Olivia Celebrates North of England Title

Olivia Montez-Brown celebrates a North of England Championship title.
The West Cheshire AC multi-eventer secured the under 17 women’s long jump gold medal at the Northern Track and Field Championship staged at Hull’s Costello Stadium.

Montez-Brown, 16, who attends Ellesmere Port Catholic High School, delivered a new personal best leap of 5.59m to clinch her title victory after finishing 28 centimeters clear of runner-up, Laura Pegler (Dash AC).

She also claimed a silver medal from the 80m hurdles final at Hull, clocking 11.93 seconds to finishing just 1/100th of a second behind eventual winner, Alyssia Carr (Sale Harriers).

Montez-Brown has enjoyed a memorable year to date after clinching the Northern Indoor long jump and sprint hurdles titles at Sheffield in February; and Cheshire County AA long jump and sprint hurdles gold medals at Warrington in May.

The Great Sutton-based teenager was also crowned North West Schools heptathlon champion at Crewe earlier this month when she compiled a new personal best 4,337 points in the intermediate girls competition.

She clocked 11.6 seconds in the 80m hurdles, cleared 1-48m in the high jump, hit 9.21m in the shot, posted 26.8 seconds in the 200m, long jumped 5.47m, and launched the javelin to a mark of 26.49m.

West Cheshire AC were also represented at Hull by Danielle Erskine who finished sixth in the under 20 women’s long jump with 5.18m; and by Jenni Potter who finished seventh in the hammer with 25.34m.

Former West Cheshire AC member, Amy Williams, continued her superb season by securing the under 15 girls long jump title with 5.46m, while Tessa McCormick clocked 4:49.02 for fifth spot in the under 20 women’s 1500m final.

James McMahon won the North West Schools\\\\\\\’ Junior boys pentathlon title at Crewe with 2,446 points after clocking 12.3 seconds in the 80m hurdles, hitting 10.14m in the shot, long jumping 5.81m, clearing 1-57m in the high jump, and posting 2:30.5 for the 800m.
