Zack Holland medalled for Great Britain on his international debut.The 15-year-old West Cheshire Athletic Club member contributed to a team gold medal for Great Britain at the World Biathle Championships held in Cyprus.
Holland, who attends Bishop Heber High School, finished as the third fastest British athlete at the event which featured a 1,000m run, a 200m swim, and then another 1,000m run to finish just 22 seconds behind the winner and clinch Great Britain top spot, ahead of runners-up Egypt.
Holland had qualified for the final by finishing fourth in a time of 10 minutes 12 seconds in his heat, and he clocked 9:46 in the final to finish just outside his personal best.
His proud father, Ian, watched Zack presented with his team gold medal on the podium where the team stood to hear the national anthem.
Holland is planning to compete in this Sundays North West Biathlon Championships which features a 1600m run and 200m swim, hoping to qualify for the National Individual Finals at the end of November, which leads to the National Schools Championships at the end of March.
