John Driscoll appointed president of Northern Athletics

John Driscoll has been appointed Northern Athletics’ new president.The highly-respected Little Sutton-based West Cheshire AC official has taken over the role at Northern Athletics from Malcolm Fletcher.
John, who is a vice-president at West Cheshire AC, played an instrumental role in securing lottery funding for the athletics facilities now based at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port.
He was part of the Northern Counties Athletics Association from 1985 and became chairman of the Northern England Road Running Committee in 1987, which changed it’s name to North of England Athletics Association in 1992, and then to Northern Athletics in 2006.
John, who has established a road running handicap scoring system for Cheshire, is a qualified road, cross country and track and field official, and he played a leading role in the formation of the popular Borders Road Running League Series of races.
West Cheshire AC chairman, Dennis Wall, admitted he was delighted to hear of John’s appointment.
He said: “Everyone at West Cheshire AC conveys their best wishes and congratulations to John who richly deserves the recognition from Northern Athletics.
“John has played a major role in the success of all spheres of athletics and he is a valued member and official at various events the club stages throughout the year.”
John was installed as the president of Northern Athletics at a ceremony which took place at Longford Park Stadium, Trafford.
