Press Report: Eleven Represent County

CARYS ROBERTS produced a top-20 finish at Loughborough in the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships.

The youngster was one of 11 West Cheshire Athletic Club youngsters who represented Cheshire over an undulating Prestwold Hall course. Roberts. who finished runner-up at the Northern Championships in Pontefract in January, posted 13 minutes 23 seconds to finish 19th in the under 13 girls 3km race at Loughborough which featured 307 finishers.

Roberts was first home for her Cheshire team and is now focusing her sights on this Saturday’s English Schools Cross Country Championships at Temple Newsam, Leeds.

Her brother, Sion, clocked 20:18 for 64th spot in the under 17 mens 6km race, while Jamie Richardson covered the under 15 boys 4km course in 14:20 for 65th position. Ethan Greenland (78th in 32:38), Rory Willson (152nd in 35:50) and Jac Goodall (168th in 37:07), completed the 8km under 20 men’s race. Sophie Grainger posted 15:58 for 79th position in the 4km under 15 girls race, while Issy Clarke (81st in 25:31) and Beth McMahon (145th in 29:47) completed the 6km under 20 women’s race. Luke Parker (224th in 14:18) completed the 3km under 13 boys event, and Lily Moorhouse achieved 25:49 for 242nd spot in the 5km under 17 women’s race.

STEVE FERNYHOUGH was the first of 28 West Cheshire AC finishers at the Aldi Chester 10k Road Race, posting a new personal best of 36:06 for sixth place in his over-35 age group.

He was joined at the event by club mates Neil Hershaw (38:07), Danny Paddock (38:12), Michael Young (38:54), Ian Gloyne-Phillips (39:42), Tony Woodall (39:46), David Irving (41:28), Anthony Spruce (41:28), Keely Smith (41:47), and Nick Duffy (41:51). Robert Boggild (42:36), Claire Harris (42:09), Dominic Walster (45:31), Ian Ackroyd (45:58), Clare Mallon (new pb of 46:26), Stephen Ball (47:21), Debra Bemand (48:28), Mark Gallagher (48:10), Paul Wood (49:37), Louise Moore (50:00), Sharon Dodd (52:45), Sarah Hibbert (53:09), Claire Bennette (52:53), Michael Dennis (53:53), Claire Gloyne-Phillips (55:34), Sarah Hughes (56:20), Karen Waugh (61:08), and Paula Newman (56:56).

STEPHANIE JONES of West Cheshire AC clocked a winning time of 8.38 seconds in her under 15 girls 60m heat and long-jumped 5.11m at the Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting. Team mate Jodi Bemand clocked a winning time of 10.13 seconds in her heat of the under 15 girls 60m hurdles, while Gabriel Mikoleizik posted 7.69 seconds in his under 15 boys 60m heat. Joseph Morrison rounded the under 20 men’s 600m in 1:23:96, and Alan Littler cleared 1-65m in the senior men’s high jump.

TOM CABLE of West Cheshire AC clocked 1:27:25 at the Liverpool Half Marathon ahead of club mates Danny Watling (1:46:59), and Mark Povey (2:08:09).

ELLIE ROBINSON, Stuart Thomas and Jim Jones represented West Cheshire AC at the Pipe Dream Fell Race at Dolgarrog on Saturday.

FIXTURES this week include the Chester Primary Schools Cross Country Races at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Friday (4pm start), and the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Leeds on Saturday. The Wrexham Marathon and 20 miles races take place on Sunday (9am start), and the Wrexham Half Marathon on the same day starts at 10.30am.
