Press Report: Katie Breaks Record in USA

KATIE CLARKE has demonstrated record-breaking form in America.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club distance runner, who is studying at Atlanta, Georgia, clocked a new senior women’s 5,000m club record time of 17 minutes 43:62 seconds at the Georgia Tech Invitational Track Meeting.

Clarke smashed her previous best time for the distance of 18:07:57 which had been achieved at the Berry Field Day Invitational Meeting the week before.

Her latest performance has merited a qualification time for the National Championships and placed her 10th in the UK under 23 women’s age group 5,000m ranking lists. 

Clarke has been a West Cheshire AC member since 2012 and experienced her first American Collegiate race two years ago.

ELLIE ROBINSON secured success at the Rivington Pike Race.

The West Cheshire AC member clocked 26 minutes 22 seconds for top spot in her over-45 age group alongside Dave Alexander (second over 50 man in 21:49).

Other West Cheshire AC finishers included Jon Park (21:57), Andy Carter (26:21), and Joy Hickman (fourth over-50 lady in 31:17).

SARA PEARSON and Sophie Haslam tasted success while representing West Cheshire AC at the Trafford AC Bank Holiday Monday Track and Field Medal Meeting.

Pearson achieved 4.31m for victory in the under 13 girls long jump competition, clocked 20.19 seconds in her 150m, and hit 15.38m in the javelin.

Haslam won her under 13 girls 800m heat in 2:52.19, posted 11.5 seconds in her 75m, and long jumped 3.80m.

Sophie Grainger rounded the under 15 girls 1500m in 5:00.67, while Ruby Phillips posted 1;51.14 in her under 11 girls 600m, and 11.8 seconds in her 75m.

Jodi Bemand clocked 12.95 seconds in the under 15 girls 75m hurdles, posted 2:51.09 in her 800m, and hit 21.83m in the javelin. 

Aimee Phillips posted 2:46.85 in her under 13 girls 800m heat, Satine Wearden clocked 14.03 seconds in her 75m and long jumped 2.06m, and Casette Wearden rounded the under 13 girls 800m in 3:33.92. 

GEORGE HYDE of West Cheshire AC nailed a winning put of 16.42m in the under 20 men’s shot competition at the Liverpool Jumps and Throws Meeting.

Other West Cheshire AC members in action included Grace Scott who hit 28.52m in the under 15 girls hammer, and 16.36m in the discus, while Isla Shillington hit 31.45m in the under 15 girls hammer, 22.84m in the discus, and 8.13m in the shot, and Alan Littler cleared 1-70m in the senior men’s high jump. 

FIXTURES this weekend include the opening round of the Youth Development Under 13s and Under 15s Track and Field League at SportCity, Manchester on Saturday (11am start)

The Mid Cheshire 5k Road Race takes place at Kingsley on Friday (7.15pm), and the London Marathon is being held on Sunday (9am start).
