the hammer, and Ruby Wisbey who won the B long jump (4.72m).

The quartet were supported by Lauren Williams, Stephanie Jones, Lara Battersby, Fatoumatta Bojang, Megan White, Freya Pattwell, Jodi Bemand, Sophie Grainger, Martha Willetts, and Charlotte Wilson.

Sara Pearson hit a winning put of 8.16m in the under 13 girls shot competition and Harriet Wheeler nailed a winning throw of 20.31m in the javelin.

The pair were backed up by under 13 team mates Jessica Brown, Emily Owen, Helen Tenner, Holly Bosworth, Aimee Phillips, Macy Brett, Sophie Haslam, Jessica Lark, and Cerys Rowlands.

Alex Rutherford won the under 13 boys long jump with 4.53m and was supported by Milo Halliday, Reece Munro, Luke Parker, Thomas Wilde, Oliver Wells, Tom Shillington, and Javier Arechaga.

Callum Stow-Povall won the B long jump with 4.43m and was backed up by the under 15 boys squad of Uzezi Onomerike, Sammy Hollins, Fergus Garland, Nathan Broomfield, Jamie Richardson, Dan Willetts, Henry Robinson, and Ted Williams. 

TEAM RESULT: 1 Sale Harriers Manchester 656.5 points; 2 Preston Harriers 591; 3 Wirral 578; 4 West Cheshire 473.5; 5 Liverpool Harriers 437; 6 Blackburn 424.5; 7 Stockport 402.

The next round will be held at Wavertree, Liverpool, on Saturday, May 18.

CARYS ROBERTS helped her North West team score success in the capital.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club member finished 16th in the London Mini Marathon and earned her region top spot in the under 13 girls team competition on The Mall.

JON PARK was the first of 11 West Cheshire AC finishers in the London Marathon.

Park clocked a new senior men’s club record time of two hours 44 minutes 53 seconds in the capital, ahead of Trevor Holmes (3:11:31), Tom Cable (3:13:12), Alex Staniforth (3:14:29), Wullie McGarrell (3:20:45), Heather McLintock (3:47:26), Amy Mills (3:59:56), Mark Gallagher (4:12:43), Iain Bullock (4:37:18),

Dave Bish clocked a new over-75 men’s club record time of 4:46:55, ahead of Katharine Harvey (5:31:47).

TOM BOOTH headed West Cheshire AC’s squad home at the final round of the Borders Road Running League held at Prestatyn.

Booth finished eighth, ahead of Jon Park (30th), Jac Goodall (35th), Mark Davies (39th), Dave Alexander (44th), Paul Morrison (45th), Andy Carter (46th), John Parlevliet (49th), Steve Fernyhough (62nd), Anthony Woodall (67th), Andrew Clague (75th), Rory Willson (78th), Keely Smith (101st), Eloise Eccles (134th), Ellie Robinson (145th), Dave Tiernan (169th), Clare Mallon (185th), Matthew Stanley (194th), Debra Bemand (200th), Cathryn Whalley (226th), Tony Kennedy (232nd), Kay Hayes (235th), Phil Howe (251st), Alex Duffey (257th), Mark Duffey (274th), Brian Beattie (281st), and Karen Waugh (282nd).

ETHAN ACKROYD clocked a new under 20 men’s West Cheshire AC record time and personal best of 15 minutes 45 seconds at Kingsley in the Mid Cheshire 5k Road Race, ahead of club mates Ethan Greenland (16:49), Rob Little (17:28), Andy Carter (17:35), Steve Fernyhough (17:52), Neil Hershaw (17:51), Richard Hayes (18:07), Danny Paddock (18:21), Clare Mallon (22:16), and Kay Hayes (23:42), 

JOSEPH MORRISON (16:20) and Sophie Grainger (19:17) both clocked personal best times at the Wirral Seaside 5k Race held at Leasowe, ahead of West Cheshire’s I\an Ackroyd (22:04), Jodi Bemand (24:04), and Pam Ackroyd (24:02).

STEVE FERNYHOUGH of West Cheshire AC completed the Chirk Triathlon in 59:02, ahead of club mate Hannah Moorhouse in 69:58.

ANTHONY SPRUCE represented West Cheshire AC in the Blackpool Festival Marathon Race and posted a chip time of 3:38:41, and Michael Young finished 10th in the Manchester to Liverpool 50 miles Road Race.

FIXTURES this weekend include the opening round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Deeside Stadium, Connahs Quay, on Saturday (11.45am start), and the opening round of the Youth Development Under 17 and Under 20 Track and Field League at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday (11.15am start).
