Press Report: Regional Successes for WCAC

EIGHT West Cheshire Athletic Club youngsters have contributed towards a North West Championship title.

Cerys Rowlands, Eleanor Neve, Freya Renshaw, Harriet Wheeler, Holly Bosworth, Jessica Brown, Kara Stoll, and Macy Brett combined alongside Bethany Hardy, Chloe Mason, Edith Nixon, Millie Egerton, and Ruby Baldwin to earn Cheshire Under 11s a regional sportshall athletics team triumph at Sportcity, Manchester.

Neve won the chest push (7.25m), Brown won the standing triple jump (6.23m), Bosworth and Rowlands were second and third in the target throw, Wheeler was second in the javelin (15m), Brett was third in the standing triple jump (5.76m), Renshaw was joint sixth in the speed bounce (50), and Stoll was eighth in the javelin (9m).

West Cheshire AC’s trio of Connor Davies-Jones (second in standing long jump with 2.27m), Leo Hewitt (fourth in shot put with 9.70m), and Ethan Gilgeours (fifth in vertical jump with 53) helped Cheshire under 13 boys finish runners-up.

The West Cheshire AC pair of Michael Maxwell and Uzezi Onomerike finished joint sixth in the under 15 boys all-round competition, just 12 points behind the eventual winner, and helped Cheshire finish runners-up in the team event.

West Cheshire AC’s Imogen Pughe (eighth), Fatoumatta Bojang (14th), and Sophie Cribb (18th) competed in the under 15 girls all-round competition and helped earn Cheshire third team position.

Eva Renshaw (first in the speed bounce with 80), Maddi Mercer (third in the standing triple jump with 6.33m), Sara Pearson (fifth in shot put with 7.27m), and Megan White (seventh in six lap), combined to earn Cheshire’s under 13 girls fourth team spot.

Javier Arechaga, Matthew Coombes, Matthew Smithdale, and Oliver Mallon teamed up for the Cheshire under 11 boys who finished fourth.

JAMIE RICHARDSON clocked a new West Cheshire AC under 15 boys 5km club record time of 17:09 for 11th spot at Birkenhead Park in the Northern 5km Road Race Championships.

He was backed up by Isaac Tait (22nd in 17:48) and Sammy Hollins (36th in 18:34) to secure sixth team position, ahead of team mates Fraser Campbell (44th in 19:20), and Joseph Hancock (48th in 19:36).

LUCIA PYNE posted 20:08 for 16th spot in the under 15 girls race, backed up by Freya Pattwell (32nd in 21:20) and Georgia Broomfield (36th in 21:31) to earn West Cheshire AC seventh team position.

Matthew Douglass clocked 18:34 for 37th spot in the under 17 men’s 5km race.

KEELY SMITH (32:08), Kerry Riley (16:19), Ellie Robinson (16:01), Claire Harris (32:26), Heather McLintock (15:57), and Claire Williams (17:10) secured West Cheshire AC 20th spot in the 55-strong North West Women’s Six-Stage Road Relay Championships.

TOM BOOTH (26:51), Andrew Clague (14:53), Andy Carter (29:18), Neil Hershaw (13:47), Steve Fernyhough (28:30), Ian Gloyne-Phillips (14:16), Mark Davies (28:57), Bradley Spurdens (12:52), Ethan Ackroyd (12:18), Joseph Morrison (12:34), Jac Goodall (13:11), and Rory Willson (14:18) earned West Cheshire AC 35th spot in the 65-strong North West Men’s 12-Stage Road Relay Championships.  

ANDY PARKER of West Cheshire AC clocked 52.56 seconds while representing Great Britain at Torun, in Poland, at the World Masters Track and Field Championships.

SION ROBERTS of West Cheshire AC was first under 20 man and 21st overall with a new under 17 and under 20 club age group 10k record time of 33 minutes 12 seconds at the Cheshire 10k Road Race held at Arley Hall.

Luke Ellis (1:26:25), Steve Hillier (1:32:04), and Tom Cable (2:27:08) represented West Cheshire AC at the Wilmslow Half Marathon.

FIXTURES this weekend include the latest round of the Borders Road Running League on Sunday (11am start), hosted by Buckley Runners on an accurately measured five miles course in the Hope/Kinnerton area. The start is on Rhos Estyn Lane, off Kinnerton Road, and the finish will be on Lower Mountain Road near its junction with Kinnerton Road.
