Press Report: PBs for Chris and Steve

CHRIS PALMER and Steve Fernyhough clocked personal best times at the Greater Manchester Marathon. Chris posted a chip time of two hours 55 minutes eight seconds ahead of five other club mates. Steve was next home for the purple-vested outfit, clocking 2:55:41, ahead of Richard Hayes who posted 3:09:29, Phil Woodley in a new personal best of 3:14:02, Trevor Holmes who clocked 3:25:22, and Danny Paddock who finished in 4:58:19.

OLIVER WELLS, Sophie Haslam, Ruby Wisbey and Stephanie Jones were medallists while representing West Cheshire AC at the Trafford AC Open Track and Field Meeting. Wells secured two silver medals from the under 13 boys 75m hurdles (15.51 seconds) and high jump (1.20m); while Haslam cleared 1-15m for a bronze medal in the under 13 girls high jump as well as finishing fifth overall in the 70m hurdles with 13.49 seconds, and she long jumped 3.62m.

BRADLEY SPURDENS of West Cheshire AC posted a winning time of 2:03 for victory in the senior men’s 800m at the Deeside AAC Open Meeting. Spurdens also clocked 53 seconds for second spot in the 400m, behind club mate Tom Roberts who posted 52 seconds, and in front of Alan Littler with 56 seconds.

Imogen Pughe celebrated success in the under 15 girls 200m, ahead of club mate Lauren Williams who secured third position. Kara Stoll won the under 13 girls discus, and Harriet Wheeler was second; Harriet also won the javelin, in a pb of 23.30m. Jessica Lark finished third in the under 13 girls one mile race, alongside other club mates including Ted Williams, Sharon and Kara Stoll, Macy Brett, and Martha Willetts.

ALEX STANIFORTH of West Cheshire AC rounded the Darwen Heritage Half Marathon in 1:37:47, and Sophie Smithdale posted 67 minutes in the St John Talbot’s School 10km Race at Whitchurch.

FIXTURES this weekend include the Liverpool Jumps and Throws Meeting at Wavertree on Saturday; the Macclesfield Harriers and AC Open Meeting on Saturday; the UK Sportshall Athletics Finals on Saturday and Sunday at SportCity, Manchester; the Mersey Tunnel 10k Road Race on Sunday; the Wirral AC Open Meeting on Sunday; and the Whitley 10k Road Race on Sunday.

ENTRIES are now being accepted for the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix Series of Races being held at Shotton on Thursday, June 6; Thursday, July 4; Thursday, August 1; and Friday, September 6.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will start their Northern Track and Field League Division One campaign at Witton Park, Blackburn, on Sunday, May 19, before travelling to Wigan for round two on Sunday, June 16, hosting round three at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday, July 2, and travelling to Wakefield for the final round on Saturday, August 10.

WEST CHESHIRE AC will host two rounds of this season’s Cheshire Track and Field League at Ellesmere Port Sports Village. The club will stage the second round fixture on Saturday, July 6, and the final round on Sunday, September 1, and will face away fixtures at Connah’s Quay, Deeside, on Saturday, May 4, and at Longford Park Stadium, Trafford, on Sunday, August 4.
