WCAC hold their own at home

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club`s seniors produced a battling display in their penultimate Division One home match of the season.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based squad secured third position at the third round of the Northern Track and Field League.

Shona Valentine, who will miss the final round due to her marriage, demonstrated the team’s fighting spirit with a memorable run in her leg of the 4x400m relay by overtaking two rivals to secure the squad of Beth McMahon, Alice Jennings and Danielle Erskine second spot in 2:18.0.

Valentine had contributed only seconds earlier towards a team victory in the 4x100m relay alongside Alice McMahon, Georgia Barlow and Erskine who clocked 49.3 seconds.

Jennings added 68 seconds in the 400m hurdles, 16.8 seconds in the 100m hurdles, 1.50m in the high jump, 63.5 seconds in the B 400m, and 9.83m in the B triple jump, and was backed up by Erskine’s 5.08m long jump, 9.98m triple jump, 77.3 seconds in the B 400m hurdles, 17.6 seconds in the B 100m hurdles, and 22.17m in the B javelin.

Alice McMahon (12.6 in 100m and 25.5 in 200m) joined forces in the short sprints with Georgia Barlow (12.8 in B 100m and 26.5 in B 200m), while Issy Clarke (2:27.7 in 800m), Beth McMahon (2:33.8 in B 800m), Ellie Robinson (1500m), Lisa Davies (B 1500m), Joanne Lacking (3000m), and Anest Muller (B 3000m) contributed points from the middle distance and endurance races.
Emily Ball spun the discus to a winning distance of 37.49m and added valuable points from the javelin (26.12m and shot (11.47m), alongside Georgina Moulton (16.36m in B discus, and 5.54m in B shot).

Alice Barnsley (4.21m in B long jump) and Debra Erskine (24.37 in the hammer) completed the purple-vested female contingent.

Team manager Dave McKay led by example with a winning throw of 56.38m in the javelin, 11.65m in shot, 19.3 in 110m hurdles, 45.83m in hammer, 31.48m in discus, 9.84m in B triple jump, and 1-55m in the B high jump).

Newly crowned North West Schools decathlon champion James McMahon contributed 6.46m in the long jump, 3-50m in the pole vault, 30.44m in the B discus, and 9.10m in the B shot.

Alan Littler (1.65m in high jump, 16.15m in B hammer, and 22.79m in the B javelin) was supported by Mark Hearn (11.8 in 100m and 51.4 in 400m), Josh Ford (24.8 in 200m, and 5.10m in B long jump).

Richard Farley (2:00.9 in 800m and 10.83m in triple jump), Joseph Morrison (2:09.5 in B 800m), Ethan Greenland (1500m), Mark Davies (3,000m steeplechase and B 1500m), Andy Carter (5,000m and B 3000m steeplechase), and Dave Alexander (5,000m) posted middle distance and endurance running points.

Zac Barnsley (12.0 in B 100m), Liam Davoren (25.5 in B 200m), and Alex Kearns (55.3 in B 400m) accounted for West Cheshire`s other importance point-scoring performances.

MATCH RESULT: 1 Preston 390 points; 2 Wakefield 377; 3 West Cheshire 346; 4 Kingston Upon Hull 328; 5 City of Sheffield 316; 6 Blackburn 288.

SIX West Cheshire AC members will be representing Cheshire at this Friday and Saturday`s English Schools Track and Field Championships being held at Gateshead.

George Hyde, Matthew Pagan, Emma Howe, Isobel Griffin Morris, and Evie and Maisie Tipping will line-up for their county, while Ewan Bradley and Ethan Milligan have been named as reserves.

CHESHIRE celebrated a 243-201 points success in their annual Year Seven Track and Field Match against Merseyside on Monday night at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village Track.

FIXTURES for this season`s North Staffs Cross Country League series have been released.

Round One, on Saturday, October 1, will be held at Knights Grange, Winsford, and the second round will be staged at Park Hall Country Park, on Saturday, October 29; while round three is at Keele University on Saturday, November 19; and the final round is at Stafford Common on Saturday, December 17.

FIXTURES this weekend for West Cheshire AC include the third round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Warrington`s Victoria Park on Sunday (12 noon start).
