Dave Alexander has represented England at the 9th World Masters Mountain Running Championships. The West Cheshire AC international distance-running ace was the first over-40 man home for England at the Uphill Race staged at Zagreb, in Croatia.
Dave, who finished sixth in his age group category, posted a time of 44 minutes 12 seconds for the 8.5km course which started 250m above sea level on the border between the city of Zagreb and neighbouring mountain Slijeme, and finished just above the peak of the mountain.
The runners started the race on an asphalted road and after half a kilometre they left the road and followed an undulating trail that eventually took them to the finish 850m higher.
Dave finished just over four minutes behind eventual age group winner, Davide Milesi, from Italy, but he finished clear of other British competitors Paul Dugdale (eighth in 45:30), Roger Taylor (18th in 49:37), William Garner (26th in 52:20), and Mark Birbeck (39th in 61:08).
