Schools Cross-country; Bronze for Ewan

ELEANOR WILLIAMS secured success at the penultimate round of the West Cheshire Athletic Club Schools Cross Country Race Series.

The Kings School youngster posted a time of three minutes 26 seconds to win the year three race at Ellesmere Port Sports Village and was one of 256 pupils taking part in the fixture.

Williams finished just four seconds clear of runner-up Ella Hims (Childer Thornton), and Cerys Rowlands (Woodlands) who was third in 3:40.

Joseph Ireland of Mill View clocked 3:27 for success in the year three boys race, ahead of Henry Jones (St Lukes) in second spot with 3:35, and third-placed Jack Ross (St Lukes) in 3:36.

Sara Pearson (Frodsham Manor House) posted 3:38 to win the year four girls race, just one second clear of runner up Isabella Rimmer (Overleigh St Marys), and Jessica Lark (Upton Heath) was third in 3:43.

Reece Munro of Eccleston won the year four boys race in 3:06, while Ben Grantham (Bishop Wilson) was second in 3:15, and Ryan Bagley (Helsby Hillside) achieved third spot in 3:17.

Carys Roberts (Tarporley) posted a winning time of 5:46 in the year five girls race to beat second-placed Jessica Hennessey (Newton) who clocked 6:01, and third-placed Georgina Duffey (Childer Thornton) in 6:25.

Zak Dean from Helsby Hillside won the year five boys race in 5:23, while Finn Thomson (Kings) finished second in 5:33, and Fergus Garland (Childer Thornton) was third in 5:41.

Holly Weedall, from Cuddington, won the year six girls race in 5:14, ahead of Childer Thornton duo Imogen Pughe (5:46) and Lara Battersby (5:47) who finished second and third respectively.

William Sutcliffe, from Mill View, won the year six boys race in 5:15, ahead of Ted Bolton (Christleton) who was second in 5:25, and third-placed Henry Robinson (Waverton) in 5:33.

John Gornall (8:25) and Matthew Holtom (8:30), both from Upton High, finished first and second respectively in the year seven boys race, ahead of Dylan Bugg (Tarporley) who was third in 8:45.

Charlotte Walker (Tarporley) won the year eight girls race in 13:17, ahead of runner-up Mimi Jayaram (Abbeygate) who was second in 14:42, and third-placed Emily Page (Christleton) in 15:26.

Harvey Tegg (Wirral Grammar) won the year eight boys race in 11:42, ahead of second-placed Charlie Clarke (Tarporley) in 12:37, and Liam Farrell (Neston) in third spot with 12:45.

EWAN BRADLEY catapulted himself to a medal at the Northern Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The West Cheshire AC member cleared 2-60m for third place in the under 15 boys pole vault held at the English Institute of Sport Arena in Sheffield.

Bradley was joined at the event by club mates Emily Misantoni, Abi Pawlett, and Jacob Simmonds.

Misantoni clocked a new under 15 girls 800m record time of two minutes 24.01 seconds for third place in her heat and cleared 1-40m in the high jump. Pawlett hit 9.17m in the under 15 girls shot put, clocked 9.42 seconds in the 60m, and posted 8.42 seconds in the 60m hurdles, while Simmonds clocked 25.55 seconds in the under 15 boys 200m semi-finals.

MARK DAVIES was the first of six West Cheshire AC team counters to complete the Liverpool and District Cross Country Championships race.

Davies posted 41 minutes 59 seconds for 48th place at Clarke Gardens, Allerton, ahead of Andrew Clague (50th in 42:10), John Parleviet (60th in 43:22), Dave Tiernan (78th in 45:09), Andrew Carter (79th in 45:11), and Bob Benson (80th in 45:19) to secure West Cheshire AC eighth team position.

ROSEMARY ROGERS secured second spot in her over-65 lady category with a time of 56 minutes one second at the Nick Beer 10k Road Race which included a testing climb around the Great Orme at Llandudno.

LUCIA PYNE finished third in the year seven girls race at Arrowe Park, Birkenhead in the Merseyside Schools Cross Country Championships ahead of West Cheshire AC club mate Abigail Cartwright who was 39th.
