WCAC Win at Witton

WEST CHESHIRE Athletic Club have taken another big step towards promotion.

The Ellesmere Port Sports Village-based outfit`s under 17 and under 20 squad secured a team success at the second round of the Youth Development Track and Field League held at Blackburn`s Witton Park.

Maisie Tipping, Emma Howe, Lauren Dimbylow and Alice Barnsley combined to celebrate victory in the under 17 womens 4x100m relay.

Tipping grabbed glory with a new 300m hurdles personal best before adding valuable points from the 200m and 300m, alongside Howe who delivered success in the javelin, Dimbylow who won the 80m hurdles and high jump, Keane Harrison who won the B javelin and B 300m, and Beth McMahon.

Georgia Barlow continued her impressive form on the back of a double success at the Cheshire Championships by winning the under 20 womens 100m at Blackburn.

She was backed up by Georgina Moulton who won the discus, and by Katie Clarke who secured success in both the 3000m and in her 1500m steeplechase debut.

George Hyde powered his way to victory in the under 17 mens shot put alongside B winner and team mate Will Rattray.

Ethan Milligan catapulted his way to top spot in the high jump alongside B winner Franklin Onomerike.

David Dentith celebrated success in the B 400m, while Christy Mageean finished second in the 800m, and the other important under 17 points scorers included Ewan Brandon, Jake Gibson, Alex Mason, Harri Britton, Josh Ford, Rory Willson, and Ethan Greenland.

Mageean teamed up with Brandon, Dentith and Gibson for victory in the 4x100m relay.

Zac Barnsley and James McMahon wrapped up West Cheshire`s impressive performance by contributing valuable points in the under 20 men’s events.

ABI PAWLETT of West Cheshire AC clocked a new under 15 girls 75m hurdles personal best of 11.92 seconds at Trafford’s Bank Holiday Monday Meeting to better her previous best time of 12.18, and long jumped 4.89m.

PAM ACKROYD of West Cheshire AC celebrated a huge new personal best time at the Birkenhead Park 5km parkrun. Ackroyd, who has been training hard with West Cheshire AC members at Thursday evening sessions on the Ellesmere Port Sports Village track, posted 24 minutes 37 seconds which improved her previous best by 77 seconds.

Her son, Ethan, also clocked a new personal best time of 16:59 at Birkenhead Park to finish fourth overall and first in his age category.

ANEST MULLER was the first lady finisher at the Ellesmere Port 5k parkrun. The West Cheshire AC race ace posted 20 minutes 46 seconds, ahead of team mates Rob Freeman (10th in 21:18), Liam Farrell (11th in 21:26), Imogen Pughe (second lady in 21:42), Vince Hodges (15th in 22:24), Clare Mallon (third lady in 23:19), Rosemary Rogers (sixth lady in 24:22), Peter Smith (36th in 24:24), Harvey Tegg (37th in 24:29), Paul Morrison (40th in 24:55), and Dave Hough (55th in 27:41).

CHRISTLETON, The Queen’s School, and Neston all secured success at the West Cheshire AC Schools Track and Field Cup competition.

Christleton won the combined boys and girls competition with 186 points, ahead of Neston with 162 points and third-placed Whitby with 144 points.

Queen`s School won the girls event with 127 points, ahead of Christleton with 113, and Whitby with 85.

And Neston won the boys competition with 85 points, ahead of runners-up Christleton on 73, and third-placed Ellesmere Port Catholic High with 68.

THE first round of the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix will be held on Thursday, (June 2), from Tata Sports and Social Club, Shotton (7.30pm start).

Other rounds are scheduled to take place at the same venue on Thursday, July 7 (7.30pm), Thursday, August 4, (7.30pm), and Friday, September 2 (7pm).

WEST CHESHIRE AC fixtures this weekend include the second round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Longford Park Stadium, Trafford, on Saturday (11.30am start), and the second round of the Northern Seniors Track and Field League at Woodburn Road Stadium, Sheffield (11.30am start).

Forthcoming fixtures include the Birkenhead Park Five Miles Road Race on Wednesday, June 8, (7.30pm), preceded at 7pm by a young athletes race.
